If you really are an engineer (or conductor), how do you get the footage off of the camera? Isn't only retrievable in case of a crash or when you have to take it out and open it up? Was it easy to get this?

Anyways to respond to an earlier post, yeah you could jump if you see a crash coming but there's risk- you gotta jump 5+ feet and usually moving at 35mph or so with a chance of breaking your legs, most engineers/conductors are overweight so... I'm skinny and athletic. ;)

Just to point out, he didn't say there was going to be a crash, he got all of us by saying Crash Cam. My question is: how do you know if you are approaching a crossing? From what I can tell, It's very hard to see them from the cab's perspective judging from your's and other's videos. Are there signs on the side of the railroad?

many railroads have "whistle posts" which are generally signs on the right hand sign with a W in the center
