Tapping in sync with the kick drum, using jazz chords in heavy music, having perfect tone, managing to get clarity while tuned in Ab, and having an in depth knowledge of music theory. This is briliant. Now all my friends who listen to jazz and bash me for the music I listen to can finally have someone to shut them up.
Thank You David Maxim Micic, You are proof that heavy music is for the intelligent, dedicated, and inventive musicians just as much as jazz is.
@japda9 Unfortunately you can't hear the entire song because the EP is not out yet. However, you can find a longer clip, and many other demos from the EP if you go to SoundCloud, and type in David Maxim Micic.
Noticed the video title is wrong. It should be Ab Bb Ab Eb Ab Bb, was about to "bash" on his mentioning of Open flat 9 until I went back and heard him say Bb (Eb and Bb kinda sound the same), because with Eb it would just turn into an Ab5 chord with a 2 on top.
Wonder if it's a coincidence that he is tuned in an open 9, as is typical for many eastern european instruments, such as the baglama, which I believe is from turkey?
I love the idea of this tuning. I already have high gauge strings, but i never thought to do something like this. Imagine if you did have a 7-string. you could tune it in the same way from the bottom, starting on G, plus the extra high string. there would be so much range!
Seems to me like you can really hear a Vai influence in the solo at 8:09, really beautiful stuff, I like this guy more and more ith everything I see. lol, dudes a badass.
He reminds me of Eggeh from Uneven Structure. I hear a lot of good influences, Periphery, Uneven Structure, Animals As Leaders, but this guy manages to give it new energy. Love the combination of this with the 2 female vocalists. Can't wait for Euroblast 2011!
@MetalBassist73 He also plays the piano like a pro. You should check his personal channel out where he has some mashup with piano and the two hotties.
@Thollto He's playing the String below the one he is bending, because he has a floating trem it takes tension off the other strings, lowering their pitch.
@SkelpYourHead do me it looks like he strums the 6th strang but pulls the 5th string hard enough for the tremolo to bend and whammy down the string ;) Creative and awesome guitarist he be!!
@allhailpantera123 Generally, chords aren't written with "5" in them. If there is no "+" or "b" before the "5," it is to be assumed the fifth degree is perfect. Therefore, it is merely an Ab9 chord. If anything, it would be indicated that the 3rd degree (C) is missing.
@KillswitchEngage42 Thanks a bunch, I'm just starting to learn theory. Abadd9, though, then? I'm still wondering about the missing 7th degree, the Gb.
@allhailpantera123 No problem brother. You could say add 9 or just Ab9. They are almost the same. In this case, the chord is major, which would yield a major 7th degree, or G natural. If the 7th degree was included, the chord would read: Abmaj7 add9 (which is a very groovy chord :))
Not going to lie...Just from hearing portions of your EP and some of the Destiny Potato stuff, particularly 0:09-0:22, I can expect that your stuff will be on my favorites list this year.
This guy is so nice! THANK YOU, IT WAS HELPFUL AND INSPIRING! I honestly consider him an unaverage guy though I'm very critical. I'm definitely gonna utilize his instructions in my music.
hands down, you really helped me figuring out from chord progressions to rhythmic riffs... i actually came down with one of this tunings by myself a while ago!
if everyone wants to try it: gauges are (from 1st string to 6th): 12 (B), 16(F#), 24p (D), 32 (A), 44 (E), 75 (E). I just use the Not Even Slinky pack from Ernie Ball and replace the 6th with a 75 bass string. why djent/progressive metal is fucking awsome
1.all there playing sounds like JOHN petrucci
2.POLYRYTHYMS
3.most bands like to use 7 strings preferably music man JP 7
4. john petrucci is my favorite guitarist so thats a plus
5. i just annoyed you (whoever is reading this) with all the JP references
so the moral of this
is that if u dont like this music you support abortion, communism, and domestic violence =P
petrucci619 5 months ago 21
@petrucci619 The abortion part was uncalled for. Real dig move dude. >.>

By bending the Bb string the trem drops and that drops the Ab string.
So in stead of diving the trem bar he bends a diff string/
