  • i have a fit is a very very good car ,in six years not a problem

  • VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO

  • I think the top comment may have been a bit harsh. Edmunds statement matches the EPA estimates, which is based on 'typical' trips. If you're getting higher MPG, then you're probably a careful driver.

However, their Prius estimates does seem a bit low as the Prius is supposed to get 50MPG in the city. Regardless, the end results are really the same: Edmunds is right in that the Fit offers much better value. The Prius is great, but the sticker price kills it.

  • I have a Fit - not as luxurious or quiet as the Prius but cheaper to maintain, cheaper to buy, more fun to drive (especially with a 5 speed manual), less complicated so it will probably last longer. I get 34 on the highway and 26 around town with a heavy foot.

Prius is a better choice for a more luxurious and disconnected car (the kind that I hate).

  • Yes they have heavy feet at Edmunds, My 2010 Prius has averaged 53 mpg since new (20Kmiles ago) My 2011 Fit gets (avg,,,) 37 mpg so although their numbers are low,,they still show the Prius correctly as the higher mpg car. I would also prefer the Prius for trip longer than 200 miles,,as it is heavier, and a larger (for crash protection) But the steering is heavier and not as quick, visibility in the Prius is not as good as the Fit.

  • The 2008 Fit hubcaps look good on the Civic Hatchback. They're some of the only Honda factory hubcaps with a little style.

  • the old 1992 civic vx got 55 tested

  • used to get 28-35 mpg with ford escort zx2 2.0 liter 5 speed. Fit must get like 40 mpg.

  • My Prius highway mpg is 53, about 42 for city driving. Aftermarket used price for certified vehicle differences is about 2-3 grands. Clearly a 10 mpg advantage spell a saving of only $1,700 if driven from zero to 120,000 miles and gas prices are same for both vehicle.

Both vehicles are built in Japan, maintenances are low. But hybrid components cost more not including battery replacement cost.

  • The Fit also has electric steering, but I guess it doesn't feel odd like the Prius!

I am averaging 37mpg with my 5-speed Fit, and the best I've seen on the highway is 43mpg. I've also been surprised how practical it is and what a joy it is to drive :)

  • This video is a lie. They did not do their research properly on the Fit. I have a 2008 Honda Fit sport AND it has cruise control!! Including paddle shifters located on the steering wheel. Never in this video was mentioned about the sport model on the fit.

  • @supergir85 I think the aim of the comparison was base model vs. base model. But you are right, the Fit Sport has all of the missing features that were mentioned and would be a better point of comparison vs. the Prius. Even when factoring in the extra $1500-2000 dollars when using the Fit Sport, you are still coming out way ahead compared to the Prius. My next car is going to be a Fit Sport. :)

  • I walked into the Honda dealership fully intending to buy a 2010 Honda Fit sport ,after hours of tireless research, and drove out with a 2008 Toyota Prius w/ 32k mi. There was no comparison with the drive and over all comfort and feel of the car. The Prius feels much bigger in the cabin. I think the Fit makes up the extra space in the headroom of the hatchback area. The Prius has a deeper but shorter hatch area. After driving and actually sitting in the vehicle the Prius won hands down for me.

  • Hybrid is a gimmick, Diesel has a higher fuel efficiency

  • buy a jetta tdi and don't look like a fag driving either.

  • hybrids are stupid, at like 100,000 miles you have to replace the battery and its like 10K to replace, so if yur leasing it fine its ok just dont bee a green douchebag, howerver if yu want to buy a second hand one if its gont lets say 90,000 miles on it in 10,000 it needs 10K to get replaced, so a better solution is a diesel wich lasts 10000000000000 miles and gives no one problems.

  • who would win? honda sir or a nissan 350z?

  • I own 2004 Honda Fit and my dad drove 2008 Toyota Camry. The Fit won in almost everything except comfort.

  • Still, atleast the fit has some, SOME style. The prius is nothing more than an Econobox

  • 28 mpgs in the fit????

i get between 30-33 in my rsx.

    they're full of it

  • @TheTempest909 Exactly I get way better in my fit, I get 42mpg in my fit on the highway at an average speed of 70 mph.

  • Yeah, I have a 2008 fit base model that I ride in stop-and-go traffic all the time. I get 30mpg minimum.

  • yeah, most automotive get the mpg wrong regardless of vehicles.

  • 42 mpg! is that all in a prius! my escape hybrid can average 54.6 mpg! and it is an off roader!!!!!!!

  • Please excuse my language, but that is total bull shit, the honda fit gets an insanely higher amount of mpg then they said, if you drive a honda fit like a normal car you will average 35-43 mpg. Edmunds is horribly wrong on that. Hell my infiniti G37 with a 330 hp v6 gets 30 mpg. 28 mpg on a 120 hp i4 engine by HONDA! Common sense, thats horribly wrong.

  • i agree..... but i highly doubt that your infinity gets 30mpg..... but yeah..

  • @wapreab

If u drive the infiniti like a normal person and dont take advantage of the 330 hp, then you get 30mpg, honest. But the digital guage hits about 0 mpg when i get on it o.O

  • Actually a G37 can get 30mpg its all in how you drive

Besides that engine size has little to do with actual gas millage its more about driving.

Top gear did something that proves my exact point they compared a M3 to a Prius and the M3 got better MPG for how they drove the two cars.

If you have to drive a certain way its not unlikely that a 1.8L will do better MPG than a 1.5L thats why most car companies now offer the 1.8L size as the smallest engine.

  • @InsanityRewritten This is BS. We just got 53mpg in a 2007 Fit Sport from STL to Chicago on only 6 gallons of gas

  • @MyLimpIsGangsta

Well IMO i figure that american companies are trying their best to make it look like Honda gets bad gas mileage. When they get much better then what they say everywhere. Heck I've seen the civic si getting 35-40mpg. The only way ur getting 28mpg in a honda is if you have it floored all the time.

  • @InsanityRewritten agreed my s2000 can get a respectable 23 mpg city and a 30 mpg hwy when driven normally (with a couple of redline shifts and ac on) The epa rates this car at 20 city 26 hwy. Something is really off about epa numbers. I always tend to beat them or perform horribly lower.

  • @InsanityRewritten thats what im saying everyone is saying toyota hybrids are the best but fit gets more than prius at some points and hyundai 2011 sonata gets 35 or even fourty depends on how you driv eit and thats not even a hybrid so honda fit and even hyundai beets toyota hybrids toyota is bullshit

  • I have nearly 90K on my base fit, and have NEVER had 28 MPG, averages around 35....

  • was thinkin about just slappin 4 tires on a dinner roll....anyone game? lol

  • maybe fit wins but u didn't compare CO2 emission..

  • 2010 Models

    MPG; Prius-50, Fit-30

    Passenger Volume; Prius-94ft, Fit-91ft

    Luggage Volume; Prius-22ft, Fit-21ft

    Engine Size (liters)

    Prius-1.8 with 98 hp/105 lb-ft torque

    Fit- 1.5 with 117 hp/106 lb-ft torque

Plus the Prius also has an electric motor with a power output of 80 hp/153 lb-ft torque, powered by a battery that puts out a constant 210 volts with a max of 500 volts.

  • The Prius in this video has a more powerful electric motor then the new 2010 Prius. The 2004-2009 Prius electric motor has about 13 less hp, but has almost double the torque at 295 lb-ft of torque @ 0 rpm

  • @ 0 RPM ....That makes no sense and its sad that a girl even knows that!

  • 295 lb-ft of torque @ 0 rpms means, you have all the power right off the bat. You dont have to wait for it to rev up. Theres no waiting till the electric motor hits a certain rpm level (2,000-6,600 rpm like a standard car engine) before you reach the maximum power output like a gas or diesel engine. A vacuum cleaner and hair dryer both use electric motors, they give me suction and blowing as soon as I turn them on ;-)

So, tell me again, what was so sad that even a girl knew...

  • Or should I say didn't know!

  • Ok. Example One :

The gas engine produces 76 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque, while the electric-drive motor produces the equivalent of 67 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Net peak hp is 110, mainly because the two power sources hit their peak at different times.

    Example Two:

    SAE Net Horsepower @ RPM 76 @ 5000/67 @ 1200 - 1540

    SAE Net Torque @ RPM 82 @ 4200/295

Now what do u say Big Boy? ;-)

  • All you did was prove that everything I said was right.

    "SAE Net Torque @ RPM 82 @ 4200/295"

85 lb-ft (not 82) @ 4200 rpm refers to the gas engine. The source you copied, gave the torque (295) but not the rpm of the electric motor. There's a reason for that, because it's ZERO!

As Fire Marshall Bill would say, LET ME TELL YA SOMETHING!

    Gas Engine: 1.5 Liter

    76 hp @ 5000 rpm

    85 lb·ft @ 4200 rpm

    Electric Motor: 500 Volt

    67 hp @ 1200 rpm

    295 lb·ft @ 0 rpm

  • I guess We Both Know a Thing or two about cars then ....Thnx though ;{)

  • I have owned 3 Acura TLs (96,99,03) and currently own a 2006 Acura RL. I have worked at 5 car dealerships, Acura, Toyota, Dodge, BMW and Lexus. After that, I worked in the valet of the largest casino in the world! I drove over 150 different cars a day! Everything from brand new Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Bently's and a Veyron to 15 year old dirty ass crap like Camry's, Maxima's and Century's. There are few cars I haven't driven, so saying I know a thing or two about cars is an under statement.

  • Comment removed

  • my fit has cruise control?

  • thats the old fit

  • i love Honda ^_^

  • I would go with the fit. It is less complicated, it does not have a 4000 dollar battery to replace, and in the long run the resale will be better.

  • The Prius needs a new battery after 100,000 miles? That's convenient, I didn't know immediately after Toyota's guarantee on the Prius battery ends it will magically break down right there.

  • EPA, fueleconomy(dot)gov New MPG (tests are more realistic) City/Hwy/Combined Prius 2010 - 51/48/50 Prius 2004 - 48/45/46 Insight 2010 - 40/43/41 Fusion 2010- 41/36/39 Smart 2009- 33/41/36 Jetta Tdi 2009 - 29/40/33 RX 450h 2010- 32/28/30 Fit 2009- 27/33/30 They all use very little gas! Pick the one you like the best, and don't hate the rest!
  • Toyota Prius is only $23,000. The Fit is much smaller. My son has the Fit, I have the Prius. This is a an unfair comparison. Totally biased. Why not compare Prius to Civic instead.

  • Most of Edmunds videos are biased. They put the Prius up against everything saying it sucks, while at the same time the Prius out sells everything they put it up against.

  • The same can be said to you. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks. It just means you are a hater.

  • @bmccrani Which one do you like? Prius or fit

  • These guys are stupid, they should be comparing the Fit sport, it has more standard features then the Prius.

The EPA ratings are a useful tool for comparing the fuel economies of different vehicles but may not accurately predict the average MPG you will get.

When you own one of these cars, you no longer care how much gas is.

  • My wife told me that her 5,000 mile maintenance light came on. That means it needs an oil change. I paid $24.50 to get it done. It's a 2007 with 33k on it and the brakes are still good. I checked her mileage and she gets 53.6 mpg for the last 5,500 miles. Also her tank was empty, so I filled it. It took 511 miles to empty it, and it only cost $25 ($2.72) to fill it. But she doesn't care about all that. She likes the Blue-Tooth, Key-less entry, 500 watt DSP sound system and the smooth quite ride.

  • I have a 2008 Honda Fit and I love it.

  • Right there with you, 1robeyfan. I have an 08 Fit, and it is FANTASTIC! Great fun to drive. And what terrific carrying capacity. I have the 5 speed, and I'm certain its exceleration and braking are better than they claim. It takes off like a shot. I've accidentally "chirped" a few times in taking off too fast.

  • Great comment shipwreck52. Honda's are the only cars for me.

  • they're both good economy car but let's face it , you have to drive the prius for a while to make it worth it and normally people just drive it until they finish paying off the loan then get a new one, i'm one of those people but i put many miles on the car so i can't lease it and i dont even know if they lease these out so i bought a 2009 fit

  • The Fit has more cargo space than the Prius!?

  • yes

  • I believe it does. I just bought a 2009 and it's really due to how the rear seats fold down flush to the rest of the cargo deck. I fit an amazing amount of gear in the back of the Fit and I have no doubt it holds more than a Prius.

  • As a new owner of the Honda Fit, it is THE BEST on Gas! I only pay anywhere between $17.50-$18.70 to fill up. And that if the gas light comes on! And thats at $2.09 a gallon! I LOVE my Fit! It lives up to it's name. I can whip it into to practically any kind of parking lot. It's soo easy. Perfect for first time drivers or experienced ones.

  • See I am considering buying the Fit over the Prius, lets face it, I don't want to have to buy an expensive new battery ever 2-3 years, I need the cargo room, and the hybrid tech is unproven as it has only been around for a few years. I think I stick with good old american gas motors

  • hahaha really do u think ur gonna need to by a battery that much do u know the prius has been around since 98 and there has been no reports of battery changes yet

  • Every 2 years?? I know a someone who is a taxi driver and has put 300,000 on his in 2 years and doesn't need a new battery

  • lets just say this race would take days

  • Fit, Versa, Yaris whatever... All the cheapest cars you can buy. No features, No safety, No nothing. If you were really smart you would take the money that you would spent on a brand new Fit ($15,000) and go buy a pre owned Civic or Accord for the same price or less. Or if you really want to be the cheapest person on the road, then go buy a Tata Nano next month. The Nano gets 55.5mpg and only cost $2,050! The Prius is not a cheap car, it has the most features and options ever put in a small car.

  • you can have the features of the prius same onto a fit and still it costs cheaper, but no hybrid.. hybrids are junk.. and if you have money.. why would you buy a prius?? what your so poor you can't put gas in your tank?

  • "the features of prius same into a fit"

"still cost cheaper, but on hybrid"

OMG kid, go back to school!

  • "OMG" kid go back to school..? are you just that retarded? School is what makes you rich!

  • "the features of prius same into a fit"

"still cost cheaper, but on hybrid"

  • Maybe I should paraphrase this so you could understand, or if you could understand.. You can get the same features that are included in a Toyota Prius, Instead by buying a fit. It would still be cheaper, and has almost the same fuel economy. Since it's not a hybrid, the fit is not as gay a prius would be.. If you can't understand this, then you know you have a problem with yourself..

  • well you need to take some special class? Did you just learn to read english or something?

  • Why are you asking me? You wrote it.

  • I don't know that this review is so stupid, severley moronic review, idiotic evaluation, and retard. What else?

  • Fit Rules Prius is way too gay...hehhehe

  • FIT rules Prius is way too gay

  • this review is another misinformation session about the Prius.I have a Prius and I don't pay high insurance! I pay about the same amount as a car of the same class like an Accord. I also get benefits like hybrid only parking and a registration concessions. The Fit is as slow as the Prius. My dad has a Fit. This Fit and Prius comparrison is idiotic. The Fit feels like a plastic kids cart compared to the Prius. The Prius is a hatchback but it's got as much boot and people space as a large sedan.

  • the full-coverage insurance would be higher on any car that costs more because it will cost more to replace it if you wreck it

the prius costs alot more than the fit , but about the same as an accord , so you would pay more for insurance for a prius/accord than a fit

  • actually, hybrids have cheaper insurance then non-hybrids.

  • insurance companies charge our rates based on

    1. what it would cost to fix our car (more expensive cars cost more to fix)

    2. their safety features

hybrids cost more and dont come with any more safety options than the gas version of the same car

call your insurance company and ask for a quote on a camry and a camry hybrid

  • ok, so the 2005 saturn i bought new and cost less then my hybrid had a higher rate then what my hybrid costs. When I asked why they told my hybrids have a lesser rate. Thats all I can tell you. However, this is in Canada.

  • i called my insurance company about them a few months back and they told me its based on replacement cost and safety features primarily , so if the cars are equal in the safety categories they would go by replacement costs..but thats here in the u.s..there are alot of other factors they said went into it to as far as how much damage the car will cause to another vehiclen in an accident..but id guess a hybrid owner would prob be a safer driver , and they may just do things diff there lik you said

  • haha...i just read the "more info" for the video here that describes the video and it actually says the insurance would be higher for the prius than the fit

maybe it would have helped me to actually read it before we went back and forth...haha...have a good one!

  • prius the new slug bug lol. prius owners are idiots and shouldve destroy it or hippies who are fuel consious and bored slow pokes. FIT fits everywhere with peoplr, racers, ricers, and people

  • These reviews are so fuckin stupid that it even compels idiots to come here, watch it and agree with it without giving some thought. I could have bought a more 'economical' car like a Fit (or 'pfft'), but I didn't want to be bored out of my asshole with a petrol engine energy wasting heat bucket. My old Prius now is fully electric and is one of the fastest cars in town. It shames little boys like you driving in a Fit faggot box. You look like fuckin broke Spaniards in it and never get any pussy.

  • i could of sworn i've fucked my girlfriend in the 12 cubic feet backseat many times....

  • You must be driving in a pretty slow town, cause the prius just as slow as the fit, and its heavier, not to mention with the battery. Since you mention your car is fully electric, you must have put in more batteries in your car, causing it to be extremely heavy. Plus, the prius is uglier than the fit :P

  • I own a 07 Fit Sport. Gas mileage all depends on your foot. If I go easy and doing interstate driving then I usually get around 42 MPG with 42.7 MPG being my best. Casual driving around common roads usually get me around 36 to 37 MPG. If I drive it like a formula car then my mileage will drop into the lower 30's. Its really fun to drive on twisty roads, it sticks like glue, so sometimes you forget about trying to get good mileage, but overall its a great little car, that has some fun built in.

  • i usually get 35mpg in my fit, it's stick though

  • FIT FIT FIT FIT !!! WOOOOOTTT!!!!!

  • AND the fit, when you say scratch fuel economy, is SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE.

I have the 09 sport model, and it is AMAZING. And it was supposed to be duller than the previous generation (from 03-08, I believe).

  • I could answer that question. I own a 09 Fit, avg according to the epa gauge, 41 mpg hwy, 34 mpg street. With a current fill-up of, $18. 400 miles, on one tank. Love the car! Prius what!

  • The Fit is just one of the many cheap cars. Its up against the Versa, Uris, Aveo and many more that start around $10k. While the Prius isn't a cheap car at all. It has features in it that even the best Accord doesn't even have.If you go off of what they are saying why stop there.Go buy and old Sentra with $2k cast and still get 30mpg.I wanted my wife to have all the safety & tech toys of $40k car in a small $28k car all while getting 56.4mpg. 15 days ago she filled it up $16.50 548 miles. What!

  • Dude the car I own is a 2006 RL, and I have owned 3 TLs in the past. So I know a little bit about Honda. Toyota is by far the best. Honda is #2 and then everything else follows. If I could have one car in this world that would be given to me and not want to sell it... It would be an LS 460h. I own the best Honda (Acura) has to offer yet dream about the LS.

  • put both the cars in a drag race it would be funny

  • These are videos that I like! haha Cool beans. You don't see stuff like that often.. haha sarcasm! Make more please! (=

  • "GOSH HOW f*&^IN IDIOTS YOU CAN BE.. "

HAHAHA thanks hippie, now i wont even have to call you stupid.

  • Haha this is why youtube is so damn interesting. it can keep me entertained for hours and hours! haha It's so entertaining

  • honda wins again

  • SWEET! Honda FTW! (As Usual)

  • I knew it. Fit FTW !!!

  • Edmunds forgot the mention:

    1. Prius is consider a mid-sized sedan as it is a hatchback with about the same interior space as the Camry, Fusion, Impala, Accord etc... Fit is a compact car, in par with Civic, Focus.

    2. My mom 2003 Prius hit 134,000 miles with no problem with the battery. Where did they get the info that the battery needs replacement after it hits 100K?

  • 1) The fit still has more interior room. That Prius battery isn't small.

    2) That was obviously not meant to be an extremely accurate measurement. But it is true - batteries lose their ability to hold charge over time, and at some point in the car's life, it WILL need to be replaced for big bucks. If you drive mostly on the freeway, you'll never use it (but you'll still waste gas lugging it around). If you drive in town, it will discharge/recharge often and will need to be replaced sooner.

  • haha. go to the toyota website and click on the 3rd gen prius icon and see for yourself.

its obvious that you dont know anything about the prius. in australia, throughout the 8 years of the prius being here and of the 12000 priuses here, only 2 known cases of battery replacement has been known. they were both taxis, with one which has driven over 330000kms/year and the other over 500000kms/year. you have your theory, but what i said is the truth. and define what you mean by "small".

  • 2 Million Priuses have been sold. The 12,000 in Australia are insignificant with respect to the total. If you honestly believe that the batteries will last forever, then you know nothing about chemistry. ALL rechargeable batteries, no matter their composition, lose ability to hold charge over time. Conditions and care make some last longer than others, but it WILL eventually have to be replaced. It's not theory, it's scientific and chemical fact.

  • 28 mpg for the fit?

I have the same car, and the lowest i've gotten is 28. I average about 35mpg, and I'm not the most efficient driver.

  • After 18,000 miles, my manual trans. Fit is averaging 37.87 MPG over the car's life, but unlike so many impatient drivers, I'm never in a hurry to get to a red light.

  • i think i would have taken the prius

  • the next prius, as shown in the official toyota teasers, will have 3 modes, an eco mode for maximum fuel efficiency, a power mode for more of a sports feeling and the 3rd is unknown. sounds cool

  • Sounds pricey too.

  • The third mode is "Ego Mode" for maximum driver smugness.

How the hell will a car with a 1.5L petrol engine lugging around a 500 lb battery rolling on very narrow, hard compound tires have a sport mode?

  • haha, again your wrong. the prius's battery weighs 53.3kgs which translate to 117.5ibs. again, youre just showing that you have no knowledge. and the 3rd gen prius's engine is a 1.8l.

the 3 modes are EV, Power and Eco. and to remind you, the 98hp insight has a sport mode. wrong again. even a 0.1hp can have a sport mode, its just a matter of adjusting throttle responsiveness. youre wrong again.

  • 500 lbs was an obvious exaggeration. The 3rd generation may have a 1.8L, but the CURRENT model - the model discussed in this video - has a 1.5L. I know what the modes are, and I know what a sport mode is. In cheap cars, it's usually just different shift points. The Fit is much lighter and sportier than the Prius, but they are both still horribly boring and slow. Obviously any car can have a "sport mode," it just seems out of character on a car (incorrectly) labeled as the savior of the Earth.

  • a sports mode on a modern toyota is like telling Bach to use a distortion pedal.

okay, that's a terrible example, but you get my point...toyotas handle like toasters.

  • Civic already did! lol

  • and dont forget the already V8-like torque this current prius already produces. there should be even more torque on that next prius

  • while your screen name is "serious," i will assume that this post is not.

  • well they tested the prius here and they got 10.1 secs. same goes with all the other videos and reviews i've watched. you got the 13secs from top gear? cause jeremy clarkson hates the prius, without any apparent reason (look at how he destroyed a 1st gen prius lol).

the next gen prius is expected to have a 1.8l engine with a more powerful motor and an evelutionary system doing 150-160 horses from today's 110 while boosting economy to 55-60mpg. dunno how theyll do that but it sounds exciting

  • His reason is that it's ugly, slow, heavy, uncomfortable, and accomplishes nothing. The hype behind this average car is astounding. It still runs on gas, just like everything else. When we run out, it'll be sitting at the side of the road like everyone else. And electric cars accomplish nothing, because every 100 miles, you have to wait 16 hours to recharge. Hydrogen power is where it's at - you can fill up just like with gasoline, and it's the most abundant element in the universe.

  • again, take a look at the 3rd gen prius and see for yourself. and this goes for every car; dont complain about it when you dont even know much about it.

  • As much as I would love to sit and speculate about a car that's not yet released, this video is about the current model Prius. Stick to the topic at hand. I don't know how you can say the Prius has as much torque as a V8 - have you ever driven any decent car with a V8? The Prius is unbelievably far from being powerful or fast.

  • well it again proves that you dont know much. the motor provides 400nm of torque from 0rpm. combined, peak torque is 478nm. the V10 lambo gallardo has 510nm. that v10 torque aint a lot more. in fact, if it was just a test of raw engine (and motor) power ignoring the transmission, drivetrain, crappy suspension, tyres, drivetrain etc which lead to a slower car, the prius, can in fact, in theory, outrun a gallardo from 0-22km/h, largely thanks to the motor.

  • A person can exert a couple hundred ft/lbs of torque with a nice long wrench, but try spinning that wrench around at 4,000rpm while exerting the same load and that is what a car engine is doing. As you can imagine, the engine exerting that torque at high speed can launch a car a lot faster than a person can. The electric motor is more like the person. It can sit there exerting 300ft/lbs, but as soon as the wrench starts to turn faster, it can't keep up that same load.

  • well of course, the motor is for low rpm and speeds. thats why the engines there-to power the car at higher rpms (not saying that the motor produces no power at higher rpms too).

of course it doesnt! the tyres are designed for maximum efficiency-thats the whole point of the prius. i was just giving you an idea of the potential of the prius's motor off the line.

however, the prius is actually quite quick when you consider its intended purpose, which is to drink less.

  • A Prius will not beat any kind of fast car to any speed, even 14 mph. The Prius may make 300ft/lbs of torque, but it is at very low engine speed. Horsepower (work an engine can do) = (torque X RPM)/5252.

Also, a Prius doesn't even have enough rubber under it to accelerate as fast as a Gallardo or Enzo. An Enzo lights up its sticky 335mm tires under acceleration. A Prius won't even chirp its low rolling resistance FWD tires.

  • its mid range acceleration (around the 35-90km/h speeds which is critical for overtaking) is particularly impressive and it is comparable to other 4 cylinder midsize cars like the camry. its CVT transmission also delivers the power very quickly and smoothly, which will further aid the car in overtaking. and this all is considering the now outdated 2nd gen prius. toyota have have stated that for the 3rd gen, peak torque is sustained for much longer into higher rpms. combined with the 1.8l,

  • its mid and high end acceleration will be even further improved. and amazingly, thats all achieved while drinking even less fuel.

again, the prius is not an economy car, not a sports car, so of course it wont win any drag races with a bugatti veyron lol. but the acceleration is quite impressive for a car which does 4.4l/km. at certain speeds (mid range in particular) it can be compared to other 4 cylinder midsize cars. the 3rd gen will be even faster while being even more fuel efficient.

  • well maybe you should realise that its time for us to change the topic at hand. if we ignore the advancing vehicle industry and stick to an outdated topic, we'll find that the topic will be outdated or useless very soon and people will no longer rely on this topic to choose their next car, simply because its outdated. its the basic nature of everything. in darwins theory for eg, we have to adapt to survive.

  • This isn't a Technology for Tomorrow forum. This is a simple youtube video comparing the CURRENT generation Prius, and the current generation Fit. And that's what needs to be discussed here, on this page. Obviously, if someone wants to hear about the third generation prius, they aren't going to look at a video of the second gen. If you start comparing a car that hasn't yet been released, you leaving the topic at hand, which is (again, for emphasis) the second generation prius vs. the honda fit.

  • well, maybe its time to wake up. the next prius is out in 3 months time. thats why we should start discussing it. as for this, there is no reason why the third gen prius cannot be discussed, again, flexibility is essential. simply because the video is about the 2nd prius of the past (look at the date), it cannot stop people from looking at the present or future, which is the 3rd prius. if we dont start changing updating ourselves now, we will soon find outselves discussing things that arent even

  • valid. if you want to stick yourself to the past back at august 2008, fine, by all means do so. but times have changed. things are moving on and youll still be stuck in the past and sooner or later, youll find yourself as the only one still looking at the 2nd prius when everyone is on the 3rd. again, this video was made in the past for its own time, which is the past. times have changed and things are no longer what they used to be. this video no longer suits our time and our situation and to

  • refer to it now is to refer to things that have already past. the 2nd prius has already past and soon itll be pointless to talk about it. thats why we need to change-the 3rd prius is here, this video is no longer "valid" for our times.

  • just for a wake up call again, the 2010 prius is already the present. it has already been unveiled and will be at dealers in around 3 months time. this video has had its time-2nd prius is no longer the for the present.

  • I don't think you're understanding me. This page shows two specific models. Those are the cars that need to be discussed here. If this video was of a 69 mustang, would you talk about the new ones? No, because it's not the topic at hand. Yes, people should talk about the 3rd gen Prius. But it's better to do that on pages already dedicated to that version of the car. If someone wanted to know about the 3rd Prius, they would watch a video about it, not the 2nd. That's where the comments need to be.

  • alright, keeping it simple. this video is outdated. in our current time, the right conversation should be about the 3rd gen prius. im not going to talk about things that have past. i, as we should, will talk about present issues rather than old issues weve already dealt with.

  • Toyota lies about acceleration as well as about fuel economy. It's actually a problem for Prius to go from 0 to 60 in 13 seconds.

But who cares about acceleration difference? It's so tiny that you don't even notice and both are slow, they're certainly not good for racing.

  • and the new honda insight will theoretically use the same drivetrain of the old civic hybrid. it will be less fuel efficient and slower, maybe quite a bit slower than the 2010 prius, which is going to be much sportier and more fuel efficient with even more interior space.

  • They also double as rolling coffins when they get crushed under the wheels of a tractor trailer.

  • hahaha what? Do you have experience with this? What car WOULDN'T be crushed under a tractor trailer?

  • HONDA Fit FTW!

  • emforty2 you are right about the japan release date, but not the us date. When the prius was released in the us we couldnt give them away. First of all they were about 20k bucks and people were worried about the technology. Even when the us gov gave tax brakes with the purchase of a hybrid of I beleive starting at 2500 dollars people didnt buy them and then there is the looks that people were not ready for.

  • My mostly highway driving average is 38mpg on my Fit Sport. Have gotten well into the 40s for interstate. Save your money and get a Fit. It's ok to be a little different than the crowd.

  • They should give the fit sport a sunroof and 4 disc brakes

  • you must be lieing because highway mileage is always better than interstate. and city is the worse.

  • They should have tested the Manual Tranny. I get about 33 mpg in my '07 Fit and I can go 0-60 in close to 8 seconds. Plus it costs like $1500 less. REALLY beats the Prius.

  • HONDA POWER

  • a new gen prius is coming in april 2009 as the 2010 model

  • A new HONDA Insight is coming out in spring 2009 which will cost less than the Prius.

  • da honda commercial that i just saw on TV does not look like this car at all...

  • sorry, wrong video...

  • not to mention that the honda fit 2010 plans to be a hybrid car... so if you really want to hug some tree, you can always trade in your 09 fit for a 2010 fit and pay a couple thousand more.

  • wtf? How do you get 28 mpg with a Fit? I own a Fit and I average 38 mpg with all city driving. I even TRIED to get bad gas mileage by basically beating on my car for a full tank and still got 29 mpg. BTW...no hypermilling...just driving

  • are you serious?! thats awesome man. im getting mine on friday. im excited now. fuck the prius lol

  • i think ya did ur math wrong, cause epa estimate is 28 MPG city, 35 HIGHWAY...

city driving involves more stopping at red lights so u will get less gas mileage as ur sitting at a stop light or stop sign...

plus city speed limits are around 35 miles...

    so how r u getting 38MPG city?

  • 2 heavy weights goin at it!

  • why can't GM make better cars than this ?

not some overhyped far off future untested unproven $40K Chevy Volt technology

Toyota came out with the Prius hybrid in 1997[in japan/2003 in the USA] w/o any announcement and that was when a gallon of gas was around $1.29

is Toyota really gonna overtake GM as the #1 car maker?

  • If GM ever had #1 car manufactuer i never knew it cuz far as ive known Honda and toyota have been #1 and 2 for a long time

  • I drove both, "personaly" The Fit sport is way more worth it because of its paddle shifters and its light weight making it great fun for ebrake slides =D.

  • ebrake slides are for silly ricer boys who think they can drive

  • as are paddle shifters.

  • both cars are slower than shit, ill keep my supercharged cavalier,300hp and 33 miles per gallon.u.s.a. all the way.
