Since I come from a Muslim family myself and since I have had to deal with my own journey towards practising Islam and the understanding of it; my advise to you would be FOLLOW the Quran and the Sunnah according to the understanding of the companions of our beloved Prophet (pbuh). Cause at the end of the day, who understood Islam better than the companions? They where around the Prophet! He tought them first hand! May Allah strengthen you!
