  • Hi Mate

Where is the main switch is that cool with bs 7671?

I'm asking because I just started my 2330 course.

    Thanks

  • Hi Rob , question please.

If you connect the active and neutral conductors together then test between the conductors and earth (500 volts) would this avoid damage to electronic control devices on the circuit or is it preferable to test between the neutral and earth and then between the active and earth. Thanks heaps.

  • Hi,

In this particular application, we considered it acceptable to have all circuits on a single RCD. The reason is that it is installed effectively in a garden office, disconnection is unlikely to cause any problems as the equipment is also powered from a UPS and the RCD can easily be reset within the back-up period.

We did not install a fused switch prior to the consumer unit as it is protected by a 45Amp Type D MCB - no RCD on the supply.

  • this is very helpful but a few questions....why do u have the lighting circuit on the rcd, if u are to put lights on an rcd shouldn't u have a separate rcd? also why do u not have a main switch fuse in the board. and a question on the insulation resistance test- can u do the test when the cables are in their respecting mcbs and neutral-earth bars, if the breakers are in the off position can u just go through each breaker and test each circuit like that. sorry for all the questions!!

  • I prefer to complete insulation resistance tests with each circuit disconnected as even turning off each MCB at a time, the neutral would still be connected to all circuits and therefore, measuring the sum of all resistances for Earth to Neutral/Live on an existing installation.

Thanks for the questions and happy spark'ing!!!

    Best Wishes,

    Rob.

  • thanks mate, ive got the NICEIC dvd and yours is miles clearer.

  • this has helped a great deal mate, thanks
