I usually am against Falsettists but I have to admit I like the homogeneity of timbro of Mr Daniels. There are some points I don't like (for example the ascending scales where he trows the high note and seems like the accent is there) but generally I have appreciated it all. Very nice coloratura too!
Daniels is the CT equivalent in my mind to Bartoli a.k.a. the queen of agility. For a treat look up his duet with Bartoli "Scherzano sul tuo volto"... I want that played as I exit the chapel on my wedding day but only if it's sung by those two.
I was lucky to see Daniels perform this in a recent recital. The audience was literally blown over. Finally someone who can do that in a masculine way. Bravo! This recording is excellent, too.
He is actually singing in Eb minor not E minor... not a big deal since he's a counter-tenor, not a true Mezzo but I'm curious as to which key was the original. Baroque tuning was about a half step flat from modern tuning so if E minor was the original key then it would have sounded in Eb in the time period in which it was written.
@kvasir1814 well, actually he was singing Sesto at the beginning of his career. He is higher than many a countertenor... more a mezzo voice than anything else.
I saw last week Christine Rice singing this role at ENO and she, and the rest of cast, was FAB. This was the top aria of the night, and she have done it in a brilliant way.
I love following the sheet music - it really adds wonder to the work we listen to.

The aria is in E minor. They're simply playing with the usual "baroque" tuning La=415 Hz

Do you know Nuno Guerreiro?
He's a portuguese singer from "ala dos namorados" but he's also a classical singer.
He's a great countertenor.

Thanks for posting.
If someone is interested in more recordings of this aria, I've got a version with Philippe Jaroussky.

Thank you so much.
I prefer this version to the one with the countertenor.
Does anybody know about a 3CD pack of the entire Opera, buyable in Portugal?
Obrigada (thank you in Portuguese)
