I have been looking for this song for nearly 45 years. I have not heard it in over 50 years. Thank you very much for putting this song within my ear's reach. COOKIE
This has always been one of my favorite poems, and to hear the words put to song in such a beautiful way, warms my heart.
I was soooo happy to find it!!!
Thank you Rowoches for adding it. And God Bless the memory of your late grandmother.
To anyone interested in reading the words to this beautiful poem, set to music by the "Clefs", go to: Elizabeth Akers Allen - Rock Me To Sleep Mother.
You're most definitely welcomed! And I do appreciate you giving me the source of the song. There are a couple of parts that are unclear to me in the song. I will most definitely check it out.
We sang this song just a couple of times when I was part of a choir in Tallahassee, FL, around 1967-68. Loved it then and have been looking for it since. Had no idea who the original artists were. Not familiar with the Clefs before now. Took a chance on You Tube and here it is. I will certainly check out other Clefs' selections. Thanks so much for posting this unforgettable song.
Scary, haunting, exotic, unnerving. A dream or a nightmare? One of those records you don't forget. Leon Lumpkins was one of the most innovative talents gospel has produced. And Raymond Andrews' last soprano note would defy most classically-trained counter tenors. Brilliant, brilliant.

Grew up with the Clfs but only recently have a better appreciation of their uniqueness.
My Dad and uncles fancied themselves as the Clefs. They were very good and looked cool singing.
More appreciative of this than I can say.
Thank you!
