I'm very curious. Are people who can solve puzzles like this or even the 3x3x3 Rubik's cube generally smarter, like they have higher IQ? It seems to make sense to think these people are good at math, for instance, because they see many moves ahead like people who play chess. It's kind of fascinating to see it happening. I would love to have such abilities. I can't even solve one side--but then again, I'm leaning towards "dumb" and my memory stinks. :(

It isn't that learning how to solve a rubiks cube makes you smarter, but smarter people might tend to want to learn how to solve them. It doesn't really take skill or brains to solve it, just simply memorizing the sequences from a book and practicing alot are all one needs to solve it.

this is a VERY good question. and i wish i had the answer haha. i play an instrument (guitar) and im able to so far solve the 3x3x3 Rubiks cube and the 4x4x4 (because those are the only ones i put my mind to so far). and the reason why i said i play an instrument, is because that usually help with a lot of things like numbers, memorization and other things, so maybe it all comes together that way? and honestly, im not THAT good at math so the whole math thing i dont think is true...

Jonas223XC is correct up to a point. Most people will learn how to solve the 3 by 3 from a solution. However, i find that once you know its solution the fun is working out how to apply it to the larger cubes...if i could afford a 7 by 7 I would probably spend hours working out the solution. I apply a basic principle...to solve the cube turn into a 3by3 by doubling up the pieces of certain colours and filling in the centre pieces.

Try solving the internal 3x3x3 (closer to the center), once done take this 'solved' cube as center and proceed to next layer 5x5x5 (see by the end of the video that he only really works with the most outer layer 7x7x7. Work the cube from inside out.

If you can solve the 3x3x3 and the 4x4x4 using the cage method, then you can solve any cube no matter how big. This is not the fastest way to solve a cube but it is the most consistent between cubes. Also you will never get parody on a 4x4x4 cube when solving it by cage method. Cage method is you solve the corners first, then all the edges, and the use center swap to sovle the centers.
