@bman31324 That proves nothing. If you're running a stock valvetrain you ARE floating your valves at 7k. It's not questionable, it's a FACT. Ask any experienced engine builder familiar with Mustangs. You would need some expensive valvetrain upgrades to not be. Also in order to make power you would need a cam for that rpm range and other supporting mods. MAF, Injectors, ect. Put your car on a dyno and spin it to 7k, I bet it will be making more power at 5500 than at 7.
@bman31324 But you are denying that the valves are floating at 7k on a stock drivetrain. Btw, you could have an aggressive cam, short runner intake, ported heads, 75mm TB, 90mm MAF, ect. and still have trouble making power at 7k because of valve float (if your running a stock vavletrain). Trust me Bman, I know what I'm talking about. Not only is it not making power at that rpm, but your putting an extreme amout of wear on your valvetrain. If I was you I would keep it under 6k from now on.
Yea those tachs are so off, i put a 5" in autometer on the side of my cluster and reads so much more accurately. Plus im pretty sure those ecm's shut down at like 6250?
@jds95sx actually that is quite incorrect reason a.. the 4,6,and 8 cylinder all have the same cluster but.... theres a little switch at the bottom thankyou thank you... and b.. well if it was turned to 4 cyl its idle would read about 2 g's and at six it would be like 1700 Thank you Thank you ppl... im here all day lol
damn idoits, for one who cares if it came with a rev limiter, maybe he took it off, and your car probably wont sound the same around 7000 as this guys if you have a different cam.. gah i could say so much more, but im not wasting my time
the motor sounds about right coming down from 5 g the first time but the 2nd time unless thats not stock or a new motor it should start floating around 6500 with stock parts, but sounds really nice idk if thats right or not but it does sound nice
The tach is off. That was no higher than about 5500rpm. 95% of the factory tachs are off. The factory rev limiter is set to 6250. It will not pass that.
@90geetee an 88 GT doesnt have a rev limiter. the factory didnt set anything. thats just the point that the motor stops reving faster and you just start blowing shit through your firewall
No offense, but you're dead wrong. The factory rev limiter is set at 6250rpm. Keep arguing, because I really don't car either way. But that wasn't a true 7000rpm. I'll put my life on it.
What do I know though.. I only built/own my 90 Mustang GT that runs 10.60's@130+, and turns an ACTUAL 7000+ rpm. I have the limiter set at 7300rpm. Anderson Ford PMS ftw.
wow.......tht sounded mean, all gts n 5.0s r mean off tha showroom, sorry ima ford man, I was brought home from a hospital in a ford:) its ben history eva since HAHAHA
@vXLiViNGvXvEv1LXv his tach if off. that was about 6000rpm at the least. for 7000 listen to how a C6 Z06 sounds going thru the gears as its redline is 7000....or a tad bit above that.
thats not accurate more the a couple of real 7k revs and your stock v8 is toast. get a good tach lightweight pistons, rods, crank, engine girdle and high performance valve springs then you really can turn 7k i did the same for my honda and it turns 9300 naturally aspirated.
on the back side of the stock gage cluster there is a switch u can change from 4cyl, v6 or v8 if you have a v8 in the car and the tach is set on v6 or 4cyl. its going to show crazy things.
Ya... sorry man, but the factory tach is anything but accurate. Hook up a digital timing light(with rpm display) or better yet, a quality tach... and the higher you get in the RPMs, the more inaccurate the factory tach becomes. My stand-alone shift light is set for 6600. But when it lights off, the stock tach is showing past 7K.
unless it was a carb car...stock foxes will only turn 6250 rpm with the A9L comp...and valve float depends on a number of factors...cam, lifters, springs, etc...less shit talking guys, more research
Your tach has to be off. That or this car had a chip/tune stock rev limiter is 6250 rpm. 7000rpm with stock springs would cause excessive vavle float and would quickly blow break valve springs. Anyways nice car. Sounds strong. Throw pistons, heads, 4-7 cam, a strong crank and have a 8000+ rpm stable 5oh.
@FoxBodyMike1 4-7 cam? WTF are you talking about dude? Are you talking about a non h.o. cam which swap 3 for 5 and 7 for 4? If so, the 13726548 cam will rev better anyway.
I don't even go to 5k on mine

You'd be floating the valves like crazy at 7k.
