You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of Conservative and Liberal. Conservatives want bigger government as far as domestic and foreign policy. That's what Bush has established. However, they're also very firm believers in Adam Smith's lassaiz-fair policy in the economic market. That means less regulation.
Liberals want less government in domestic and foreign affairs. However, they like regulation in the financial districts.
Too bad they wont give YOU less of it. No, no, they know what is best for you, Dorian. You need hypnotherapy, to say your prayers, and repent unto the lord for straightness.
Civil liberties or slightly less capital regulation? It is an odd bargain these parties strike with us. The Republican party has no principles anymore, neither does the conservative movement.
i agree, republicans have iffed it up in Bush terms. but democrats are far worse. its up to us to keep our reps accountable & get mccain & palin in there to cut the fat. and KEEP on them! seek out libertarian & conservative activists to shake it up. & do not go to race based groups! all communist more entitlements based on race... my god... COME ON!
Furthermore, the term "big government" is also a broad term which weakens your argument. In stating that liberals want more government, you imply that all conservatives do not. Hello? Have you been around the past 8 years when the government's powers have drastically increased?
You can't just use general terms such as "liberals" to criticize just as I can't say "conservatives" to make general statements. There are differences which you fail to recognize. For example, there are great differences between Reagan Conservatives and Bush "Conservatives." Today, there are conservatives who want Bush's big gov't and those who want the traditional small gov't. Due to Bush's policy, I fail to see how big gov't can be considered strictly a liberal thing.
liberalss are complaining about the Bush administration, we want more of a government we like not one like the Bush administration or the one mccain wants.
Yeah, like anyone has ever tapped your phone. If nothing else, thank your government for protecting your sorry ass all these years. It's the least you can do.
whoa buddy don't point fingers at liberals. look at conservatives. They might claim to be for limited government, but look at the amount federal institutions that have been installed by conservatives over the past few years: doubling the depart. of education, homeland security, federal funding of the Iraq War, etc.
Thanks Dorian for saying what many of us conservatives (which is what I am) and some independents (many of my friends) having been saying. Less government is what we need, and if it is needed - only in cases of natural disasters like Katrina or the recent floods. I'll admit the Bush administration is NOT perfect, but neither was the Clinton administration. I have news for the liberals, neither will a McCain or Obama administration either. Even my favorite president ever, Reagan had flaws...
"I'll admit the Bush administration is NOT perfect, but neither was the Clinton administration...Even my favorite president ever, Reagan had flaws..."
The structure of this comment made me laugh. Did you really feel that it was necessary to "admit" three presidents had flaws? Does the comparison of Bush making errors to Clinton making errors make Bush any less guilty of committing errors?
If you can't understand the point I was making, I really can't answer your question. However, in short, it is simply that it seems that all liberals feel that Clinton (and now Obama) can do no wrong. Well, I was just stating that Bush was no more at fault for the crises you so harp on than your cuddly Bill Clinton or the "almighty" Barack Obama.
"Well, I was just stating that Bush was no more at fault for the crises you so harp on than your cuddly Bill Clinton or the "almighty" Barack Obama."
Are you fucking nuts? When Bush came into office there was surplus, and look what he left it. Two wars, recession, omfg how can you say that. Reagan is another big spender, don't try to act like he wasn't either. He sure as fuck was.
@facefullofcum Obama will go down as the BIGGEST SPENDER in US history. He has already spent more than Bush did in his 8 years in office...in a year and a half.
I don't think that you should find it odd that there are a group of people in this country who want this government to be held accountable. They may like more government, but that is because they have hope that if their elected officials are held accountable, then maybe, just maybe, government can be a good thing. It is apathy like yours that makes way for fascist administrations to remain in power long after they should have been removed.
i think you're confusing systematic incompetence that can accompany unchecked big government with intentional manipulation of mass media and a sophisticated and a calculated project to bring a nation to war. it seems possible to have a small government run by sophisticated and powerful people that achieves the same end.
I hear lots of "conservatives" make this exact argument. My (liberal?) perspective is a little different: I see these Big Businesses and CEOs raking in record profits (steadily widening the income gap) and Bush Co. making money off war profiteering through Gov't expansion into the corporate realm. Conversely, I think the expansion should be for universal healthcare, a livable wage, and better standards for education--for the benefit of the greatest number of people and not just the plutocracy.
The Neo-Cons are big government for big business. Liberals are big government for the working/middle class. Libertarians are the only real Conservatives. The Republicans are not Conservatives. They're fascist by the classic definition that they want to give corporations free reign and severely curb the rights of the common people. The Democrats aren't much better, mind you.
Liberals want a government run by liberals, not conservatives. Of course liberals have problems with the government when conservatives are in charge. Their ideology is bankrupt. Conservatism has proven time and again to be a failed and corrupt philosophy.
Right on!

Liberal: YOUR governments have been bad, OURS have been pretty decent, we want some more of that again.
