I was on the first plane to arrive at Heathrow last year from New York on about 23rd September (which in turn was from Nashville - you can't get a direct flight). We had to circle a few times to kill time, because the pilot said that planes are not allowed to land before 6:00am! I didn't know that.
@250Trojan This was between 5-6am. The first Flight is scheduled to land at 4:50am (BAW12 from Singapore). There are no departures before 6:00am. You most likely got put in a Hold due to Traffic congestion on the Approach.
@HeathrowSpottingHD I can understand no depatures before 6.00am because it's so unbelievably noisy when they take off (this is coming from somene who doesn;t see planes very often, so Heathrow is pretty amazing when arriving there on the perimiter road).
But the pilot did say there were no landings before 6.00am and he did say we were the first to land (at about 6.05am) and other planes were circling behind us (he pointed them out through the windows).
I can remember one weekend seeing the last plane land one night and being back there in the freezing cold to see the early morning arrivals These days I am lucky to fly to Bangkok every year and I always get to LHR a few hours early and watch the heavy metal come in over Hatton Cross. It's a great free hobby and only the travelling was a pain. My favourite spot was seeing them take from the perimiter road near Bath Road, used to get goose bumps. Thanks for the video. Great quality and action.
I stayed in a Hotel in London earlier this year, I was right under the approach path, I timed 1min 20 secs between aircraft, a constant stream of heavies! Was great to watch! nice vid!
90% of early morning arrivals are heavy jets completing it's transcontinental flights. Pretty neat for most airlines to arrange their flight to make passengers get up just in time to reach their destination.
Very nice video, sharp and well lit footage - one thing I would say is I don't agree that the police hate enthusiasts at LHR - I've never had any trouble from them at all - they do ask that people stay away from the perimeter fences but other than that they don't seem to mind at all, and in my experience they seem very accommodating.
@tjf4375 Thanks! Well you obviously haven't spent the amount of time over Heathrow I have to realise it. Not saying every single Officer does dislike us but most do as they think we're a danger to security.
@FarnboroughTAXI Terminal? This was shot from the Heathrow Academy Car Park which I don't really recommend. For 27R Arrivals like here I suggest parking where I'm stood (Around 2 pounds for a couple of hours) then walk down the perimeter fence to the roundabout. The Aircraft will fly over head or you can walk a little more for some side shots. Cheers
Great video, I like how clear the early morning filming is. Does your camera have CMOS sensor? Also, have you done any filming from the top of the car parks at all?
@photopuppet Thanks. Yeah it does, just got my new camera which has CMOS R. It will autofocus better to lights in low light conditions. Shooting for my next Early Morning Arrivals video which will be 10x professionally filmed and produced. Nope as to stay you have to get lucky due to Police basically hate spotters at LHR.
a great video! i am a woman and i love planes and flying!! feel safer in the air than on the ground! i always ask for a window seat like to be close to the action, escpesially take-offs and departures! british airlines are great
@HeathrowSpottingHD not every technical fault is recorded on the flight computer especially lights!, after every flight the engineers will turn on anti-cols, strobes, taxi and landing lights do a walk round and find out that way, i see it day in day out, worse of a night when its unexpected and they switch em on a nd boy of the landing lights bright! :D
I live on the south coast and where i used to live in Emsworth Near Portsmouth, sometimes in the morning aroud 5-6am you can hear the big jets coming in on the approach to Gatwick/Heathrow. And on some clear nights in the summer u can see them flying over on the approach
@RichL2009 Yep, it's honestly the best time to go, 5am-1am is normaly the peak times but at LHR if you want to go see the A380s in the evening SQ,EK both land around 7pm and takeoff at 9-10pm and everyother day the QF dosent take of untill 10pm two!
Nice footage, I love early morning arrivals! I didn't know BR now fle the 777 to LHR. On the 2nd aircraft it seems as if the starboard landing lights are not working
@Vaulner Nope Myrtle Ave is 27L which is more outside the airport, this is filmed by the Marriot Hotel or if you no heathrow for a couple years the ' Visitors Centre '
@HeathrowSpottingHD I haven't gone to Heathrow, I expect to go soon to do some spotting, I have heard that Myrtle Ave is very accesible, so I suppose that I will go there. Thanks for your help
I remember you said that normally your mum comes down with you? Must have had a hard time convincing her :P I want to go spot sometime at heathrow, and like you I live real close, like 30 minutes drive away.
@Guydabest Yeah otherwise it's a bus with something 1,000£+ of equipment when i take my macbook so. Nope asked and she was asleep in the car hehe, nah in the morning it took 10 usally 15.
@Guydabest Had all the arrivals on word and my printer screwed up and i wanted to no what was coming in so early :)
umm cliped it to my hoody like at the top so right next to my mic. wish i could plug it in but sadly my camera dosent have any ports.. only HDMI and to connect to computer =/
It's always early in the morning that a lot of big planes come to land at Heathrow. Sometimes I've woken up at like 6AM and looked out my window, and seen about 10 747's landing in a row, sadly I wont be waking up at about 6AM for a long while, as I'm a teen and can only get up at about 9:30AM, no earlier, it's to do with puberty and teenagers body clocks being reset at about this time.
Don't think I have seen it that late before either. I may just make it over, kindly been given a day off and could do with a bit of spotting, been a while.
@BringEllisTheHoriZon Nope, when i do my timelpase it will put it up against the approach lights of a runway. Thanks yeah getting to no it a bit more ;)
