  • Another great collection; I can watch 71000 all day and night!

  • Great action ...But why do they have a diesel attached, can't the steamer do the job on it's own?

  • Thanks, those ex class 25's were known as 'Ethels' (Electric Train Heating Expired Locomotive) were to provide heating on carriages such as these which did not have steam heating. The 'Ethels' were much despised by enthusiasts. You still see diesels attached, usually thankfully at the rear, to provide assistance with shunting stock at a terminus and occasionally for heating when there is no generator van in the train

  • Blooooooody hell !! She flew through Aberegele at the end, swear if u stock a pair of wings on that thing it would take off !! Great vid mate 5* ... MostynLadd

  • Cheers, that's where she belongs, on the main line

  • Lovely loco. Shame we're not going to see it back on the mainline till next spring.

  • Super loco,super locations,super sound,superbly shot,could watch it again and again,and i will

  • Thank you very much, she is a particular favourite and hopefully will be back on the mainline before too long...Austin

  • This old whistle tone on the Duke of Gloucester suits it much better i feel that the one she had before

  • Yes, I think I have to agree David. Perhaps they need to do a bit of tinkering.

  • What a treat once again Austin, I run out of supearlatives when watching your videos, in Welsh I can tell you it's Ardderchog!, Diolch yn fawr..5*..Bob

  • Thanks Bob, that sounds very kind of you. (I think!!) Seriously, I managed to translate but couldn't reply in Welsh as I would have wanted. Do you have a working knowledge of Scouse!!!

  • Ha ha great stuff, translated it was "Excellent thanks very much"..as far as Scouse is concerned, I understood Cilla Black once!..Bob

  • Great stuff Austin, that last sequence is superb, really going well, thanks for posting mate.......Matt Curtis.

  • Cheers Matt, glad you liked it. It's funny but the last shot was really the only one where she seemed to be running like we know she can, hopefully we will see her in 2009...Austin

  • Fabulous stuff! (again)

I understand that it may be sometime before the Duke is back on the mainline because of the sheer cost of it all? It must cost a fortune to run.

  • Thanks very much. She is at the East Lancs and having to run some trouble free miles after the last main line failure before returning to Network Rail metals. Cost will no doubt be a factor affecting all locos in the future.

  • I was onbored this beast on sunday, boy can she haul !

  • Sure can Sam, imagine what a fleet of them could have done!!

  • Aye, all my videos from the day are online on my channal, feel free to take a look if you wish !

  • These Classic shots are wonderful to see. Especially the first two in stunning conditions. Lovely jubly :-)

  • Thanks David, just about exhausted my Duke archive now!!
