  • It is very important to follow the directions of your instructor. There are many variables affecting safety that one may not be aware of. If the student pilot in this video continued to go to the right, he would have likely gotten too low on the mountain to make it to the safe landing zone or worse, may have landed in the trees in these particular conditions.

  • you instructed him to pull in, causing him to lower elevation. I am sure he wanted to exercise just a little bit of freedom, go to the right, catch a little air. Instead you directed him in such a way as to shorten the duration of the flight. A flight probably looked forward to with much anticipation.

You are a good teacher, altho a bit suppressive and domineering. I doubt if you notice, and i am sure it can be supported with the theory of safety.None the less , folks have feelings.

  • The instruction was to pull in to maintain penetration speed, NOT to lose altitude. hang gliders achieve best glide performance at a higher speed than trim. They also penetrate head winds better with additional speed. They also control better with additional speed. Maybe John is domineering and suppressive, I don't know, but his instructions were to maintain speed for penetrating a head wind. I thought he was very polite in his commentary.

  • thought about it, you are correct !

  • nice work John. Did he land where he was supposed to? I think i would have tried to stay in the air a while.

My turn will come next year .
