Lots of people think morals come from the Bible. They are wrong. While man ponders over the meaning of existence and his purpose in life, he recognizes indelible truths, and then imagines that the god(s) he suscribes to created them. There is one maxim, for example, attributed to Jesus that wasn't recognized centuries before.

It's even better than that. Man creates some laws that embody the prevailing attitudes. Then creates a policeman of infinite power and total surveillance to enforce them. I don't know where christians get this idea of morals coming from the bible. I didn't see any morality in there. How about Deuterotomy 20:21. Stone your disobedient, drunk teenage son to death? Real moral stuff there.

Further, look at all of the Christians who think their faith is based on the Bible. Their holy book wasn't compiled and officiated until two centuries after the alleged crucifixion. Speaking of morals, I met Gene Robinson last night. Delightful person despite his delusional adherence to his belief in God.

So non-westerners must be barbarians? The bible is cherry-picked for passages that support today's moral standards. Genocide, slavery, sexism, human sacrifice, and many other things we regard as evil today were regarded as moral in biblical times. Morality is mostly a mixture of common sense and empathy.

Love, hope, and peace are words. Words that can be filled by anyones actions. Some people can us their belief in a god to express these, but some are able to express such feeling on their own quite easily. There was good before Jesus was around, I don't see why there still can't be.

Wrong. On the Mount he championed sexual repression. He said that the mere desire for carnal activity is tantamount to committing the act. This is an invitation to bury natural impulses under ground. It is a root cause of so much violence, anxiety, frustration, and guilt. He also believed in hell, a doctrine that has brought a lot of cruelty and suffering into the world.
