in my country (seychelles) it is illegal to tow the aircraft in reverse... to go in the opposite direction ud have to turn the tug around
and to disconnect the tow bar directly from the nose landing gear without disconnecting from the tug first comes with its formal warning and maybe result in getting fired. but, it is a lot easier to do that with airbus.... as their tow bar comes out from the bottom....
but, i guess every airport has its own regulations

@wn676 Oh okay, I see it. I work for USA in BUF and our setup is alittle different. I used to work for AWE at PHX when we had 742's in addition to the normal fleet.
Come on dude, you work for the laughingstock of the aviation industry. Of course you wouldn't know about the bylaws of proper pushback procedures. Your too busy bailing out your DUI ceo.
@quazimutato I'm not arguing that this is proper procedure, I'm just trying to figure out where the "illegal" part came from. Standard procedure at this station is to disconnect from the crossbar unless the towbar gets stuck like it did here, in which case we're supposed to disconnect from the tug first.
@wn676 Dude you are supposed to disconnect from the pushback first, then from the plane. Maybe US Airways does it different over there, but here in PWM is like i said.
@FireFeniX203 We have always used a different kind of towbar which is a lot easier to disconnect from the plane first, so when these showed up basically overnight, we kept doing what we had always done because no one told us otherwise. Only after 2 or 3 years did they finally release a bulletin telling us to do it the right way, though as of 6 months ago we don't even have them anymore.
It became a bit of a habit that day after pushing two '57s prior to this. You could probably do without it, but I also like to give myself more room between the tail and the airstairs parked against the wall behind 18.
yes it is.. but it was first an america west plane. they merged with US Airways and took us airways name therefore painting their jets the US Airways colors. the America west birds that they converted still had the America West A320 tail number, which start with 600..
thats the most unsafe way to release that type of towbar, tou should release the handel then jack the wheels down, to lift it of instead of building up all that enegery in the wheels and relasing the handel like that. other wise youll cause damage
The handle was released, but the towbar was slightly off center and was stuck. After the guy jacks the wheels down he shakes it to get it loose. They changed our procedure for these towbars, which really seemed obvious from the beginning, but now if they become stuck we simply unhook them from the tug end and then disconnect from the nose gear.
2 questions, how old so u have 2 be 2 do that work and what was that cord connected 2 the plane for? does that like keep the engines from spooling up but so far?
Oddly enough I find A310's easier to push

That's whats known as a "quick disconnect" which is extremely dangerous and illegal.
quazimutato 1 year ago
@quazimutato How is it "illegal?"
wn676 1 year ago
It's illegal because your supposed to disconnect the towbar from the jet tug first. Although i see you work for US Airways, which explains a lot.
quazimutato 1 year ago
@quazimutato There's no law that says you have to do it that way.
wn676 1 year ago
Like i said, you work for that lowly US Scareways, you wouldn't know any better.

@quazimutato Still waiting for information on an actual law that pertains to release procedures of towbars.

Is it really necessary to do a rediculous "S" push like that when you are doing a "push-pull"? I think not. . . .

At least y'all use new tow bars. Ours are way past their prime..

I actually really despise these tow bars. The ones that drop off are so much easier to deal with.

I think we start at $9.26, but don't hold me to that. You have to complete 1 week of classroom training and 2 weeks of OJT.
