  • Follow me on twitter :) @yellie_bear

  • I come from the FUTURE.

  • Who came here from the Choplifter HD video?

  • if this is an advanced 7800 game, why does it utilize many of the sound effects from Combat,..one of the first ever 2600 games?

  • why the hell you sound like homer simpson

  • He has a strong midwestern accent.

  • It is nice to see a good game on several systems. I do think that the Sega Master System version is the best, because the D-pad is the best for this game. The graphics are not as good, but a decent port for a classic game.

  • ZX Spectrum for the win!

  • I just got a 7800 with two games (along with "Asteroids" built-in). CGR's reviews will be helpful with finding more titles. Yes, I just used "helpful" and "CGR" in the same sentence. Speaking of which...I just remembered I got this on the Master System some weeks ago thinking it would be a defender clone. Might give it another chance now I know what to do....

  • Whenever I hear an American say "Zed X Spectrum," it's every ounce of strength I have to keep from punching them.

  • @VelvetKevorkian gonna cry some more ?

  • @VelvetKevorkian I, as an American, say bring it bitch

  • @VelvetKevorkian Who gives a shit how one says "Zed X Spectrum"? If that pisses you off, you have some serious issues man.

  • @VelvetKevorkian It is Zed X and im uk and have on on my desk.

  • Shop Lifter... I remember this game 8D

    Got it for the GBC

  • Your video game reviews are extremely entertaining and informative. Thank you for doing this.

  • Three people gave their lives during the filming of this video. May they rest in peace.

  • Kind of odd that when you're dropping off the hostages they leave the copter one person at a time. I remember the Apple II version where they'd come out as a group. Much faster! Maybe it was a hardware limitation. I also remember the Apple II version being harder than this appears to be, though the missiles from the jets come MUCH faster in this version! The Apple II version tended to bog, which made it harder (read "more frustrating to play"), and it had multiple levels.

  • Pint please! Loving the review, very well done!

  • This version is cool but still I prefer the C64 version -smoother sprites mvts, better inertia and the migs do not attack you once border crossed.

  • just play lifeforce on nes

  • To this day my dad jokes about how I would land on the hostages. Just landing in the middle of a group is the fastest way to finish. If a few get squashed so be it.

  • choplifter sounds like a product that billy mayes would have endorsed, and even the guy on the cartrage looks like him, from behind

  • Inecomcompany

    this was awesome.

    subscribed.

  • the helicopter is either a clown car or a mexican coming over the border...rascist

  • The American flag has...50 stars...

Had to think about it a little, eh?

  • i love this game...

someone made a version of it for the TI-84 and TI-83 lol

    yes.. calculator lol

    its called kopterlifter lol

  • I had the sega master version. That game killer music. :)

  • i like the music when the screen turns red on your video why did u make the song sound different in ur new videos?

  • It was also in the arcades by Sega. The Sega Master System version is an exact copy.

  • No, the Sega Master version is above and beyond better than the 7800. Not an exact copy.

  • I don't think you understood me. I agree that the SMS is better than the 7800 but I was letting him know that the sega master system and the arcade versions are designed the same way.

  • Yeah, like usual, I realized what the other person meant after I posted something. Sorry.

  • No problem, it okay.

  • Yo need to review all of those systems... but you need to get a Fairchiled Channel F (Mark 2 if passable).

  • why not "En Ee Ess" vs "Ness"

    :)

    Game and Watch obviously

  • the ZX spectrum vs the Zee-x spectrum?

    the commodore 64, obviously.

  • Dude, since when did Webber grills randomly make an appearance in video games? lol

  • this game should make a comeback... on the PS3!!

using all of its capabilities, not that limited stuff

  • the tanks look liek turtles lol

  • one of the very first games i ever owned for any console.

Atari 7800 was my first system.

  • Nice review, thanks for posting it.

It was also released for the MSX. It was one of my favorites.

  • haha kinda short game!

  • I think this is a Decepticon logo on the flag.

  • or nintendo 64

    lol

  • LMAO I was thinking the same thing, that helicopter is like a clowncar!!!^_^

  • u can stop the video on any time between 0:42 and 0:58 ...... if u do u would notice that th heli got only 1 fan (only one end ) up :P HAHAHAHAHAH

  • its called a blade not a fan dumbass

  • The "flying squid" looks like a flying grill hahaha

  • LOL YEAH :P

  • you have dragons lair arcade version or brain dead 13 for playstation?

  • Retard

  • stfu noob. I bet he'll like it that you'd like him to review pc games. But he doesnt want to so stfu.

  • Either your drunk, or a fucktard. Mark reviews what he wants to dumbass.

  • 4:20 atari logos!

  • It's a Canadian helicopter XD

  • Yeah, no one starves to death.......or dies of dysentery.

  • I still play choplifter on my master system.

  • This is based on the original Broderbund Apple version, not the arcade version.

Atari might not have even had rights to make the arcade version.

  • Yep, it wasn't until Sega's port of the Arcade version on the SMS. (and other ports Sega did)

  • how many mexicans can you fit on a choperrrrr

how many mexicans can you fit!?!?!?!

    da do dooo

  • Did they ever make a game called "Shoplifter"?

  • Yes, you are Winona Ryder and you must go through stores and shoplit as much crap as possible without getting caught. :)

  • What are those squashed yellow atari logos on the ground?

  • That's the marker for your base area. Enemies can't follow you past that point. Except the fighter will if he's already on-screen.

If you sit in your base long enough, the purple balloon mine thing will float up against the border and sit there.

  • exelent classic moment this ! i played this on the commodore 64, but i suck at the game. still, the funy animated people that needed to be resqued where fun :-) and the atari version was more collorfull somehow.

  • The last hostage pauses to wave at the player, that's adorable.

  • i was playing this game for the master system yesterday, its hard, or i suck at it either way its worth picking up

  • haha i had this game when i was a kid awsome vid man.

  • you say tomato, i say tomato...that phrase doesn't work written down but you get the point. (it's zed ex spectrum though, sir clive was british hehe)

  • what hostage crisis in 81?

  • When some students in Iran held some Americans hostage in the American embassy.

  • you know the one that happened in that one place.

  • ???

  • i think this game is trying to give us subliminal messages and teach us to be shoplifters but it is really fun and some times i try to crush people

  • Moar ipod / iphone reviews..

  • Can I recommend you look out for Air Rescue on the Sega Master System as well, as it's made by the same team who developed Choplifter for the Master System and is pretty much a spiritual sequel!

Also that flag stars look more like the WWE logo, Maybe Vince Mahoan bought America int he 80's :D

  • it's on the master system too :)

  • This game looks like fun. ^_^

  • 2.06 Windsquids cousin?

  • Maybe the 7800 got the demo and the other consoles got the real game. A cruel joke if ya ask me

  • All non-arcade/SMS versions only had the one level.

  • The Sega Master System version had many levels. It was an exact copy of the arcade version, which was also made by SEGA.

  • Mark's right when he states that the Sega Master System version is vastly superior. I own that version, as well as for the 7800. What kills me is that the 7800 version only has the first level. The SMS version had many more. In fact, I was never able to beat it. Damn caves!!! LOL!

  • This game was out in arcades back in the day. That version was tremendously fun. What you have here looks way to basic, and as Mark said, it's just not *finished*. In the arcade choplifter, there were a lot of color schemes to represent different types of terrain, and the difficulty ramped up at a good, solid pace making it a very hard game to master. And, most importantly, you actually played for a real score rather than just trying to get to 64. That part of this version is stupid.

  • How many games do you have ? ?

    Great review btw ;D

  • Eh, not really, this is about the norm for the Atari 7800...

  • to me, it looks like a bbq grill.

  • I have Choplifter III on the SNES.

  • Does that mean there was a Choplifter II? Where?

  • Game Boy.

  • I hate those bombers!

  • I had the nes version.

  • I had the Apple II version.

  • ZEDx spectrum, it is British after all

  • awsome

  • the flying hot air balloon thing reminds me of FLCL...

  • hah, ikr

  • quick! somebody get the spicy curry!

  • Or gets dysentery.

  • its on sega master system too, where i played and owned it

  • i always wondered - does only 1 guy write all that reviews or is there some team of reviewers and just 1 presenter?

  • I'm pretty sure its Just Mark.

  • It's just one guy.

  • my friend has this game for Commodore VIC-20

Cool video man. I think I will pass on this version of Choplifter. Or will maybe get it if I find it cheap.

  • A very classic game!!

    Awesome!

  • i like how the clouds/mountains move

  • would have been ironic if they had a typo an S instead of the C

  • looks fun

  • GET TO THE CHOPPA

  • I was totally thinking about clown cars when I watched this game, too.

  • I loved this game on the gameboy. I still have it.

  • Choplifter for the SMS is still my favorite version. :P

... some of the greatest music ever too. :D

  • Choplifter...wow, I've not played that game in a while. I was born in 1987 and played this when i was bout five years old. Oh the memories.
