Such power! I just can't stop loving this voice. I love those deep low tones and I bet those top notes blew everyones hair back. People were holding on to their chairs not to be blown out of the building! hahaha!
I love Ms. Marton in some roles, but based on this particular performance, this is not one of those roles. Compared to what she is capable of, this is just a mess. Her timing seems insecure, I'm not as impressed as some with her chest voice (heavy shouldn't have to mean forced) and the scooping is inexcusable.
What a magnificent voice - from top to bottom!!! She sings this very well. BTW, oprah22, anyone would start to wobble pushing the chest voice like that. I doubt this aria is good for anyone's voice.
I think this is a wonderful interpretation, she knows just when and how to use the chest, it's difficult to say who's best at this as Callas, Souliotis, Dimitrova all bring different aspects!
Τhen hear Maria Callas - "Suicidio, La Gioconda - Original..." (attention because there is another rendition with Callas from 1974, which is very bad), Rosa Ponselle and Elena Souliotis.
Not the best Italian and the vibrato is quite loose but I loved her! Marton had the right voice and attitude for the role and I bet she would have shocked me even more in the theatre.
Why, why my darlings, why some of you must always mention Callas's name?! Get on with the life! Marton's Gioconda is SENSATIONAL, she's able to communicate thousands of sensations, why we can't just appreciate a great moment like this without the urge to make always comparison with this or with that?! Then who's better is something PERSONAL, not an universal truth. Thanks Eva, you are my Gioconda! Brava!

you need a chest voice like a baritone to sing this song

I think' it's impressive too. IMHO the best rendition of Suicidio I've heard yet ( been searching around in YouTube )

IMHO these three are the best.
Of course Eva Marton is also impressive.

Sorry, I wanted to say do not listen "Suicidio, La Gioconda - Original...", but the one titled simply "Maria Callas". It was my mistake.

Bad italian, but a good interpretation!

her phrasing takes so long...but a good Gioconda none the less

Awsome. I have long been glued to Callas for this aria, but this is excellent. Where is the due applause?

Check out Elena Suliotis singing this aria. Just amazing!

because even callas with her broken voice still was sensational that tour even in her vocal condition made her a house name ....and also her Tosca
