Algebra, algorithm were invented by Arabs & Persians at Islamic era, no denying it. Father of medicine is Avicenna (Persian from Islamic era). Father of optics is Alhazen (Arab in Islamic era). Father of secular thought in W. Europe is Ibn Rushid (Averroes), the list is huge. But, its not surprising as at that time it was the Arab civilization that ruled the world. Greeks also invented many great things during their time. Btw, Babylonians of Mesopotemia were Arabs.

Algebra mostly deals with solving linear, quadratic equations, cubic. Yes, they pioneered most of these, thats why they are considered founders.If You want to be that picky, then no one invented from scratch. Greeks also took many knowledges from the Egyptians. At Islamic era their basics were from Greeks, Indians, Chinese etc. and worked on it.

Like I said the civilization is called 'Islamic civilization', hence their contribution is labelled Islamic, just like Greek or Roman era because it stems from their civilization's name. He used engines, tires etc from previous inventions to make car.

Another ex: the father of surgery is considered Abul Kasem (Abulcasis) from Islamic era, he made over 100's of surgery instruments many of which are used to this day. But he didn't invent surgery, surgery existed in Ancient Egypt, India, China. But, it was he who pioneered it and brought it to a new level and hence called 'father' of it.

If you think the word 'Islamic' is a bad choice, then the blame should go to historians and academics who labelled it such.

There were mathematical equasions (algebra) used in persian science, greek science, indian science, roman science, ancient egyptian science.
