Jv whites mainly feed on fish not much unlike makos. Where else is better to eat fish than fl waters. I have a friend that is a fishing guide in west palm beach and he has seen them around a few times. The spear would have just pissed it off if it was to rush him it would be like shooting a bb at a train.
This is a Great White Shark, un questionable ,, I have dove with many GWS. and have been diving and spearfishing here in Panama for over 50 years and have seen all type of sharks and this is defiantly a GWS.. I have spearfished in Florida many times many years ago and lucky never run into one,, many bulls and tigers though. You can see some videos I posted with the GWS at Guadalupe. You are a brave dude though alone deep in murky water.
the people saying this is a bull shark probably couldnt tell the difference between a goldfish and an octopus. ITs a GREAT WHITE and yes they migrate through florida in the winter. A bull shark? What?
Lol, all the experts claiming bull shark? The only bull is what your typing on your screen. Two claims 1) Why a white shark in Florida? Well you knowledge is like 40 years out of date, White Shark can be found from Sub Arctic to tropical sea's, either sporadically or as part of migration patterns. 2) Looks, how the fuck can that look like anything other than a GWS? The snout is the biggest give away, and it has that smile, that only GWS has.
unfortunately, not a great white (proven by shape of tail) due to tail and coloration of fins appears to be a bull shark. If I was down there and saw that, I would probably imagine great white too!!! Video is believable though, maybe a 7 or 8 ft bull.
@flatsandvb hahaah idiot, its a GWS, no doubt. have you ever been in the water with a GWS??? I have. I don't even see any diving videos on your youtube channel?
@flatsandvb were u drunk when u wrote that comment? look at a pic of a great white and a bull shark and then refer back to this video and compare. if u still believe its a bull shark then u should probably stay far away from any ocean...for ur safety and those around u of course
@blueboner20 and @akula1085 - if this is a young white shark why is it in the Sebastian Inlet? Oh that's right, it has no reason to be there. Plus there isn't anything for a growing GREAT WHITE there. Seriously, it doesn't take a genius to figure this out. If you know anything about these sharks you'd know that. Don't believe me? Go check out google or wikipedia about it, if you even care to check facts. The only thing this shark can be is a Great White Hoax... aka Bull Shark. Sorry.
wao u got balls off steel man awsome i never thought that they were in fl 2 2 days ago i was fishing like 15 miles off shore miami and get in the watrer 2 film the catch off the day but i would think better if i knew that before....... nice vid thanks for sharing

I have some information regarding a white shark in Jupiter Fl, can be the same or another one. They are anywhere. In 1945 one was capture ei cuban waters and was 6.4 metres and 3,270 kg. as IGFA confirm.
LOl whoever says this is a bullshark is retarded and watches too much shark week. I would have shit myself dude, you remained way too calm. Pretty dangerous diving that deep solo. Nice vid man
Not many people would have stayed that calm. But I wouldn't be out there on my own. Shark or no shark especially at that depth. But I'd go back for more video that was awsome!
Check out that BULL SHARK! Great Whites live in colder water with supplies of larger food, like seals and tuna, especially when they're small like this. Did you see any of those too? Bull sharks hang out in brackish water, like where you were in the Sebasitan Inlet. Great Whites don't have a tolerance for freshwater like Bull sharks do. There isn't anything you can do to make this a Great White shark. You fooled some people, wrong shark, maybe next time.
@splintmedia No, this is a White Shark. Look at the video at 3:11, look at the tail. The Bull Shark has a long upper caudal fin (tail fin), and the White Shark as an even caudal like this one. It's true that Bulls are more likely to be in Florida waters, I've seen 30+ there, it isn't unheard of for Whites to appear from time to time.
@Victord2000 maybe you should pause it at 3:11 instead of just looking casually, the upper caudal fin is way bigger than the bottom. You're right, that's a great way to know it's a Bull Shark. This shark looks like it was less than 10ft, at that size it wouldn't have even reached maturity yet if it was a Great White. Adults are 13-22ft or more, if it was a Great White, it would be in much richer food waters. This is in the size range for a Bull Shark though, granted it is a big Bull Shark.
Also, the last time I went out was at Spanish House were a 11+ foot great hammerhead just rolled around two of us for too long. Took 10 minutes to get back in and the shark stayed within 50 feet of us the entire time.
I have seen whales and huge turtles and lots of sharks in Sebastian over the years. I have tried to tell people that great whites are out there. This video confirms! You must have been freaking out. Very cool video.
well shit why were you 170 for jack ? great vid, i'da been out of the water on that one . nice job stayin calm . did you think you decinded a little fast?
wow. this shits crazy. ive beeen spearfishing and diving of south florida and the keys for year and took comfort in knowing that i would probably never run into a great white. this changes shit.
If you're going to bounce 170fsw I'd carry a 50% off gas bottle ( I carry a Bail out in addition too) I'm sure you know what your doing but had to mention it. Awesome shit. You Brevard divers have some serious balls between the VIS, COLD, Sharks and now great whites... I'm staying down here in Palm Beach to play with the bulls...
Fuck Bro!! That would be time to leave. It's a juvenile but still a white for sure. Still big enough to cut you in half with one hit. They almost always strike from below and your on the bottom. I've ready many witness acounts of divers getting hit and it was always as they ascended close to the surface. One of our charter boats caught one 2 years ago in 350 and one this year in 220 in front of PE Ft Lauderdale. Both 300-375lbers 1 was accidentally boated the other only photographed.
Hell, how did you not crap your wetsuit???? I would have been definitely getting the bends getting the hell outta there!!! Thanks so much for sharing! I'll still admire them from behind a screen (TV, monitor, etc!)!
I'm also a scuba diver & certified very near here & am curious to know what time of day this was ? And did you make any eye contact with shark? Or feel he knew & aware of your presence? I love learning/studying sharks as well. Also caught a bull shark in walkers cay Bahamas in approximately 12 ft. water at mouth of inlet, he was 10 1/2 feet & weighed 408 pounds!
My nephew shot the video. He says 170' is a typo. The video was shot at 70 feet. How sure are we about identification of the animal as a Great White Shark?
Cool video, looks too light for 170. Not sure why anyone is even trying to shoot jacks. Cool shark though. I'd keep all 3 bands locked and loaded, just for the false sense of security if nothing else...
I free dive and scuba dive a few miles south of Sebastian Inlet. Only seen some bull, black tip, and reef never a great white I would be getting the heck outta dodge real fast.
this is going to freak me out every time i swim there and in Vero.they pulled everyone out of the water 2 weeks ago because of a large shark sighting.
Incredible footage! (And as a local, incredibly scary!) My heart is still in my throat, many minutes after watching it on someone's facebook wall. Was your upload the actual date you took the video?
@Limbofishful based on your assumption that this was nitrox, I do not see how you can declared yourself as an advanced diver...plus he said it was only 70 feet in the comments
Looks like a Great White to me - notice how it comes in in the classic attack configuration pectoral fins lowered in an inverted v classic great white pre attack behaviour then the fins raise again as the shark notices it is actually a diver. Possibly the sight of the spear gun as these fish are now becomming weary of spear fishernen my have averted s nasty encounter.
@stormwalkernz No offense but everyone seems to think that if the pecs are down it wants to attack. The attack posture also includes an arched back and exaggerated back and forth swinging of the head. This is more like a case of shark and diver being surprised by each other, shark changes course quickly by dropping the pecs and leaving. I am an underwater photographer and have lots of photos of sharks with their pecs down. Most of the images were captured in non-aggressive situations.
@drk321 no offence taken its good to hear from someone with experience in this. Shark behaviour has always interested me - you are right though dont know who got the bigger shock the diver or the shark lol. Thanks for replying.
@RazzedHD skimboarding doesnt count for anything, its certainly not something you say about yourself, its kind of the equivalent of saying "hey i run as fast as i can and jump head first into sand" just makes you look dumb.
@cruizer8293 You must not know what skimboarding is. Take a look at Exile Skimboards Channel on YouTube and maybe you will change your opinion. We take pride in what we do.
Dude, you got some balls!! I can't imagine a more bone-chilling, hair-raising scenario: 170' deep in murky water, face to face with nature's most perfect killing machine, no cage, just a one-shot spear gun, which might as well be a pea-shooter. You could see his intrigue with your presence, too. He definitely was heading in your direction until he got within about 10 feet. Nice footage, my friend. I was nervous the entire video.
That was awesome but who bothers to shoot amberjacks? Oily fish only good for bait. But, maybe the diver is into bait since at 3:00, he was indeed the THE bait.
Sketch!!!!!! I probably would have swam up as fast as i could, even though the pressure would do more damage. I just think it would be my first reaction. Probably scariest footage ive ever seen, creeping out of that dark murky green water, pause it at 3:02 it's looking right at him. Proud to be a Floridian and will dive and surf here for the rest of my life!!!!
there are definitely whites off the coast of florida. when you get down 100 feet or so, they will be lurking in the colder water.
first rule of scuba diving... never panic. second rule of scuba diving... never panic. down there, if you panic, you die. this guy did an absolutely amazing job keeping his cool and not shooting up like a cork.
@kbhgemini one that doesnt wanna run out of air at 170 ft.. yeah hes the moron...lets see you do 170 on one breath hold and come up with fish really.. try it :) we need less of you in this world :D
dang no sir am i not going in the waters in sebastain ever. i do go in vero. i never knew they could swim in the waters in Fl. thats crazy i wonder if its been near vero yet..
That's incredible! Most studies show Daytona as the most southern they've been seen, usually closer to Jacksonville, much less in summer when they're usually near Mass. or Canada in cooler waters. Bravo for not soiling your suit.

Holy crap. That is scary. What day was this, I was there on Father's day, it would have been creepy for there to have been a shark nearby.

That was awesome but who bothers to shoot amberjacks? Oily fish only good for bait. But, maybe the diver is into bait since at 3:00, he was indeed the THE bait.
fla4xhit 8 months ago
Sketch!!!!!! I probably would have swam up as fast as i could, even though the pressure would do more damage. I just think it would be my first reaction. Probably scariest footage ive ever seen, creeping out of that dark murky green water, pause it at 3:02 it's looking right at him. Proud to be a Floridian and will dive and surf here for the rest of my life!!!!
zombie2fresh 8 months ago
there are definitely whites off the coast of florida. when you get down 100 feet or so, they will be lurking in the colder water.
first rule of scuba diving... never panic. second rule of scuba diving... never panic. down there, if you panic, you die. this guy did an absolutely amazing job keeping his cool and not shooting up like a cork.

@TTahnMilanski That was my very first thought. It's a testament to his training how well he kept his cool.

Spearing amberjack doesn't make a lot of sense to me, (especially in poor visablity) but kewl video though. Hope you make it on Shark week!!
Definitely a White, but I have a feeling the camera saw it first. (a little delayed reaction..me thinks)
Just can't stop watching this...I'm gasping for air!! :)

A white was caught by long liners some years back one mile out, so I believe this could be a white.........or a huge bull....

coolgirl32960 8 months ago
No doubt that was a white shark, if you think otherwise you need to pick up a copy of The Awesome Book of Sharks it might help!
dazed2040 8 months ago
That's incredible! Most studies show Daytona as the most southern they've been seen, usually closer to Jacksonville, much less in summer when they're usually near Mass. or Canada in cooler waters. Bravo for not soiling your suit.
