@twistedyogert There cannot be a nuclear reaction if there is no fuel for the reaction. In this case, the fuel (garbage) was used up when Marty returned to the year 1985

Looking at the shot head-on to the train, it's pulling no cars. A movie of that time still used plenty of process screen shots. All of the shots with Marty visible were process screen except for the last "wide" shot, which is a stuntman jumping from 10 feet away already. Great sequence though.

no it was a shell of a delorean and it was barly put together so when the train hit it jus demolished it

think about this, if you are the producer of the movie, would you crash a whole delorean for doing a 2 minutes scene, or just half of it?.

Besides, it looks like the front half had already caved in by the start of the shot anyways, as there is nothing but trunk in the front, it would be easy to crush the front.

Yeah, hes right. The delorean was one of the several copies made for effects like this. I think there were two of the railroad deloreans.

it was a real dmc delorean nothin missing. only 1 destroyed in a movie production and oddly only 6 were used out of the entire trilogy

It may have been what you call a mock-up, as most of the Deloreans used in the film were either used for exterior shots or interior shots, and many fiberglass models were made for the flying deloreans, so yes, they did really destroy it, but they used about 10 or 20 in the making of all 3 movies if I'm correct.
