  • it'd be even better if he got the right chord progression for the middle 8

  • the melody sounds like, "lost highway."

  • 11 people never created a masterpiece.

  • Anyone know what elliotts shirt says in this one?

  • @liracul "The Pirate Battalion; Army ROTC; Hampton University"

  • @ChesaDexter Cool, thanks! ^_^

  • It's sad that this is all we have left of Elliott. I mean, it's a great video. But it's a video.

  • @ChadReidSmith In time this video will also disappear, and so will everyone who ever watched it or ever knew anyone who ever heard this music.

  • It's sad that this is all we have left of Elliott. I mean, it's a great video. But it's a video.

  • it's not perfect! Elliott must more learn

  • it's not perfect!

  • wow! really?!?! Awesome!

  • Check out what my kitten did with Jokerman, it will change your world! =P

  • seen better on the streets

  • @MercurialSound you do know the man has passed right, nice thing to say

  • I have to say, although I love Dylan, and Elliot. I think "The Band's" version of this song is by far my favorite.

  • hi it's great Performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • such an awsome song!! miss u elliott.

  • Oh my god, this was absolutely amazing! I can't even put into words how amazing this was!

  • Levon Helm's version on the Cahoots Album is the "only" one I've ever liked .

You're the only one who come close to covering it in such a way . Next time you cover this song , grab it by the balls and swing the fuker by its sack and belt it out like ole Levon done !! ;)

  • @ericellers he's dead. so he can't cover this song again.

  • elliott has so much talent, everytime i listen to him its like he never left, hes always here playing for us :)

  • I'm watching the Dylan covers uploaded 2 utube.

Hes 1 of my faves...not bad.

  • I can't stop listening to this. Is there anywhere to download it?

  • im surprised dylan hasnt covered him....

  • this cover is great

  • Simmer down people; it's a Bob Dylan song. The Band covered it and made a couple small alterations: compare "where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece" in Dylan's version to "where I've got me a date with a pretty little girl from Greece" in The Band's. So Elliott is covering the Band covering Bob Dylan.

  • i'm not gonna crack up. i will not laugh.

ha yea yea elliott you make me laugh.

  • actually...THE BAND cover...

  • @jennerich9

nope. Bob wrote it and recorded it first.

  • actually, it's a BOB DYLAN song! The BAND covered it.

  • i miss that man on the left

  • it sucks that Elliott is dead. RIP

  • oh my bill bailey.

    i love this!! :o

rip elliott and happy birthday :)

  • no way...elliott covering bob. there would only be one thing cooler in life than this. that would be bob covering elliott. my head would explode with an overload of joy.

  • hahaha I couldn't help but smile to that unexpected comment :D

  • @whitestripebuzz That is an awesome idea!! Just trying to think which would be the best song for him to do.

  • heh, unplugged gigs in record stores aren't easy...

  • i cant thank you enough for uploading this.

  • this is the most epic thing ive seen all week

  • Someone tell me the chords to this song ASAP!!!!

  • basically a mix of

    B Bsus4 F E

    middle part G#min B, lead out G#min F E

  • yeah band version ftw

  • Simply the best

  • WOW!! Newbury Comics!!

  • yea this is just great

  • Very good...

  • somebody have this complete show on video please ?

  • I really enjoyed this. Soooo cool!!!!

  • he sings the lyrics as dylan wrote them

  • it seems more like he's singing them the way Levon Helm Sings them in The Band's version.

Doesn't dylan say something about botticelli's niece? and that it will "be smooth like a rhapsody" and some other minor differences in the third verse.

Seems like this is more a cover of the Band's version, although Dylan wrote it.

  • It's weird. I was thinking wouldn't be cool if elliott smith would cover a dylan piece. Then I found this, and it was the last Dylan song I would think Smith would cover.

  • he covered several dylan songs actually.

  • Did he cover this one?

  • nope

  • Damn, I really wanted to hear Elliott Smith covering Bob Dylan's song "When I Paint My Masterpiece".

He covered several Dylan songs actually. But not this one, I guess :(

  • which ones man???

  • Jesus - I was at this. He opened with "Stoke It, Noel." He did autographs afterwards and signed my copy of Either/Or.

  • I'm so freaking jealous

  • i think he was a secret grateful dead fan, but i knew him and he was. rest my brother.

  • and yer my fact-checkin' cuz. :)

  • @tatelabianca PAVEMENT REFERENCE

I know this was 2 years ago, but I hope you know that at least one person caught it.

  • no one could have done it better...

  • This video made my day.

  • the best version of this song I have heard in a long while. I think hes saying hes not gonna laugh at the beginning, buck.

  • I love him and he did a perfect job.

  • such a great song! does anybody know what he says right at the beginning?

  • Hi Samek, The first thing he says is "Im not gonna crack up-I will not laugh" in the song the first line he sings is "Oh the streets of Rome are filled with rubble, ancient footprints are everywhere"

  • I like this a lot but I wish he did tommorrow is a long time. He would have made that song great but I still love him ofcourse

  • God . . . that's Elliott Smith

  • Beautiful.

  • wow that was amazing

  • I remember this Newbury Comics performance well...at one point, a guy in the audience passed out, and Elliott stopped to see if he was OK.

  • Thats one of the reasons I love Elliott so much.

Youre so lucky that you were there, Im honestly so jealous.

  • it's a good thing that we have people that have been inspired by elliott to carry on his masterful sound.

like elliott covers bob dylan here; many generations will cover elliott's songs.

  • all I can say is wow..:)

  • does anyone have audio of this? I cant find it anywhere.

  • I love how the guy from Boston described this as "wicked awesome."

  • Wicked awesome. Was this at the Newbury St location or the one Downtown next to City Hall? I work downtown very close to the Newbury Comics there and I was working when I heard about his death, I was so upset I had to leave and for some reason found myself wandering that Newbury Comics a few minutes later. I was so shocked by the news, but didn't want to tell anyone who there.

  • lol

  • hahahaha, I only wish he was still alive.

  • Friend, that's Elliott Smith. Just type in that name to the youtube search box. It'll open your eyes (and ears maybe).

  • howe5529... thats not an amateur.. thats elliott smith...

  • .........wow bud lol

  • @howe5529 that's hilarious

  • @howe5529 i hope you're being sarcastic. -.-

  • @howe5529 double lol. wow this has to be a joke.

  • @howe5529 This guy is Elliott Smith, one of the best songwriters of the last years :)

  • I was at this in store. Truth be told at the time I had no idea who Elliott was, I just happened to be downtown and there was a buzz about somebody doing an in store at newbury. I checked it out, and it was amazing. I bought Roman candle, elliott smith and either/or. I had the pleasure of speaking to Elliott afterwards and he was so kind and modest. I have a life experience I will never forget.

  • There's a better Elliott Smith version of this underrated Dylan song out there. I believe it was in a Portland club. Might be audio only though.

  • there is a decent chance that i am in possession of that

    Fame acoutic he is playing.

  • That exact one?

  • I RUV YOU EWIETT

  • Love the Elliott wave.

  • This video made my day. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much. You made my day.
