  • Just "found" this band and LOVE them! wish I could be at the Toronto show in a couple of weeks. Darn work and distance!

  • Thank you so much for uploading a 2006 show. I'll never forget seeing them in Baltimore and DC that year. The sound of that earlier material, earlier line-up, and such an incredible ending of "Ring them bells" will always have a special place in my heart.

  • Fantastic song fantastic band... too good of a band... too good.

  • These are the Former band from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada called :THE SILVER HEARTS"!!!!

My personal mission is to keep all you good Angels out of Jail soon you will all be released and clean and sober and then you all get your WINGS BACK!!!!!!

  • These are the Former band from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada called :THE SILVER HEARTS"!!!!

  • @pattio1 I shook all of their hands.

  • @bigtomcurbstomp thats sick, i was super close to all of them but they were all packing up, cept sophie

  • @pattio1 I was at NYC show like 2 hours early and they were chilling outside the venue smoking so I talked to them for like 30 seconds. I was like a little girl T.T

  • Thumbs up if you Etheric doubles remix of this song and the original both are killa trackz

  • killa

  • Oh my god .... it's amazing!!!!

  • I WANT THEM IN POLAND!!!!

  • This could very well be the most badass vid on youtube.

  • is there a place i can found A silver mt. Zion violin tabs ?

  • @xDyNaZtY to the best of my knowledge, such things would not be definitive, as what is actually being played generally changes everytime it is played...

  • Id put efrim up there with jesu's justin broadrick in respect of they are not the most talented in the world but my favriotes because of the passion behind the delivery.

  • aaaaaaaah SerheantLedge ur comment is fucking awesome!!!! +100000505050

  • There is an amazing recording of a GY!BE concert at l'olympic on the Internet Archive.

  • Lovely. Great live band.

If my band can get close to this I'll be happy!

  • @daveseckmusic good luck. sincerely.

  • His vocals are what make the band so amazing. Without it they would just be another instrumental band, still amazing, but their unique sound comes from his childish, broken down voice that is positively the best male voice, cept maybe Tom Waits, but he is you know God, in man form.

  • These guys are incredible! Vocal treatment is great - it all goes to make this the great piece that it is. I love these guys and as far as I'm concerned that's all that matters. Like U said, "keep rocking!"

  • wunderschön

  • I like the singer's voice. I think it fits the song well. Also, you can really hear the emotion in his voice, unlike the auto-tuned hacks that make up most popular music.

  • thank you

  • Does anyone have any idea when they might be touring again?

  • new album "Kollaps Tradixionales" comes out February 16 2010. I'd assume sometime around or shortly after that. let's hope!

  • they're gonna perform in England in March :)

  • @llllsmithllll Yes. they do. They will be in Germany in 2 months!!

  • idiot.

  • sorry but it's my opinion, don't take offense lol

  • le meilleur concert de ma vie a été celui des silver mount zion !

  • Pareil...

  • the vocals are insane so emotional, you probly just like the brushed and auto corrected pop vocals in the charts more that have no emotion what so ever.

  • Well if you consider the mars volta, mogwai, kayo dot etc, mainstream then i guess i do

  • Just because he's not quite into the vocals dosn't mean he's an idiot.

  • una de favortias canciones, i like this song!!!

  • i really dig the extra verses in this compared to the album version.

  • "extra verses" ???

  • around 4:46 there is a verse that is not on the album version. 'but you might get *something* but you won't get over. but you might get over, but you can't get over' is not in the studio version.

  • ah ok !!!

Mount zion is one of these bands that produces "never-finished" songs. They always change something in it. They add or remove things, or change the songs totally (i think of "Microphones in the trees" played live)....

  • @KimTuckerFr

All Silver Mt. Zion gigs are improvisational. They always play their songs in different ways, be it from the album or other performances. Compare this version of god bless our dead marines to the one recorded in cinema passos, portugal. They are really different.

  • i think he says 'you might get far'

  • @MrT1ki

I think it is "You might get through, but you won't get over".

  • Mt. Zion & GY!BE ARE music. The world needs gy!be back.

This is my favourite Zion song, so thanks for the vid.

  • The violins at 4.05 are so fucking lovely

  • Without the singer, the band would never have existed.

So you have to do with it !!!!! DAMNIT !!!!

  • d00d, give it about a week and he'll be your favourite vocalist.

  • @SergeantLedge Reminds me of Ozzy....

  • theoi apisteutoi latremenoi suntrofoi

  • You are clueless.

  • beauty is subjective. i dont like his voice either and i hate them for wasting that beautiful music with that voice..

  • in my opinion, an opera singer would ruin this type of music. his voice fits how indie they've always claimed to be

  • indie? i dont think postrock (or similar music) bands claim to be indie. it's for the music! and not for independence or fans or fame or money or coolness. that's what divides those bands from the others. and in this case, it's just that his voice subjectively doesnt seem to fit to the music in some ears, and that's the point

  • I agree. With a tiny difference in opinion. I think it's more the way the music makes the singer feel, which is why he sings the way he does (or even does at all) The same reason we sing along to our favorite songs (or hum). They're playing music for themselves, not us, so I think instead of focusing on vocals like popular culture has brainwashed us to do, and focus on the simple expression beauty that music like this provides. I don't think his voice takes away from the music but that's just me

  • Great insight. I would totally agree with that if we were in conversation. I have no idea what people's problems with his vocals are in the first place. You've hit the nail on the head with the vocal driven songs being the center of attention with the masses. If the music is beautiful enough on it's own, the vocals just add another layer of emotion. Anyways, keep rockin!

  • I think Efrim is a great singer. Few singers can sound genuinely saddened or enraged by their own music. I agree with Oddmanout, An "opera singer" type voice would ruin the effect.

  • One of the most beautiful band that I know

  • so I love this music but I just have a question...what are you supposed to do when you're watching them, you can't really rock out to it so do you basically just stand still and watch? If so that's fine but I know some bands hate it when people don't get into it but really how could you rock out to this type of music, I'm not saying it's bad though, I love it.

  • "do you basically just stand still and watch?"

hum...i prefer "stand still, watch AND LISTEN !!!"

"Rock out", i don't think it's the purpose of this type of music...They do the music that they like. They don't care about what will do the audience.

  • are you russian or something?

  • My friend asks me this all the time. This music is best enjoyed with a beverage of choice, some smokes, and some friends. If you're the type that needs to get wasted every concert so you can slam dance or feel up girls (like my friend) than enjoy your limited scope. I like those sorts of concerts too, but I also like to "think" and be moved by real art now and then. Don't criticize what you don't understand.

  • It was just a question, btw, don't think you have superior musical tastes and say I don't "understand", I never said they weren't good, I love this band, but you don't see me acting all smug because of it. Limited scope...get your head out of your ass buddy

  • I didn't mean to come across that way, and I do apologize. Perhaps I was channeling the post more towards my friend who laughs at me and refuses to go to their concerts with me than anyone else. I'm sure you have a great record collection. Peace.

  • are you a little stupid

  • a hate it. especially fags like you didn't get the idea of this music.

  • I would dance to this, regardless of what others would think of me.

  • Comment removed

  • @jlaw666 Dude, I rage to this music I have no clue what you thinking

  • Fucking Gay? You talk about yourself too much. Why the fuck did you waste your time and watch this in the first place, you stupid bitch?

  • holy shit i wanna move in montreal.....thats insane..what a voice...and a band....

  • I'm in love with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and everyone says I'll like Silver Zion..., but what album should I start with?

  • Alot of people would say "This is Our Punk Rock..." or "Born Into Trouble..." but their newest album, "13 Blues For 13 Moons" is amazingly well structured, and fairly accesible to people who have never heard them. I gotta plug Cerberus Shoal here to. Great band.

  • Horses in the Sky. Listen to this song... it's the most beautiful, moving and sad thing ever... I cry sometimes.

  • I prefer Horses in the Sky and Born into Trouble as Sparks Fly Upwards

  • I'd say you have to start with the first album "he has left us alone, but shafts of light sometimes grace the corner of our rooms. They've evolved a lot over the years, so i think you're best starting at the beginning.

    cheers

  • O yeah.I just come back from there performance in wrocław.I was a fuking blast.Love the band.Godspeed.

  • I was privileged enough to see them two years ago in San Francisco.

I still get the chills listening to this song.

  • different lyrics?

  • i was going to see them in asheville, and i asked my dad for a ride, but he wasn't to keen on going to see a band with songs like god bless our dead marines. . . too bad

  • The songs played by the silver mount zion in live shows now are a bit far from the "horses in the sky" songs...

Now, it's more like "rock" stuff or something...like the new album "13 blues for thirteen moons"

  • so what memebers from a sliver mount are from godspeed???

  • 3 of them

efrim, sophie and some other quebecoifag

  • still sounds like silver mt zion

  • y is the drummer playing with one hand what is he holding in the other hand?? lol

  • read the third page of comments...

  • i like his voice sounds tortured brilliant dark but amazing

  • jewishly tortured..

  • Amazing and unique style.

  • Thoroughly amazing & beautiful. O how I wish they'd come to Austin...

  • amazing recording! a silver mt zion rocks!

  • I'm seeing them on sunday :)

    what a cool band :D

  • they are brilliant...

saw them in dc last week. good bands _ small clubs + small crowds = awesome

  • hey dude, I was there too. I think that was in my top 10 shows ever. and I've seen ALOT of shows.

  • is it just me or do people in the back try to start a "boo" when he says "This song is called God bless Our Dead Marines."

    D:

i'm hoping it's just my ears deceiving me :<

  • i think he said "do it

  • its an "ooo" not a "boo" :)

  • i hear that too...around like 0:29,30ish.

  • Great stuff, but when I heard them on the tele for a lost commercial I got worried. I know they arent the kind of band to sell out, but Im still gonna have that worry in the back of my head

  • he needs to stfu imo :)

their instrumental music speaks for itself, don't need a rambler in between, although on very rare occasions i like his voice, 99% I don't :)

    But still; f00king awesome band

  • i like it in bursts. it's all right. but no doubting he's one of the best musicians out there today.

  • Fair comment. He has great ideas but his voice kind of wanders in and out of tune, which undermines some of the tight vocal melodies required by this piece. But that's a small price to pay for how utterly post apocalyptic the song's opening vocals are

  • i think it adds to the songs a lot.

  • the sound of a violin and a guitar going at once makes me want to shit my pants at the epicness

  • I have just seen them in Nijmegen, Netherlands. It was the 140th show :) He begins every concert with this sentence

  • does anyone can tell me what exactly the drummer is doing with his right hand when he starts the beat?

  • He plays the charleston with a small thing in his hand (!)...

As i said in another comment, i think it's a bit useless...

  • firstly, with "charleston" you mean hi-hat? and if the, kind of like hi-hat, sound is produced by the drummer it's not useless. why do you think that it is?

  • Because he uses a hi-hat during live shows ! So why to have one on stage and using something else that's making the same noise ???

I think (as a drummer) that it's only a visual effect...

But the show was awsome...with or without this "thing".

  • moron

  • maybe this is my godspeed you! black emporer fanboyism talking but is his voice bothering anyone else? godspeed's instrumentalism was one of the reasons i loved them so much.. this song is awesome but i really would like to ehar it without the vocals,

  • im a goodspeed freak too, but, they're two seperate bands, besides from theyre beeing singing, the music is difrent too, i like it this way, i like his voice

  • yeah man!

  • Likewise, I enjoy his vocal presence, they are two separate groups. "without the vocals" is totally absurd, this is how it was written.

Everyone's a critic. Often, a negative critic at that.

  • Ils joueront à Montréal demain!

  • playing london's scala 7th and 8th may '08

  • This is wonderful! Thanks.

Horses In The Sky is a fantastic album - though I'm still hoping we get to see GSY!BE in Glasgow again sometime.

  • Sorry. GYBE definitely broke up. That's what efrim said.

  • wrong! they're on indefinite hiatus and re-convene once a year to discuss future plans, no big ideas yet though!

  • You're lucky man. I'm in a small town in Middle Georgia, I can barely find anyone who has even heard of Radiohead haha.

  • et Jessica est vraiment charmante, à sourire ainsi ...

  • Je le ai vus à la Cigale à Paris à cette meme époque. Un sacré souvenir.

Un son incroyable sans basse elecrique.

  • chills... just chills.

  • Just beautiful.

this song freezes me and burns me at the same time.

    What a voice!

  • brilliant

    just brilliant.

  • the violins don't sound annoying at all, and i'm sorry but everything is wonderfull in this group, taht's original and really, that's better than most of the group i know, i don't understand how you can't love it

  • such glorious fucking noise!

  • J'y étais !!

D'ailleurs le mec avec une touffe devant la scène, c'est moi !

Concert mémorable, en particulier la dernière chanson, ils se mettent tous à chanter ensemble sur Horses in the sky, et c'était magique.

    I was her !!

A fabulous concert, in particulary at the last song, all the band start to singing Horses in the sky, and it was magic !

  • merci pour ces deux videos :-)

où qu'ils aillent, leurs shows sont toujours aussi intenses.... ils reviennent quand ???

  • how comes i have never met another person who likes this kind of music?! All my friends are so closed minded and like crap like the academy is, give me a silver mt zion and hope of the states any day!

  • Really I know quite a few people how like this sort of stuff

  • you're better than your friends.

  • i totally feel ya... 98% of my friends claim ASMZ and GY!BE are stupid and weird... **sigh** i need to get some new friends, ha!

  • hey which concert was this?

  • Just read what's written next to the video !!!

    It was in france.

  • hah the cellist doesn't even use a bow.

  • yeah its pizzicato!

  • God Bless (Part1) Superb.. - Cutting edge, raw, in ya face music. Girl on the fiddle is just AMAZING. Release this single folks!!!! MASSIVE RESPECT.

  • Amazing band, saw them at ATP and they were mezmorizing. Spoke to Efrim, he was uber cool.

  • Dear A silver mount zion, nobody likes you, remake Godspeed you black Emperor

(JK I LOVE THIS STUFF BUT GODSPEED IS BETTER)

  • I doubt that they're listening....

  • i miss it.

  • good job filming, amazing band.

  • I was at this concert, this is my town. I was at the opposite of where the guy filmed. It was fabulous. I'm so glad having seen em once in my life!

  • this is like totaly amazing i hope i get to see this band before i die...

  • wo these guys are like way awesome, do they have a myspace?

  • No, they don't they all died in a horrible plane crash. Now your green day cd's calling go back to it!

  • There's no reason to be a jerk. Not everyone is born with your seemingly impecable taste in music and subtle wit.

  • Haha. Yes.

  • OMG I H8 U

  • whats that supposed to mean?
