Daggerfall is JUST AS GOOD as Skyrim and Morrowind and A HELL OF A LOT BETTER THAN THAT PIECE OF SHIT GAME: OBLIVION! If you like ANY of the Elder Scrolls games then you MUST PLAY DAGGERFALL! It is the game that set the tone for the entire series and the one that I consider the most true to the series! Dagger IS the Elder Scrolls embodied!
my point is in skyrim i felt like i was getting from place to place too fast and the towns were FAR too small, if the towns were allowed to be 5 times larger then id actually feel like it was a town, not a small camp with giant walls.
Why don't they just combine content density - where relevant - with huge size? Have cities and towns and caves be fleshly and rich but have each separated by miles upon miles of generated land where instead of seeing 'a' deer every 20 ft, we see a herd of buffalo in some undiscovered pasture. You could have the player walk up on to where random battles between factions are taking place, and so forth.
I appreciate Skyrim, but trying to inject every square foo with eye candy is redundant.
Lucius(creator of DaggerXL) is planning on a draw distance of 200 miles, as well as computer generated terrains to give some life to the world. Imagine how breath taking the view would be from the Dragontail mountains. I'll definitely want to remake this video in DaggerXL once it is finished.
there is an amazing mod that redefines the generation of the world that daggerfall has, its really amazing, i can't get it running though =[ but obviously other people can, its called daggerfalXL, you can find it in moddb dot con, it improves the landscape, add random enemys(that daggerfal doesn't have) add improved textures and stuff like that =}
Daggerfall's land is a lot bigger (30K times), but you travel by horse from place to place. The land in the middle is very barren. Not to discredit Daggerfall, but in content density, Oblivion gets it, although the cramped world can be unbelievable (throw a rock in any direction and you land on an ancient dungeon - I'm surprised they don't know every single thing about the akavirians).
And this is why you shouldn't give your horse skooma.
But still, damn you, Daggerfall. It's been nearly 15 years now, and I'm still obsessed with you. Lately, I've been wondering about converting the game into a tabletop RPG of sorts. Maybe if I start with the isle of Betony, or maybe Balfiera, and I might finish before another 15 years are gone...
@numidium3 yea hated how small es4: oblivion was, I've never played ES1 or 2 but ES3 was quite huge, though I can see now that ES2 was even bigger, though it's pretty much the same everywhere compared to all the different environments in ES3
@numidium3 I have a question, is Arena bigger than Daggerfall? Because I know only one site that claims Daggerfall is the largest, but I've played Arena and know that it takes 10+ hours to get between towns without fast travel. Plus, Arena is all of Tamriel.
So are you ever gonna get to those hills in the background that can somehow be seen from several hundred kilometers away?
Jonassoe 1 week ago
Skyrim= 25 sq miles
Oblivion= 16 sq miles ( without Summerset Isles)
Hammerfell= 64,394 sq miles
And the Tamriel map makes no sense at all.

@LennoxGR It was released in 1996. What you're saying is essentially "Man, doom had such shitty graphics, I don't get why anyone would play it"
putnamehere3146 6 months ago
@LennoxGR whats cool is that this game has such a large gameworld, and this is just a small part of it.
Morrowind and oblivion are soo much smaller but more detailed to create better graphics

My only real dissapointment with this game is the lack of wildlife roaming. It would make roaming actually a bit entertaining.
