@gojiramonkey You got to see Giant live? You are one lucky son of a bitch. One of the most underrated bands from the late 80's. Huff is one of the best guitarist ever. Writes a lot of country stuff now.
Yup...Tangier, Tattoo Rodeo Giant and Company Of Wolves...even though I lean towards the grotesquely heavy way more I had a lot of time for these guys...criminal how they couldn't get arrested in that climate where the few "top dogs" had the hegemony...Christ knows how any band is meant to fare nowadays, in a climate where not too long ago The Darkness were considered fresh and different...fuck me...Talk about having yer head wedged up yer arse !!! I raise my glass to you guys...good memories
Great Southern Rock influenced album! What's interesting is they had the image of the hair bands, but were far from the typical lame generic hair bands of the time. No comparison in terms of the singing, song writing and overall quality.
I'm Whitesnake's fan the music video is WS's style BUT personally I can make a difference between WH's style and Tangier. Very good band, the singer has powerful voice just like David Coverdale I think the singer is fan of David :)
@Z06forme usually the video version is similar to the single version. The album/cd version is usually longer and slightly different. This song for example, the video version is 4:10, the single version is 4:17 and the album version is 4:40
Bill Mattson is more like David Coverdale morphing with the Rocking Michael Bolton, he has that Bolton look from the 1980s. I have the LP, it's on ATCO if you're looking
@DRpretorius39 Well, Warrant's Cherry Pie is something they wanted to sweep under the carpet in favor of Uncle Tom's Cabin, and I think that's accurate of an opinion for the fans closest to the scene. Black Crowes were touring with Robert Plant, Now and Zen tour when I saw them in 1990, They were awesome. Not grunge
This band was for sure under rated. I saw them in florida with cinderella and badlands in 89' and just like that they were gone just like the band giant. Music today does not hold a candle to 80's hair bands the 80's will live on.
@nikotacoma Tangier vanished just like so many other great forgotten bands from the AOR era like Taxxi, Raging Slab, Tarney Spencer Band, Roachford, Nantucket, Harlequin, Quarterflash (who are more than just a one hit wonder), Tora Tora, Bang Tango, Trixter, Billy Satellite, Louisiana's LeRoux, Point Blank, Starz, New England, Stone Fury, Giuffria, Franke & The Knockouts, Steel Breeze, Chilliwack, Off Broadway, Shoes, The Records, Mahogany Rush, Crawler, Coney Hatch, Streetheart & so on...
@bucky468 Haven't heard it on WNCX recently, but I'm from Warren and sometimes have trouble pulling in the signal. Another great LOCAL band in the AOR genre was White Noise. Vocalist Paul Skowron and guitarist/keyboardist Jimmy Gumina have produced two EP's together since 2000, "Demolator" (3 new songs plus a new studio version of their classic power-ballad "Don't Throw Me Away" and a new EP called "Medical Grade" with five new songs. Check out ethrband(dot)com to buy on mp3 or CD. GREAT music!
@jshorva65 I'm not that familiar w/White Noise. They must be really local b/c I can't find that song you mentioned at All Music Guide. Then again AMG doesn't list small indy label albums from bands that only made it regionally & that I'm having trouble understanding myself. AMG does however list Paul Skowron who was in a hard rock band in the late 80's/early 90's called Noisy Mama who had an album on Atco at about the same time as Tangier's "Four Winds" LP (w/"On The Line.") Ever hear of them?
@bucky468 Noisy Mama consisted of original White Noise members Paul Skowron - Lead Vocals, Jimmy Gumina - Guitars / Keyboards / Backing Vocals, Dave Neidbalson (credited as Dave Scott) - Guitars / Backing Vocals and new members Chris Merullo - Bass and Tommy Rich - Drums replacing original bassist Carl Infante and drummer Allen Sillaman. "Everybody Has One" was a Very Good album, but would have been a GREAT one with all five original members and classic White Noise songs from '86-'88 included.
@jshorva65 Apparently at Atco's insistence, Infante and Sillaman were out and Merullo and Rich were in, and their style became more like G-n-R and less like White Noise with NOT ONE of their best songs appearing on the album. Subsequently, Dave left the band and has since Retired from performing, and a second album was released as a quartet under new band name "Hounds of Desire" titled "Balls", also a Very Good album. Atco's advice / demands robbed them of the Multi-Platinum fame they deserved!
@jshorva65 Check out the two rare White Noise tracks recorded from local radio (WRQK 106.9FM Akron/Canton) airplay of their 1986 Demo circa 1987 on my YouTube videos. Two of their harder-edged AOR tracks that were HUGE crowd-pleasers Live. On New Year's Eve 1986-87, White Noise played a locally-famous Rock club in Kent, Ohio "(Filthy) McNasty's" and the Fire Marshall would only allow 1,300 of the 1,600 fans in. At least 200 stood outside waiting for others to leave for a chance to get in.
@jshorva65 I'm not sure ATCO has faired poorly with several rock records, they are an offshoot of Atlantic Records IIRC, anyway, I have wondered why they messed with something so good, and the Four Winds is ace, start to finish, the comments confirm it, They needn't have messed with the proven formula, but offered more of the same!
OMG! Always wondered WTF band this was! Got this on an old Open Reel from when I'd time-shift the "Power Chord" radio show (WMMS's own show from Cleveland, very similar to the syndicated show "Metal Shop") 20+ years ago with open-reel recorders rigged to timers while I was out at the local Rock clubs either playing in my own band or watching friends' bands. The DJ didn't identify this song on the air. A 20-year mystery solved thanks to the Net (Googled a few lines of the lyrics).
@jshorva65 -- TOTALLY different sound from "Stranded" (knew that one from "Headbanger's Ball" on MTV and knew that one was Tangier). No wonder I didn't recognize this one! Almost no similarity at all in their sound with Mike LeCompt on vocals instead of Bill Mattson and only Doug Gordon on guitar. MUCH better sound with this lineup!!! The dual Doug Gordon / Gari Saint guitar work and Bill Mattson's vocals REALLY made a difference.
@jshorva65 -- Both songs are excellent, but this one on an even higher level than "Stranded" ... kinda like Cleveland's SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUPERSTARS, Michael Stanley Band, were great before and since Kevin Raleigh's tenure sharing the Vocals duties with Michael Stanley and keyboard duties with Bob Pelander, but 1979-1986 was their ABOVE GREATNESS time! It's like, instead of two great parts ADDED together, it was a case where great parts MULTIPLIED their greatness joining together as a whole.
Awesome! So glad I found this video on here finally as I have been looking for it for awhile. I remember this band from the late '80s. I always thought they were excellent, really great blues-based heavy metal. Really disappointed they never took off.
@Lfdjake91 Grunge put an end to these bands.....and the 80's era in general. They played a tune from this album...I think it was Ripcord........on my local fm station (Orlando FL) back then.
@pedraw I can tolerate grunge but alt-rock in general killed AOR. Tangier was one of those fresh bands from the AOR genre. AOR ruled the airwaves from 1965 to 1995. So grunge had nothing to do w/it. What came after is what really killed AOR.

@Dudeprelude69 with a bit of Bad Company/Paul Rodgers in there as well. I can't believe I've never heard of these guys before and I've been listening to Metal/Hard Rock for decades.
@Dudeprelude69 -- Guitar tone always sounded like a cross between Blackmore and (Michael) Schenker to me. Vocals reminded me of Paul Rodgers, too, but just a bit Joe Lynn Turner, too.
There was actually another video from this album, Four Winds, with this singer, called Southbound Train. Really hard to find but was also an MTV vid. The 3rd video had a young, super hot Pamela Anderson and was the title cut from Stranded.
