  • You also forgot to mention what effect halon has on humans.

  • In Germany Halon was Banned too long time ago... Halon is effective, but it´s very badly for the ozone layer

  • @lemsipGY Its illegal in the US

  • @tatetalk No its not

  • @Pilot135R Alright my bad, that was a fault on my instructor.

  • Bring back halon! It saves lives!

It's extremely effective, even in small amounts.

  • It can take lives too...be in the presence of disperced halon for too long, youre a dead man. (or woman)

  • That's a myth produced by the environmentalists. At extinguishing concentrations it's much safer than CO2, which will actually asphyxiate you. Halotron is also much more toxic.

Just air out the space, and don't smoke, that increases toxicity. As for the ozone layer, nobody will frivolously set off a halon extinguisher anyway, and I'll gladly use a little sunscreen if it can save a few lives.

  • @Tabby266 Halon can be breathed for a little bit at first. It just might feel like you're in high mountains but yes you can turn white and become asphyxiated and eventually go unconcious. it's also been known to cause you the worst ear infection you will ever have in your life. i also wonder what the cure is! :)

  • in the uk halon has been banned for years due to the cfc's. Its still available to aircraft and military uses though.

  • Its been banned in the US too but we still have a few Halons on our ship.

  • I hope professional fire fighters are still allowed to use these.

  • It is illegal here I'm pretty sure. This are without a doubt the best " one person could fight and win against a huge fire indoors" . If someone out there knows a lot about these I would like to hear from you. I have an alternate use for this stuff, that could make several persons very rich.

  • Call amerx they could tell you.

  • Montreal protocol was taken up by 150 countries. Halon is no longer manufactured, it is collected, recycled and kept in 'halon banks' for servicing and recharging extinguishers in 'approved' applications. If you have a halon extinguisher it is probably dangerous because it would have not been serviced for at least 12 years, unless of course it is an approved aviation, maritime or military application. Return it to your local fire department, they will ask no questions and send it to be recycled.

  • Heck no, sell it on eBay. They are worth between $50 and $200 each.

  • As far as i know Halon has fallen out of favour since it's banned. Montreal protocol says that all use of halon extinguishers is banned.

  • thats not good enough..it needs to be in the center of the green to be good..thats like a risky chance that it may work (or may not)

  • it is hard to see it but it is in the green you need to look realy close

  • the gauge isn't in the green:(
