im from nepal and didn't believe in god till 2 years ago cause i grew up in hong kong. i visited nepal 2 years ago and stayed there for two years and saw heard and experienced things that were more than the ordinary. now it maybe that it was because of the environment or i just want to believe that i was protected by a higher being than myself, i now believe in god, also what i do think is that environment plays a big role so yea im a believer and if someone doesn't believe i respect that as wel
I'm a vajrayana buddhist. I believe what I believe because it has a much more plausible theory of existence than others. It's more logical to say that all gods are just spirits looking for attention than to say some random desert spirit is omnipotent. Now, I'm not sure why I believe there is a path to ultimate happiness, but the practice that is said to lead to it itself seems to be working. Reincarnation is totally faith.
Quite ironic you should pick a teacup for example. Russle's teacup is a production of an atheist philosopher and is primarely used to ieentify religion with a belief suppurted by other people believing in it. But it is interesting to see others react to this, with their perspective on life. Btw please make more ogfurious videos, thye're great.
Why doesn't anyone follow the sumerian gods anymore? Shouldn't they have more rights to followers than these new gods? I guess my point here is that I believe religion is nothing more than a product of culture. Therefore I can not believe in a deity that was man made.
i'm a muslim i just wanna say that allah created the world without humans and when he created the humans he just wanted them to build the world and believe in him , the funny thing is that allah don't need us but we need allah and allah is forgiving so allah comes to the 1st sky and he waits for people and he hears there problem
if you want logic there is some that god does exist.1) they recently found pieces of an arc in egypt how did it get there? (noah's arc perhaps)? and everything in the bible, and that was documented like red rivers of blood flowing, water opening at this sides for moses. This is all scientifically possible but people would rather believe it happend by luck which is their choice. I personally believe in a higher power.
And i meant that it's not statistically possible for the world to work how it does on its own account. Protons and neutrons and electrons cannot think.. So if you are made of these, then how can you think?
Well I've had the same question, as most people have. But lets talk atoms... If an atom is made of protons, neutrons, and electrons, how do they form together to make different compounds? It's not statistically possible for the world to work in the way it does. Without a God, or at least a SOMETHING, how could that blob of protons and neutrons and electons work together in the way that they do? Maybe there needs to be further research, but its something to think about.
@edgex300 And proof? I believe that every thing that exsists is proof of a creator. You would have to be very closed minded and ignorant to not even cosider the possibility of a creator. And once you believe in a creator then it only makes sense that that creator will want order in his creation. There for instilling in us morrals and a conscience.
@edgex300 What is the point in any human being even being around if all we have to live for is what we can get here and now?? What keeps people from being murderers and rapists or knowing that its wrong? If all we have to live for is how much money we can make than why not all just revert to animalistic behaviour because, after all, its all about number one.
I believe in what I do because it makes the most sense to me. It isnt something that can be understood unless you belive it for yourself.
all this christian say is. just fave faith other wise you will go to hell. dont use your brain just be a lamb and lisen to other people because you are a siner and deserve to burn in hell. that, not an answer to his question that is just telling us that you dont want to face reality because you cant handle the truth and dont have to balls to stay away from all the retarded people in your life that keep you from evolving and feeling alive. be honest to your self that's that is the first step
Religion may be seen as a necessary coping method for crisis situations, having someone to turn to in the most desperate circumstances which is why religion is most prominent in areas ravaged by poverty. Religion in economically well developed places which is practised by people who are not depressed and suffer from no injustices may just be the residual effects of being taught the religion generation to generation form when it was a more essential for survival
so forth. Many pastors I know have changed by the touch of God's mercy. Look up John Head Welch's testimony of how he has changed. I have seen live shows of people being healed by God's mercy. Suppose this is not the work of God. Then where is this power coming from?
Because Christianity is nothing but a religion, a set of laws, until you have a relationship with God. And by relationship, I mean a relationship of true love. He wants a relationship where you are being raw with Him, where He can be your friend and also a king. And what makes Him not a myth or just an idea? It is evident in the way people change, and miracles. There has been many testimonies of people being healed from chronic illnesses, and how people have been healed of their past and...
@WHOAitssusan The reason I'm not a Christian is because people always talk about "miracles" about how the "all knowing" God will save individual lives but not the millions of starving people in third world countries around the world or the people caught in natural disasters. And if he is "all knowing" and "all powerful" then why doesn't he just stop the disasters in the first place? I'm sorry but there are too many holes in Christianity and it's claims for a logical person to believe them.
@TomoHawKzZ This is a complex question but a good one. I honestly do not know the reason as to why He doesn't do anything, He does it for His purpose. Think of it like this: You see a piece of puzzle piece and ask yourself, "what is this supposed to be? What picture is this supposed to make?" But as time passes, you start seeing more of the puzzle pieces and start seeing the bigger picture. Same thing for the way God works. He works in the most mysterious and unexpected ways and ....
@WHOAitssusan the only reason why the puzzle appears easier to understand if because you want to believe in it there fore you become more open to ridicules ideas that have been destroyed and manipulated into making you a lamb or a follower of someone elses thoughts. religion started as a scam that worked really well and like any other culture it stayed around taking hold of peoples fears insecurities manipulating their lives. imagine if you could just be free and do as you like
@Tepicoelano2 I am not here to convert anyone into being a Christian so I'm not going to go in depth of anything, but I do want to say that God has helped me overcome so many things. Sure, I still have many things to overcome, but I am a mere human. I was introduced to horror movies at the age of 5 and have been traumatized ever since. I wasn't able to be by myself. It was so bad to the point I stayed up almost all night or I had to be around people at all times. I accepted God..
@Tepicoelano2 at the age of nine and somehow, all these fears that have entrapped me for so long disappeared. Before, I had the hardest time taking a shower because I had no choice but to be alone. However, after accepting God, I was now able to take showers without the fear and all I could do was thank God. And also you can find documentaries of how people have changed due to God on youtube. How were they able to deviate completely from their previous ways if it weren't for God?
@WHOAitssusan as long as you are ok now who cares about the past. if you are still being affect it by it then it is probably something in you physiology and with that you might think you cant change who you are there fore you remain in suffering. why would you have faith on something that serves no grater good. i think finding spirituality with in your self actually has benefits because you become more focused on your own life and follow the path of love leading you to happiness
(contd) significant factor of suffering in this world. I would be interested to know what your opinion of this is? I am currently working on a statistics project mapping different religions against crime rates, poverty rates, underage pregnancy rates etc etc but it's taking a while because I like my sources to be reliable for fairness. If I finish it any time soon then I might send the results to you to hear your opinion.
I believe in Christianity. This is due to the fact that atoms, the periodic table/ the coincidences, and the rotation conservation theory is so difficult to explain why they are what they are i believe that god has some influence on the thing that does this. Also, Christianity has only one God, a religious book that talks about the beginning and the end, and finally treats all as equal and forgives all. (I have not researched other religious indepth but this is to my current knowledge)
(contd) These are both religiously motivated attacks. Also look at homophobia across the world. Most of this is caused by religion and religious beliefs. Then you look at the middle east. There is a clear correlation between the percentage of religious people and poverty/ crime rates. This doesn't necessarily represent cause and effect but there is a clear pattern of this across the board in many different countries and there is a lot of other evidence of religion being a (contd)
I enjoyed watching this video quite a lot (ok loads because you were in it); although it was particularly interesting as I am what you might call a militant atheist or a neo atheist. My reasoning is as follows:
1) There is no god ( this is my belief and I've seen no evidence pointing in the other direction)
2) Religion is a significant cause of suffering on this planet. Take 9/11 or the attacks on the Japanese underground in tokyo. (cont)
my whole family was baptized as christian and even i was growing up, they all attend church except me. so even if i was i was raised to be religious, i'm not at all.
All this can't be a result of chance or mutation. forget about life and molecules. The relative position of earth to its neighboring planets and the sun. how every planet is bombarded with mammoth meteorites and solar radiation, plasmas and what not. Out of the million species on earth how come only man is capable of intellectual thinking and stuff? There must be a grand master controlling all this...
If you believed in God, how would your ideal god be?
and breath.. the concept of god and the concept of science is build from the same source (im not going to specify because it took me ages to research this), god is science, science is god = god(energy) is life. oh btw one guy was way ahead of us and to mock the idots he just putt in an equation E=MC2. next question
personally when you look at DNA you might notice that it has a certain set of instructions, they can be modified but nobody has ever really seen a case where the gene changes completely, a moth turning from white to brown is just a slight alteration of the code already in the moth. to grow a new leg the code would have to change completely and we while we have seen mutations the problem usually fixes itself in the next generation. evolutionists have repeatably changed their positions.
christians muslims and jewish people belief in the same god but they do not all belief that jesus was the son of god ( correct me if im wrong ) so i think there must be some kind of truth in the whole story. i was raised religious but started to get my doubts still praying every now and then that wont hurt any1 =P
random shit:
have you ever played assasins creed brother hood? some people serious belief in that alien theory it would explain alot XD
@samelf07 OMG, we needed to believe in god to not kill each other? Most terrors think they can do whatever, just because they will get to heaven, otherwise everything is okay to do when you can say that you have god on your on side! like Israel, " it was the jewish peoples counry 2 fucking thousands of years ago as said in the bible so they could send all the Israelic people out of the country. I don't think religion have helped the peace :S
why i believe in Allah? one example, so long ago Allah described in the Holy Qoran some things that science has found just recently, like the development of embryo. and thats just one example (sorry my bad english)
Allah is the same God as the ones that the Jews, and Christians believe in. Allah is God in arabic. Its the same thing if you were to say God in a different language such as French.
@dafadil101 You are correct. Abraham (11th descent of Noah) was the father of Ishamel (started Islam) and Isaac (started Judaism). Same God. Ishamel was the son of his handmaid because Abraham's wife was infertile, then God decides to make his wife fertile and Isaac is born. Troll God is troll.
@dafadil101 I beg to differ, Muslims believe in an entire different entity... Allah doesn't beget nor he is begotten (My belief and as its stated in our book) God of christianity bore a son. Allah doesn't need to fly in a chariot or ask people to kill for no reason. He is all knowing and is closer to us then our own jugular vein (again my belief) Allah is not santa, or someone you can imagine.. He is visible and yet invisible. And he doesn't make basic scientific mistakes.
@fuadjalil No muslims believe in the same God as the Jews and the Christians. They are even mentioned in the Quran and have the same base stories as the J&C. The only difference is that the muslims believe that Jesus never died because God took him off the Earth and replaced him with a look alike, because Jesus will come back on Judgment Day. God or as you think "Allah" which again is God in arabic never told any person to kill. Killing is the biggest sin in islam.
Religion causes more harm than good, history has proven so and even now religion is wreaking havoc on the world and our species. Beliefs without evidence shouldn't be respected (free speech is important though) but the so called "militant" atheists have only gotten into debates, made ad campaigns, satirized religion and sold books i dont see why you would disagree and call them militant as if the're like militant Islamists, Hindus or Christians that actually kill people and blow shit up.
I love the people that have commented under me, they're not all anti-social douchebags, that rage behind their computer they just use logic and reasoning, good job youtube peeps. :)
Many of the prophecies that are mentioned in the Christian bible have come true and continue to come true.Getting both sides of an argument that has infinitely many sides is reasonably an idea that is not even remotely new. We,as people, are only living up to only one expectation to become painless,in a sense immortal. From this you deprive the ability of humility.Science is not the consciousness of truth but the ignorance that an idea, for the time being,is timeless.Ownership belongs not to man.
@leo8a12 there is only one true pain - physical pain. We learned to avoid it. Any other form of pain is subjective and can be avoided by means of self development.
I am religious. And I think religion is important because it helps you psychologically. If what you're doing is being done "for something greater than yourself", then you're more willing to work hard at it. Just look at the great cathedrals around the world.
I also believe in a God because it makes the most sense as to our existence. When I think about how the planet has oxygen, water, food, an ability to repopulate etc. I can't think otherwise than someone/thing perfectly designed this world.
@Gukslaven The world is designed perfectly for US to live in, but should things have happened differently it could have been an entirely different species that existed on this earth? The universe as far as we know it is infinite, and the possibility of living conditions being perfect for a certain species to thrive is therefore also infinite, we've developed thoughts and reasoning, so we being to tag everything with a reason as to why it exists, that's how I think religion started
Today people call them selves Christian, but their ancestors would doubt that fact. They are Christians in the sense that they "speak" to Jesus every now and then between the vodka shot and a trip to the strip club. I dont judge, it seems good enough for me:) But generally its all bull. As for the religion per se - for me it has a value as a "way of life" rather than the all known smth governing me. Originally, being religious meant following certain life path and changing your life accordingly.
The fact of the matter is: it helps you, it is a drug for weak and insecure. The original idea of Christianity, and i am talking solely about Christianity, was actually as deep as Buddhism or any other hip and "deep" religion. First and far most, it helped people to live their lives back in the days, when things were tough and live was short. But now, the life is sweet, and the original idea of Christianity was lost.
@cNbikals0 Man you are in the footrest of a god, can you grant me immortality please. by your grace.Life is far from sweet, talk to your brothers and sisters, they will gladly grant you forgiveness for your ignorance.sorry for my sarcasm it lets me vent so i don't feel alone.this is all true read in between the lines of your pride for your science.
@leo8a12 life is sweet. We can access food and water easily, life duration is long, diseases curable. Laws are at place, life is respected. We are not slaves to anyone, but masters of our own life! You have all the opportunities at your hands to become.. damn.. anything you want to become! The only limit to your abilities is your laziness. How is that not sweet? 200 years ago this was impossible, and you needed God to make all the pain seem meaningful, but now its useless.
I find that many Christians have a problem with atheists and even agnostics which I am myself agnostic. Christians are very defensive if you say anything contrary to their belief and I can see why. It doesn't matter if you're simply stating a fact or posing a question that shows that their reasoning is flawed, they will defend it no matter what. This is because their world is built around it and if you shatter their belief, you shatter their world. In short, they're delusional people.
@christianf21 - You seem slightly ignorant because you fail to recognise you God and Allah are the SAME. Both are Abrahamic religions and subsequently, Jehovah and Allah are one and the same. Ie. Same person, different name. Secondly, Christians are historically greater terrorists. Fact.
i think the main reason is at times when people have nothing else they turn to 'faith' to have something to believe in ,to have hope but hey what do i know I'm just an athiest
@DIVAD291 You dont really know what your talking about when it comes to "things Jesus said". It never says that all you have to beilive is that Jesus died. Part of that is living the life He calls you to live as a follower of Him. I cant explain it all in this small space. Ive been reading my bible every day since I could read and you arent quoting it accuratley.
And that mother bear thing, that is instinctual not morral. She will also kill that cub if it comes back 3yrs later and wnts her food
religion is shallow in the respect that religious people believe in your god and no one else's and were as people like me look for answers religious people don't they look at a book and say it is but why is it that book right
as well yess god my be real but not in the way he is put in the bible
If you look at different gods, they are all similar to the people worshipping them. This leads me to think that god is an invention of mankind. Perhaps there is a creator of the universe, but why should he care more about humans than any other living being? It's just a dream.
hmm there is a god, just not the ones we potry. There is no difference in greek mythology than the bibles stories, whats to say they weren't written by someone to start a revolution of some sort or to scare kids at night and fuck with their minds.
in the bible it teaches people to forgive and forget and yet "god" will deny you as you denied him.. seems bitter to me and not very father-like.So to say. i havent figured it all out yet considering i'm still young. but thats my thoughts simpled down
"They proved to me by convincing reasons that God does not exist; Afterwards I saw God, for he came and embraced me. And now what am I to believe- the reasoning of others or my own experience? Truth is what the soul has seen and experienced; the rest is appearance, prejudice and opinion." - Sri Aurobindo
I am a non-religious human, and also a student of philosophy. I believe in God because I have experienced it/him/her :) Religion is not a good way to find God. Use your brain. Belief system can only hurt your intellect being.
I believe in Allah because of the Quran. If you knew Arabic, you would know that it's miraculous and extremely superior to anything else written in Arabic ( literature wise). Also, it has no gaps in it. Exclude all the beliefs you would make of Heaven, hell, and the rest of imaginary stuff. Quran has no gaps in it at all. It guides your life fully. It can lead the most peaceful community if fully followed.
@TheZakzook uuh...did you just say "it can lead the most peaceful community if fully followed"? Have you not been watching the news for the past decade? Terrorists exist and they are fighting for that cause of the Quran, for their bloodthirsty God Allah!
@christianf21 You're a really smart person that believe everything the news! Very smart! You're statement is so dam ignorant it's not even funny. Maybe go read ANYTHING about Islam before making such a statement?
@christianf21 I am an atheist but really saying that someone else's god is bloodthirsty he is not bloodthirsty what they do is the same thing many past religions have done INCLUDING the current largest religion in the world Christianity they burned the jews use to massacre them just for believing in something different its like a school problem 1 kid thinks the answer is A the other kid thinks the answer is B should that mean one should kill each other?
@christianf21 of course not my point here is that MANY many lives have been lost due to religion its not a blame it on one religion all or close to all religions have had a contribution to so much death.
I totally agree with the point you made about militant atheism. I'm an atheist, but that doesn't describe my worldview at all. It describes my views as much as not believing in fairies describes my views.
@DeanLeysen (continued) Alife where it wouldnt really matter if I wanted to be a murderer or thief ect. Because, after all, there would be nothing for me in the end any way,if I havnt a God. You can never fully understand why Christians believe what they do unless you accept it for yourself. And just because we believe in our God doesnt mean we can draw you a picture of him. I dont try and push what I believe on people. I just hope they will see things in a different light.
@DeanLeysen so do you really believe there is no god atall? And if so,why not? Merely for lack of physical evidence? I believe that if there were no God than we would have no morals at all. And if we ARE just evolved animals then where do we get our conscience from? Animals dont choose morals. If God was something that could be seen or explained like any other thing then He wouldnt be a very Godlike.
I would waaay rather live a life WITH meaning instead of a pointless life where a really wouldnt
@jellibell13 the only reason your life wouldn't have meaning is if you don't live a meaningful life. the easiest question to answer is "what is the meaning of life?" ... TO LIVE! and no, he doesn't believe in god for the very reason you said, no evidence.. i believe our morals come from santa claus (no, seriously) and that if we're nice, we get rewarded with ps3's and cars and jordans. unless you have an argument against santa, then there's really no reason to believe in god is there?
@jellibell13 i taught morals were just created because they gave us a better chance of survival.where do we get our conscience from?idk but why would it mean that there is a god...i dont understand the point your trying to make.animals have a lot of morals...IE:a mom bear will protect her kid.
You ask him if he doesn't believe for lack of physical evidence... what is wrong with that? Also, you imply that a god can't be explained or they wouldn't be godlike... then why bother trying to understand if it's beyond your comprehension. I'll skip the conscience part you said, because you make no sense at all with that. So why is your life meaningless without your god? Why do you think a thief or murderer will be punished by a god, could it be that it just gives you comfort?
God/gods or sacred things are an idea created by humans to rationalize things they don't understand. We've created various things like the tooth fary, santa claus and so on. Everything in my opinion just as possible. Religion is a fairy tale reflecting the ideal normes of the time it was made. A tool. It can be used for both good and bad.
Dean you do realize the God that Christians, Jews and Muslims worship are the same? Allah is the arabic term for God. Even though I was raised as a muslim, I have taken the time to actually find reasons why I believe in Allah. I believe in intelligent design that humans were created in such a way that is completely different from other species. I also believe that in order for something to exist, there must be a creator. An entity which far exceeds human understanding.
Dean,i have to say that i'm born a christian and even though i'm not that much of a practitioner,as i don't go to church and don't really follow all the christian events as i could,i do believe in god as a grand arhitect, might i say a fine tuner of this universe.I believe in mind before matter because we all know that if one piece of sand was maybe further with 1 cm then it actually was at the moment of the big bang, our planet would not exist today in the form that we know it.
Religion is stupid and limiting. Countless wars have been fought in its name, people get rich off of it... If people are still stupid enough to beleive in this stuff in 2012, they havent spent 1 minute looking at science or thought about things a little deeper.
and in terms of ppl not hearing of god.there is no one on planet that hasn't heard of god and even if he hasn't then u should read of stroy of abraheem.PEACE ma frinds.and yea plzzz dean leysen do some research on quran sciance facts and let me know of what you think.peace
hey pple if i tell u that i wanted 2 cross ocean & a ship suddenly was made of trees for me 2 cross it would u believe me.exactly like that the big bang theory desnt make sense.now in terms of which god to believe in, look it fact.i challenge u all to study quran's science.back in days there wasnt much of tech yet mohamad spoke of all science matters.with is impossible to figre out.Ex mountains are as pegs 4 earth, humen development stages and much more. wich r now proven by scientest after 1500
I believe in a god but I don't believe in the books like the bible. They are story books to me. A guide to follow in life that people have tampered with over the years. I find it unfair that a person growing up in a secluded society (possibly one we don't even know about) will not go to heaven because they do not know "our" specific god. I felt quite empty when I went through my atheist stage. Believing in this gives me hope. Believing in something that to me makes more sense makes me happy.
i find it interesting that people know that god is real and the only god, and other people know that allah is real and the only god. Just like people new that zeus and athena and all the others were gods, and that they were real.
as i was looking up just how many religions exist, i came across an answer about humanism. humanism believes that we all have our own god and beliefs, so the answer is equal to the worlds population. as for moral beliefs, if they arnt harmful or radical, dont disrespect their belief. stop arguing over religions, if somebody is passionate about their relgions, it obviously means something to them, so people shouldnt try to get rid of it.
Guess I'm christian, but I don't really take EVERY thing in the bible seriously, like god created the world in six days (the bible says 6000 years in our time), he just set up the big bang, evolution, etc. For the people who take the bible seriously and think all the gays should die, look two verses down, oh look you can't eat shellfish, you can't eat pork, you can't eat beef... so you can only eat fish, also, I am very aware of the possibility that some translations are be wrong.
@mrevil0001 So you only pick things from the Bible that make you feel comfortable and reject the things you don't agree with? Seems like you've got your own ideas about right and wrong, and you don't need that stupid book. You're probably not far from realizing the entire Bible is utter bullshit, good for you man.
@Helleu1 That's actually kinda true, I just sort of combine both the bible and science and all that stuff, and one reason I don't believe the world is going to end in 2012 is that early christian believed that already happen'd, also i'm not part of the whole war of the Christians vs Athiest, I think it's stupid. The other weird thing about me is that I have athiest friends who go to church for morale reasons, great now i'm rambling again. :|
@mrevil0001 Well science doesn't really go together with the Bible, unless of course you only use it for morality lessons. Even though the Bible might provide some nice morality lessons, I think a modern man can come up with better stuff. The problem with religion is that it are always people telling you what to believe, it's never a God speaking to all of us with one clear message. Hence all the religious denominations. Always trust your own mind, don't let others think for you.
@Helleu1 The actual reason I believe in god is because I choose to, not because some guy on the street told me to "repent my sins", and like I said, there could be SO many translations gone wrong that we might not even have the whole story. And I agree with you with the problem with religion is people always telling you to believe, that's just annoying. Also, something I should have said in the last comment, even Jesus took stuff out of what was the bible at the time he wasn't comfortable with.
@mrevil0001 Well ok, maybe you chose for it, but most religious folks were just brought up to believe in a certain God. If you were born in a catholic society, it's likely you will become catholic. Born in ancient Greece, you would be worshipping Zeus. My point is, there are so many different religions, but none of them have supportive evidence. So why believe one religion is true and reject the others with ease? People were raised to accept it blindly, even if facts tell otherwise.
i dont understand what your saying at all...you dont believe in the bible then?
i assume you do believe in some parts of the bible.
how can you decide what to follow and what you wont follow?
because of the morals you have that have nothing to do with god?you dont really believe in god if you dont do things that you dont want to do and you still do things that you want to do.you believe in a god but not the christian god.
@DIVAD291 Okay let me explain, EVERYTHING I don't believe in was in the old testament, in the new testament, Jesus said new rules apply, the old ones don't (except for the Ten Commandments), so yeah, the old testament is for the Jewish the new for Christians and Muslims, probably should have explained that in my other comments I made here, but YouTube wouldn't let me because of the character limit.
@mrevil0001 what about moral issues?if its written that you should do X things that you dont want to do because you believe its immoral will you do it?your explanation didnt really make any kind of difference, another thing...how do you deal with things that contradict eachother?
@DIVAD291 All the bible says is i you believe that Jesus is our savior your going to Heaven, (and yes there are some things it says to keep you out of hell and a lot of story) plus there aren't really that many things in the new testament that I think is immoral, but if do you find anything in the bible that's immoral, there's usually a loophole of some kind.
Evolution gave us intelligence to create tools that help our survival and replication, not to question our morals or pretend that we're masters of the universe and that we know everything. What good does that do us? Feed our egos?
is it really that "illogical" to believe that there is a god? Ask yourself why you are laughing... at the people who blindly believe in god? When you open a science book, you believe what scientists tell you, isn't that the same as religion? Or when you adopt a "moral code", or give rules to romantic relationships, isn't that the same as religion? Its fucking human nature and it’s good for us.
if i were to take a watch (with all its complexities and intricacies) and i put it in a protective case and release it into space, and an alien civilisation 15 billion light years away were to catch as it landed on their planet, they could either 1.say that it’s just a coincidence or 2. Say: "who the fuck is out there??” Although there’s a 0.000000000000000000000000001 per. Chance that’s it’s just a "coincidence" the logical/rational thing to do is to understand that there is a creator
@youngmilli208 haha that's exactly how I think religion started. When people couldn't explain why things happened, they just said it was god who did it.
"THERES A BIG FU*KING BALL OF FIRE IN THE SKY!! Oh well God must have done it"
I think in our day and age, where so distracted by what goes on in the media, drama, and physiological ideas that we forget to observe nature, and everything that goes around us on a logical intuitive level.
There are two options when explaining why this world is here, 1st option is, there’s a mind that is 1. All knowing, and 2. Favourable towards life who created it and the 2nd option is that everything just appeared out of nowhere for no apparent reason. a logical person who is in touch with nature and everything around us will easily understand that there is a god, the evidence is everywhere (i know they hate when i say that but whatever) and every civilisation before us has understood that.
). I think alot of atheists are afraid of the unknown (i.e. god) and when they're faced with something that’s unknown they either 1. Run away from it, 2. Say that it doesn’t exist, or 3. Make fun of/ridicule it (overcompensating)
I think alot of atheists are smart intelligent people, and what they do is they try to explain things (and get a logical grip on it) whether it be abstract ideas, how things work etc. now when you look at the idea of god, you can’t really explain him, yea you understand the idea of a god, but you can’t really EXPLAIN god (he's mysterious).
I agree with you. Why believe in your god? Because you were raised to do so. If you were born in an atheist society and introduced to the concept of God at the age of 33, then you would probably think that the one introducing the concept to you out of their mind.
Religion was born as a way to explain the world but it persists because people want to be special. I can't explain it all in one comment but it has to do with Ego, fear of death and more - but that doesn't make it real. :)
- It's the same god but ppl give it different names and attach their own internal representation. the map is not the territory.
- they have faith bcz on one hand they perceive there's a creator but they inherit their internal representation of god from their surroundings in the form of mental programming since childhood. so even though god exists most representations of god are false...because there's no specific defined caracteristics of god bcz god is self transcendent
I believe in my god mainly because it is all I have been thought, but there are a few inconsistencies which technically have been proven wrong such as the earth was created 10,000 years ago in 7 days and nights. It has been proven that the earth is a lot older than 10,009 years. All though there are something's in the bible that could be or are theoretically very historically accurate but others are to give values of and "rights or wrongs" of everyday life more than they are to be historically
The reality in which we live is driven by causality. However, if we accept this to be true, then if you follow this causal chain back far enough, you reach an "independent" cause. In other words, there had to be a point where something came from nothing. Therefore, it follows logically that our reality was influenced by something outside our reality. Just as scientists believe in the atom model, I am a Christian because it makes the most sense out of the explanations I have considered thus far.
@7Slayde I like this post and agree with most of it, but a question I have to ask is, do you believe that Christianity is the ONLY way to God? and if you don't confess Jesus is Lord you are convicted to eternal hell? The God that I believe in created everyone and loves us all. Less than 1/3 of the world is Christian. In my eyes God brings ALL of Gods children to his side. Also Do you believe that Jesus was God in the flesh. I love Jesus, but don't believe he was God in flesh, but Gods child
@baywriter12 I believe exactly this: Jesus is the only way to God; he said so himself. Secondly, you seem to have trouble reconciling the idea of eternal hell. Think of it this way: God loves us. He loves us so much, in fact, that he gives us free will. In fact, the only way someone goes to hell is if they reject God until their dying day. (Matthew 12: 31-32) He even loves us enough to allow us to choose to be apart from him. What makes hell hell is complete and total separation from God. (cont)
@DirtyAtreyu According to the Bible, it is not lack of evidence that keeps people from believing in God. The evidence is available for all to see but most people do not bother to investigate the evidence. I recommend the book: I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, by Norman Geisler. You should be able to find and read it for free on Google books.
@7Slayde Whenever I get in a conversation with members of my highly religious family they inevitably tell me "In the end it comes down to faith." So what is faith? Believing in something without sufficient evidence to back it up. But I'll check out that book and post another response when I find time to read it.
@DirtyAtreyu Faith is defined as "a strongly held belief or theory", and "complete trust or confidence in someone or something". Implicit in the definition is a lack of proof, sure, but not a lack of evidence. You can have sufficient evidence to believe in something, without having sufficient evidence to prove it. I look forward to your response to the book; it's quite interesting.
@7Slayde I recognized the co author of that book, Frank Turek from a debate I watched a little while back between him and Christopher Hitchens. I highly suggest watching it, you can find it on youtube at /watch?v=0TjfNjBnjRY
@baywriter12 (cont) Thirdly, I think a distinction needs to be made when referring to God. The idea of the Trinity defines God as three divine persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Typically, when people refer to God, they are referring to God, the Father. Jesus is God, the Son. So yes, Jesus is God, but Jesus is not God, the Father, if that makes sense. Each of the three is God, wholly and completely, but they remain distinct from each other in manifestation.
@7Slayde book of mathew also says Jesus says "My father, who lives in Heaven and is greater than I" is this not very clear that they are separate not "one" or how about when he goes into the mountains to pray? does someone who is one with God have to pray? if so please tell me who he is praying to? Christians make up less than a third of the world. if you believe in a God that is going to send the rest to hell, quite simply you believe in a God of torture. pretty gross if you ask me,
@chungcha0 oh please you fuckwit do you have NOTHING else to do but be dickhead.. fuck get a life you fuck. cant i have my opinion? and you have no idea what happened... im surprised i didnt die.. go fuck yourself :)
@Mr44centz well , you should have died you fuckin dickhead. you don't have the right to your opinion :). there is only one truth. There is NO GOD. If you think otherwise you should go to a mental institution.
@baywriter12 Listen , we can do this ...meet me somewhere, my whole family on the police force, I got plenty gap. Meet me where you want me, but you better be STRAPPED! cause i'm gonna be strapped and im gonna smoke yo ass !!!.
Bring any goddamn artillery you need, 'cause I got plenty.
@chungcha0 Sorry I am a not violent person when I'm at home. just figured I would let you know that there is probably more important things you can be doing than harassing people on the internet, it is rude. Also the police force is very unlikely to help you out seeing I'm in Afghanistan working a turret, so catch the next plane you can this way, and the unit n I can teach you what real artillery is lol. strapped lmao I'm geared out from helmet to boots every single day.
@3dwardcullen69 sounds kind of strange hey, but i did not say I was strapped I was responding to an earlier post. This was clearly a sarcastic response to a ghetto wanna be.
My beliefs in God are always capable of change due to knowledge of truth. I believe heavily in science, and that it will be used in many ways to cure the world of pain. when people from all walks of life come together and finally complete a world of perfect harmony is when I believe Gods plan for us has become complete. There is obviously much more to my theory which is why I'm currently writing a book based on my beliefs, but I believe everyone beliefs in God should be somewhat different.

Why doesn't anyone follow the sumerian gods anymore? Shouldn't they have more rights to followers than these new gods? I guess my point here is that I believe religion is nothing more than a product of culture. Therefore I can not believe in a deity that was man made.

if you want logic there is some that god does exist.1) they recently found pieces of an arc in egypt how did it get there? This is all scientifically possible but people would rather believe it happend by luck which is their choice. I personally believe in a higher power.

I enjoyed watching this video quite a lot (ok loads because you were in it); although it was particularly interesting as I am what you might call a militant atheist or a neo atheist. My reasoning is as follows:

personally when you look at DNA you might notice that it has a certain set of instructions, they can be modified but nobody has ever really seen a case where the gene changes completely, a moth turning from white to brown is just a slight alteration of the code already in the moth. to grow a new leg the code would have to change completely and we while we have seen mutations the problem usually fixes itself in the next generation. evolutionists have repeatably changed their positions.

They are Christians in the sense that they "speak" to Jesus every now and then between the vodka shot and a trip to the strip club. I dont judge, it seems good enough for me:) But generally its all bull. As for the religion per se - for me it has a value as a "way of life" rather than the all known smth governing me.

@christianf21 of course not my point here is that MANY many lives have been lost due to religion its not a blame it on one religion all or close to all religions have had a contribution to so much death.

@ipriestHolmes So santa claus is your god??
jellibell13 2 weeks ago
@DeanLeysen (continued) Alife where it wouldnt really matter if I wanted to be a murderer or thief ect. Because, after all, there would be nothing for me in the end any way,if I havnt a God. You can never fully understand why Christians believe what they do unless you accept it for yourself. And just because we believe in our God doesnt mean we can draw you a picture of him. I dont try and push what I believe on people. I just hope they will see things in a different light.
jellibell13 2 weeks ago in playlist Featured
@DeanLeysen so do you really believe there is no god atall? And if so,why not? Merely for lack of physical evidence? I believe that if there were no God than we would have no morals at all. And if we ARE just evolved animals then where do we get our conscience from? Animals dont choose morals. If God was something that could be seen or explained like any other thing then He wouldnt be a very Godlike.
I would waaay rather live a life WITH meaning instead of a pointless life where a really wouldnt
jellibell13 2 weeks ago in playlist Featured
@jellibell13 the only reason your life wouldn't have meaning is if you don't live a meaningful life. the easiest question to answer is "what is the meaning of life?" ... TO LIVE! and no, he doesn't believe in god for the very reason you said, no evidence.. i believe our morals come from santa claus (no, seriously) and that if we're nice, we get rewarded with ps3's and cars and jordans. unless you have an argument against santa, then there's really no reason to believe in god is there?
iPriestHolmes 2 weeks ago
@jellibell13 i taught morals were just created because they gave us a better chance of survival.where do we get our conscience from?idk but why would it mean that there is a god...i dont understand the point your trying to make.animals have a lot of morals...IE:a mom bear will protect her kid.
what you want doesnt change the reality.
(i have a billion dollar.)
is that true?
yes, since i want to have a billion dollar.
DIVAD291 2 weeks ago

Guess I'm christian, but I don't really take EVERY thing in the bible seriously, like god created the world in six days (the bible says 6000 years in our time), he just set up the big bang, evolution, etc. For the people who take the bible seriously and think all the gays should die, look two verses down, oh look you can't eat shellfish, you can't eat pork, you can't eat beef... so you can only eat fish, also, I am very aware of the possibility that some translations are be wrong.
mrevil0001 1 month ago
@mrevil0001 So you only pick things from the Bible that make you feel comfortable and reject the things you don't agree with? Seems like you've got your own ideas about right and wrong, and you don't need that stupid book. You're probably not far from realizing the entire Bible is utter bullshit, good for you man.
Helleu1 3 weeks ago in playlist Featured
@Helleu1 That's actually kinda true, I just sort of combine both the bible and science and all that stuff, and one reason I don't believe the world is going to end in 2012 is that early christian believed that already happen'd, also i'm not part of the whole war of the Christians vs Athiest, I think it's stupid. The other weird thing about me is that I have athiest friends who go to church for morale reasons, great now i'm rambling again. :|
mrevil0001 3 weeks ago
@mrevil0001 Well science doesn't really go together with the Bible, unless of course you only use it for morality lessons. Even though the Bible might provide some nice morality lessons, I think a modern man can come up with better stuff. The problem with religion is that it are always people telling you what to believe, it's never a God speaking to all of us with one clear message. Hence all the religious denominations. Always trust your own mind, don't let others think for you.
Helleu1 3 weeks ago
@Helleu1 The actual reason I believe in god is because I choose to, not because some guy on the street told me to "repent my sins", and like I said, there could be SO many translations gone wrong that we might not even have the whole story. And I agree with you with the problem with religion is people always telling you to believe, that's just annoying. Also, something I should have said in the last comment, even Jesus took stuff out of what was the bible at the time he wasn't comfortable with.
mrevil0001 3 weeks ago
@mrevil0001 Well ok, maybe you chose for it, but most religious folks were just brought up to believe in a certain God. If you were born in a catholic society, it's likely you will become catholic. Born in ancient Greece, you would be worshipping Zeus. My point is, there are so many different religions, but none of them have supportive evidence. So why believe one religion is true and reject the others with ease? People were raised to accept it blindly, even if facts tell otherwise.
Helleu1 3 weeks ago
@mrevil0001 first off im atheist.
i dont understand what your saying at all...you dont believe in the bible then?
i assume you do believe in some parts of the bible.
how can you decide what to follow and what you wont follow?
because of the morals you have that have nothing to do with god?you dont really believe in god if you dont do things that you dont want to do and you still do things that you want to do.you believe in a god but not the christian god.
DIVAD291 2 weeks ago
@DIVAD291 Okay let me explain, EVERYTHING I don't believe in was in the old testament, in the new testament, Jesus said new rules apply, the old ones don't (except for the Ten Commandments), so yeah, the old testament is for the Jewish the new for Christians and Muslims, probably should have explained that in my other comments I made here, but YouTube wouldn't let me because of the character limit.
mrevil0001 2 weeks ago
@mrevil0001 what about moral issues?if its written that you should do X things that you dont want to do because you believe its immoral will you do it?your explanation didnt really make any kind of difference, another thing...how do you deal with things that contradict eachother?
DIVAD291 2 weeks ago
@DIVAD291 All the bible says is i you believe that Jesus is our savior your going to Heaven, (and yes there are some things it says to keep you out of hell and a lot of story) plus there aren't really that many things in the new testament that I think is immoral, but if do you find anything in the bible that's immoral, there's usually a loophole of some kind.
mrevil0001 2 weeks ago
Evolution gave us intelligence to create tools that help our survival and replication, not to question our morals or pretend that we're masters of the universe and that we know everything. What good does that do us? Feed our egos?

if i were to take a watch (with all its complexities and intricacies) and i put it in a protective case and release it into space, and an alien civilisation 15 billion light years away were to catch as it landed on their planet, they could either 1.say that it’s just a coincidence or 2. Say: "who the fuck is out there??” Although there’s a 0.000000000000000000000000001 per. Chance that’s it’s just a "coincidence" the logical/rational thing to do is to understand that there is a creator

I think in our day and age, where so distracted by what goes on in the media, drama, and physiological ideas that we forget to observe nature, and everything that goes around us on a logical intuitive level.
youngmilli208 1 month ago
There are two options when explaining why this world is here, 1st option is, there’s a mind that is 1. All knowing, and 2. Favourable towards life who created it and the 2nd option is that everything just appeared out of nowhere for no apparent reason. a logical person who is in touch with nature and everything around us will easily understand that there is a god, the evidence is everywhere (i know they hate when i say that but whatever) and every civilisation before us has understood that.
youngmilli208 1 month ago
). I think alot of atheists are afraid of the unknown (i.e. god) and when they're faced with something that’s unknown they either 1. Run away from it, 2. Say that it doesn’t exist, or 3. Make fun of/ridicule it (overcompensating)
youngmilli208 1 month ago
I think alot of atheists are smart intelligent people, and what they do is they try to explain things (and get a logical grip on it) whether it be abstract ideas, how things work etc. now when you look at the idea of god, you can’t really explain him, yea you understand the idea of a god, but you can’t really EXPLAIN god (he's mysterious).
youngmilli208 1 month ago

MrCuPCaK300 1 month ago
The reality in which we live is driven by causality. However, if we accept this to be true, then if you follow this causal chain back far enough, you reach an "independent" cause. In other words, there had to be a point where something came from nothing. Therefore, it follows logically that our reality was influenced by something outside our reality. Just as scientists believe in the atom model, I am a Christian because it makes the most sense out of the explanations I have considered thus far.
7Slayde 1 month ago
@7Slayde I like this post and agree with most of it, but a question I have to ask is, do you believe that Christianity is the ONLY way to God? and if you don't confess Jesus is Lord you are convicted to eternal hell? The God that I believe in created everyone and loves us all. Less than 1/3 of the world is Christian. In my eyes God brings ALL of Gods children to his side. Also Do you believe that Jesus was God in the flesh. I love Jesus, but don't believe he was God in flesh, but Gods child
baywriter12 1 month ago
@baywriter12 I believe exactly this: Jesus is the only way to God; he said so himself. Secondly, you seem to have trouble reconciling the idea of eternal hell. Think of it this way: God loves us. He loves us so much, in fact, that he gives us free will. In fact, the only way someone goes to hell is if they reject God until their dying day. (Matthew 12: 31-32) He even loves us enough to allow us to choose to be apart from him. What makes hell hell is complete and total separation from God. (cont)

@7Slayde So if we disbelieve in Jesus in our ~80ish years on this planet due to lack of evidence we thereby deserve to suffer for ∞ years?
DirtyAtreyu 3 weeks ago
@DirtyAtreyu According to the Bible, it is not lack of evidence that keeps people from believing in God. The evidence is available for all to see but most people do not bother to investigate the evidence. I recommend the book: I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, by Norman Geisler. You should be able to find and read it for free on Google books.
7Slayde 3 weeks ago
@7Slayde Whenever I get in a conversation with members of my highly religious family they inevitably tell me "In the end it comes down to faith." So what is faith? Believing in something without sufficient evidence to back it up. But I'll check out that book and post another response when I find time to read it.
DirtyAtreyu 3 weeks ago
@DirtyAtreyu Faith is defined as "a strongly held belief or theory", and "complete trust or confidence in someone or something". Implicit in the definition is a lack of proof, sure, but not a lack of evidence. You can have sufficient evidence to believe in something, without having sufficient evidence to prove it. I look forward to your response to the book; it's quite interesting.
7Slayde 3 weeks ago
@7Slayde I recognized the co author of that book, Frank Turek from a debate I watched a little while back between him and Christopher Hitchens. I highly suggest watching it, you can find it on youtube at /watch?v=0TjfNjBnjRY
DirtyAtreyu 3 weeks ago
@baywriter12 (cont) Thirdly, I think a distinction needs to be made when referring to God. The idea of the Trinity defines God as three divine persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Typically, when people refer to God, they are referring to God, the Father. Jesus is God, the Son. So yes, Jesus is God, but Jesus is not God, the Father, if that makes sense. Each of the three is God, wholly and completely, but they remain distinct from each other in manifestation.
7Slayde 1 month ago
@7Slayde book of mathew also says Jesus says "My father, who lives in Heaven and is greater than I" is this not very clear that they are separate not "one" or how about when he goes into the mountains to pray? does someone who is one with God have to pray? if so please tell me who he is praying to? Christians make up less than a third of the world. if you believe in a God that is going to send the rest to hell, quite simply you believe in a God of torture. pretty gross if you ask me,
