ALA worked closely with the killer, who planned all this too good for the SFPD to do anything about it. Zodiac used Arthur as his disguise, which would give him all the time he need to make his killings and then disappear again, making everyone think its Arthur all over. Graysmith writes in his book that there must have been two, since all this work with letters, symbols, calling the SFPD and so on is impossible for one man to do, when he had to take care of the murders as well. There you go.
Its simply too "easy" to accuse him, everything matches as I just stated so it must have been him, right? No. Here is what I think. There are two guys involved, the real Zodiac is working together with Arthur, and trying to make it look like its him. They both know he will never end up in jail, cause the police will never find the final evidence, because Arthur never killed anyone. Nor did he write any of the letters (later proven by DNA tests).
Its not Arthur Leigh Allen, and here is why. First of all, here is the reason why it could be him:
1. Wearing a Zodiac watch. 2. Was at the lake when the couple got murdered. 3. When he was sent to jo jail for child molestation all the letters suddenly stopped and began again shortly after he was released. 4. He called Mulanax stating it was his birthday (december 18th), and needed to kill. It is now a known fact that this is the date of his birthday.
David Fincher is one of my favorite directors. After brilliant Seven, Alien 3, Fight Club and Panic Room I had to watch Zodiac too. It was real challenge cause the story is based on true events. The whole film was good but still not what I'd expect. The atmos[here wasn't as scary/thrilling as it was in The Silence of the Lambs, Copycat, Seven or even The Zodiac (version 2005 with Justin Chambers & Robin Tunney). Anyway Mark Ruffalo showed brilliant acting. Gyllenhaal & Downey Jr. were great too
I love this movie but this trailer isn't a very good one. The music made it seems like a 50s comedy about crimework. This film is very tense and this trailer didn't capture that at all.
@GracelessDementor I think the music fits perfectly. It gives the movie a sort of bittersweet feeling. The movie isn't supposed to be scary, necessarliy. Its supposed to be about obsession on both sides.
@Cybernerd9000 Okay, cool if it worked for you. I just personally didn't feel like it captured the feeling of the movie, but that's just my opinion. I would've preferred something more eery. Like the music from "The Dark Knight". I guess the trailer can't please everybody. :-)
I love how Fincher has evolved, with Zodiac and Social Network he just takes the backseat and lets the story flow itself. What a contrast with Fight Club and Se7en, I like those movies too, but I think his latest work is more mature.
@ElTuco84 I feel like Fight Club and Se7en made bigger impacts though. Theyre very idealistic movies and they have an energy I dont sense in Zodiac and SN. That's just me, though. A lot of critics seemed to prefer the latter two.
Such a bad film. i tried liking it, i like david fincher stuff usually, but it failed. Nice beginning, nice middle, at the end you realise how bad the storyline is and the plot.
that scene where he ties up the 2 by the lake.. the way you could see the knife goes into their body multiple times is burned into my head.. you knew it was coming.. but unlike most horror movies, slashers etc.. it felt so real.. and you gotto love the movie is somewhat based on the truth..always a big bonus
I know I'm going to be hated for this but...ARE YOU ALL NUTS?! This film was so boring. Hardly and supense or thrills. Hours of Jake Gyllehal walking around wondering who the Zodiac killer is!
It's amazing how they re create those days...it takes me back to that time...I was just a kid..but I remember hearing about this case from my older cousin..who was a Maryland State Trooper...he was talking about it to his buddy..scared me then...bad...lol...but everyone knows it was Lee....who else could it have been?
i think it could be that guy from the magazine,, he was the only one who was writting about him, and he has that breathing problem,, i guess he could be the killer
I'm thinking about renting this movie, but I'm not sure if I will like it. The actors look fantastic, but the ploy seems kinda sketchy. Please reply and tell me what you think.
it is excellent. One of the best 2007 movies and grossly overlooked by the public. Reviews were great and the directing was exceptional, as always from David Fincher.
i knew this was based on the actual case, but i didnt realize this much!
almost everything is fact. the characters, evidence, suspects, witnesses, events, ...the meetings..., the letters, pictures.. everything! loved seeing this in a hollywood movie. its almost a documentary.
and the book that graysmith is writing at the end of the movie is what this movie is acually based on... which i thought was cool
you're kidding right? a lot of people want to see true events, books, history, etc made into movies. thats just the way it is & has been. its been done many times for many years. and a lot of movies that have been based off true events are awesome movies!
@hate420breed damn right!... first you have a movie like Se7en that its completely original.. then Fight Club, that, while it is based on a book, then I'd say is a 2 artists work (even if they've work seperatly) and a true piece of genious art ... BUT THEN you got THIS!.. "based on true events" type of movie... not good.
Even if i consider this movie as one of my favorites, i still have to take out some credit to david fincher for doing something thats not all about art. :S
David Fincher you are a god, this was soo underrated !! ppl wanted a horror movie, its really a case file one really noir, almost anyone could have become an expert on the case by watching this
Do not base this film off of this trailer! This film is one of the greatest I have ever seen; it is sickeningly under-rated.
