  • @Harvardkarbodie. I'm not a harvard professor, I'm an 18 year old pianist, and I don't mean to be rude when I say, who cares his intentions? His music, and this piece more specifically doesn't have one meaning for people. For me this piece is the hardship of my Israeli ancestors, and of my Russian ancestors, being forced from their homes by an unstoppable power. This is how life is, this sadness is it, and nothing anyone tells me about the history behind it will change it for me. With respect.

  • This video is a very good example of how you can make visuals have a very charged meaning, or conversely change the meaning of a piece of music with visuals. I've been practising this piece and all that has been going through my head is the intense romanticism of the feelings. Now I see it juxtaposed against images of angst and while it would be unfair of me to criticize it I have to wonder if this is really fair to Rachmaninoff. He was not exactly what you call a political artist.
