@kidspic C'mon son u make it sound as if his career was over after Illmatic, while joints like Memory Lane, The World Is Yours nd It Ain't Hard To Tell r top notch lyrically, imo It Was Written is a better album than Illmatic, to me Illmatic was like that raw uncut stone, fresh out the earth, while It Was Written is that cut nd polished stone in the Tiffanys glass case, both are diamonds just that 1 looks better
@RelaxednCaIm It's 1 of those conformist viewpoints in HipHop homie, some people make it sound like blasphamy to say any other HipHop album is better than Illmatic, well I believe that IWW is a better album, nd also a classic, press PLAY type shit, Deja vu nd Street Dreams (remix) on IWW, yeah maybe then they would recgognize what we already know
yeah, and if you take all the good joints on i am(undying love, small world, ny 2, ghetto prisoners, nas is like, favor for a favor, we will survive, hate me now) and add the unrealeased shit(blaze a 50, fetus, drunk by myself, u gotta love it, project windows, amongst kingsetc) it a better overall album then illmatic. same with stillmatic.
@RelaxednCaIm thats saying it was written is better than illmatic which would never happen and i know both albums word for word and i also have the original I am nastradamus tracklist the bootleg version which is classic but no album in rap touches illmatic
pac was the realeast from the heart and soul type of street muthafucka, down 2 die for wat he believed in and nas is lyrically the greatest, they have differences but they both great in different ways.. leave it at that.
Look 2pac was revolutioner big man with big heart ready to die for street he chenged the black americans mutch respect for him we all have respect for him + he was killed thet make him legend and thets the reason why he is over rated (DEEP INSIDE WE ALL KNOW THET BUT WE DONT LIKE THE TURE I DONT)
@inputbroos113 uhh tupac was already a legend before he died. take a look of his album sells (guinness books of world records) what he been through just to open the eyes of the community. He wanted to start a revolution. His music touched millions thats why untill this day you hear people still talking about tupac as if he was alive today.
@wavez9 U killed your argument bringing record sales into the equation, rec sales holds no water, all it says is you're POP-U- LAR, the mainstream now knows who u are, , Diddy, Nelly, Hammer, even Vanilla Ice, do u consider them dudes greats, it's like KRS said "mcs are just hopeless thinking record sales make them the dopest" the problem is Hip Hop fans have now adapted that mindset, nd fyi Pac not only sold a majority of those albums posthumously but also alot due to drama outside the boothe
@shonha1 He still sold over 40 million while he was alive (in 4 to 5 yrs). If I'm not mistaking his last album sold around 20 mil world wide. Regardless I agree that record sales do not make someone great, impact and talent does. Nas is lyrically superior to pac but pac's message and song writing definitely puts him in that class of elites (along with nas and others).
@fmcneillii Yeah he sold some records, but not at the clip he did after all the drama started in his career, remember now Suge was who bailed him out of jail b/c Pac didn't have the money, look, the he's a 1st ballot hall of famer in my book, but had he lived his legacy would be completely different than it is today,
@shonha1 actually pac did hav the money to get out ov jail but he just used it to pay legal fees cuz he had cases up the ass. b4 all the drama wit big started pac had 3platinum albums( including me against the world wich went 3Xplatinum while was in jail) under his belt and was nominated for an image award, starred in critically acclaim movies, so pac had never reached his peak he was just elevating more and more by early '96 he had 30mil albums sold.
@kids pics I'm not saying Pac didn't sell records, and whether he had the $s, or not I still say his sales and his legacy would've been way different minus the drama and his death, look controversy sells, Madonna's career and fortune was built by stirring up controversy, and I'm not saying Pac intentionally used controversy like she did b/c I think he just lost his way especially after he got shot and joined Death Row, but by the same token, it is factor in the way he is now viewed
@shonha1 It just the same with public enemy and run dmc they weren't lyrical on the level of a nas but still are greats. Don't get me wrong they are all still great lyricists even though nas is on another level.
Lyrically... Nas is a better rapper than Tupac... But I don't think Nas can quite capture a story or the pain in someone's life and translate it into a song like Pac could. Pac was more in touch with how to verbalize and express a real life situation and make it believable on a song... But Nas has a better vocabulary and wordplay skill than Pac.
Yeah, but take this- this is acctually a diss towards biggie, there are alot of sumbliminal messages cussing him. So compare this to Tupac's 'Hit em up'- do you think there was any subliminal messaging in there? no. Pac came straight out and dissed biggie, mentioning his name- theres the difference.
anyone know if you can do a radio quality mastering with computer software. like obviously there will be different opinions and quality standards held but this is just me thinking the trend is going towards being able to do the whole piece start to finish in one place.
is it a question of trained ears and colossal gear in a mastering location? where do people see that in the future?
@keenan871 Thats irrelevant. Really it's the quality of the ARTIST and not the equipment. All you need is a boom pap and a melody, and a dope Black Mc.
it amazes me how Nas can make songs where he's the coolest guy ever, and then songs where he's ruthless and has his finger on the trigger. and sound totally believable at both.
This was supposed to be a diss to jay z and nas was going to put it on the radio and they refused to play it cuz they were taking sides with jay, good thing they didn't cuz this was harder than all the diss tracks they made, jay would have got cleaned up real good,he would totally destroyed jay.
yeah, but then they started playing it when jay-z refused to do summer jam that one year, so they made nas headliner and started playing all his tracks.
nice...thank you. i have been quoting this song for years and still didn't know that's what he said right there. your ear is definitely to the street...
np. there's a lot of stuff i had to check for too. and the start is actually "nasir ben olu dara, bis du allah" which that last part is "son of god" ie god'son. which i think is sick that the guy can even rhyme in arabic!
Im still trying to rap my mind around the fact that these were all throw away songs on the "Lost tapes" This is why I say nas is the best rapper ever this is material that he deemed no worthy to use for one of his actually albums and it still turns out to be a classic well at least in my eyes..Un fucking believable!
That shit wasn't subliminal homie "The Jig is up (Jiggas up)", "U older than most dudes although Nas did u nd u whole crew", "Let the shottie off on club floors pellets play yur (Familia) u screamin like u luv war", believe it, Jay knew sun was talkin to him.
Yeah After I heard this song, I knew Nas had finally closed the book on Jay, it was over after the first line "Sign up the first rapper that should be murdered for rhyming then 'Jiggas' up, Gut em like fish, swiss cheesed him up"
@zysano1 Nobosy said Pac could fuck with Nas lyrically and why are 25 dickheads agreeing with you that Pac is overrated? Pac had 3 classic albums(Me Against the World, All Eyes on Me and Makaveli) and when he assumed his Makaveli persona NOBODY could fuck with his raw emotion that he put into his songs. "They say Moses split the red sea, I split the blunt and rolled a fat one i'm deadly! " Pac couldn't do what Nas could but Nas could do what Makaveli did!
Nas is great, but since when is music a competition? 2Pac WAS great lyrically, he was a poet and he rapped about a plethora of subjects. Look up 'Hellrazor' , matter of fact look up any 2Pac song that wasn't on the radio..... Nas is unreal, one of the best--- but so was Pac , look up the shit Pac did with thuglife before he got signed, he was ALWAYS a beast on the mic. So was Nas. PROPS TO HIP HOP. - Thumbs up if u agree
