As You sow Your love in my garden, let me keep custody of my eyes- that they may flee from anything that is not Your face, my empty countenance escaping into the world, only filth, mere expression , lost to the four winds all too quickly. You will vanquish the emptiness of my desire, the desert that lives inside my heart, my soul, then, O G*d my G*d, then You will brand Your mighty name upon the heart of my heart, and the blood of my blood, and I will know Your Power-
You are every corner of the world, You! You, O my Life! You will protect me, You will always give me strength so that I may guard my tongue, so that it may not sing of any love of mine which is not You. Even all my sorrow- the smallest longing of my sadness- the anguish that are my tears- the bitter vinegar that is the anger of my will- these, each one, by the kiss of Your love, You will raze to the earth.
Praise You, O G*d, my G*d! You are grafted onto the doorway of my heart, Your spirit guards my soul, which You call Your home. You, O G*d, are the sentinel of my eternity. The brilliance of Your love- the sublime touch of Your power, all directed to any who would wish me harm. You, O G*d, never slumber, You take no rest inside the silver universe that is Your Being; every word... every breath from Your mouth... each caress of Your arms- by them am I cradled in the joy of the everlasting.
this is a beutifull hymn but none the less isnt actually a hymn chanted during a liturgy. liturgy hymn are not this long and do not cover the basis this hymn does. the hymns sung are those of cherubic hymn before the great entrance etc. this hymn may be a rendering of liturgy psalm and hymn but is not a liturgy hymn. this could perhaps be hymns from an orthros service before the liturgy
@chechimpa34 : I can assure you this is a Cherubic Hymn of the Week (ie used in Divine Liturgy on Sundays). What you are referring to are probably calophonic Cherubic Hymns, which are quite longer (30+ minutes). I do not know whether they use shorter and plainer versions of this hymn in the US, but where I attend this hymn here is common (in respective tones every week).
@Callixtinus i am not denying that it isnt i am just saying that within the cinfinds of the greek orthodox church which i am located in do nt sing this hymn this long. the hymn is prepared before the great entrance. The hymn is said not sung and even in the book that we read out of it is not this elaborate. I am sure of this because as the priests serve at the alter i am an alter boy. I am not a deacon but a helper who guides the priest with candles or a censor. Being so i am on the alter serv
Here in america alot of the times with the advent of choirs kinda taking over, many of the cherubic hymns are shortened or reworked to work for many voices. Also, it is a very rare thing that they would chant the cherubic hymn in the the weekly tone. The tonal systems are really only applied for prokeminon's, troparia, kontakia, and the Lord I have Called tones. When it comes to the hymns of the liturgy or how something is done in ephkonesis, the tones have lost their place.
@TheSacredHeart2: I have and I agree it's beautifully done. Being able to understand it in Koine Greek though, it sounds a bit weird to me in english. It's not that it lacks spirituality; but Koine gives the Liturgy a more mystic, ancient power. I guess, though that for native speakers of the english language it will appeal greatly owing to the fact that they will be able to clearly comprehend what is being chanted. Maybe I will post a piece or two from it in the future.
If I might say, the hymn is cut off a bit at the end ("May the Lord God remember you all in His kingdom..." spoken by the priest and the continuation of the hymn, "That we may receive the King of all..." are absent).
As for it being cut off, I had to edit the last part due to time restrictions. The reasonable place to cut the chant was at "...υποδεξόμενοι", because there the chant has an absolute termination, ie it terminates in Gha, which is the base note of the Third Tone (else the melody would sound absurd, like having a "hanging" end).
CD called "The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom" by the Greek Byzantine Choir, director Lycourgos Angelopoulos. Can be found in internet music shops easily.

Yes, my G*d, take me-
draw me close-
breathe me in, O my G*d,
and take me as the groom takes His bride,
and I will be Yours for all my days. Amen

the hush that is Your desire-
the calm that is the holy temptation of Your embrace,
the stillness that is the agonizing ecstasy of Your arms
and the burning love,
the passion that is the whisper of Your sweet breath upon my face.
In all their majesty, they will remind me...
that I am Your child,
a small reminder of Your light in the vastness of the world.

this is piece is composed by Gregorios Protopsaltis, one of the cherubic hymns of the "week" in Constantinopolitan practice.

Indeed, the more elaborate Cherubic Hymns were much longer. This one though is a very nice sample chanted in a distinguished way.

This is by the Greek Byzantine Choir, isn't it?

I see. I actually own a copy of this; it makes for a very good listening. The choir's rendition of Byzantine Chant is just, powerful.

May I ask what copy that is and where i can get it? This Cheroubikon is a beautiful one.
