Not that this is any of my business, but I care about people so I try to help anyway. Ya'll should stop arguing on the comment list. For one, it's childish. Secondly, I am sure that if you live on Earth you have much bigger problems than what the next asshole said to you or about you on the comment list. Sometimes it's best to just walk away and let people be ignorant on their own. One Love :-)

The real import of Codevilla's article (which can be taken as a distillation of his magnum opus _The Character of Nations_) is that politics -- not economics, nor culture -- that determines the character & fortunes of any given polity. Man is a political animal. His soul is composed of ruling & ruled elements. These are reified as "the political." Ergo, there are always rulers & ruled. And as a people attempts to shape politics, the people inevitably also shapes itself, for good or ill.
