i have this computer but i hate it.... its not that "great" for me, it over heats and the battery it horrible, its slow and when i turn off it can barely turn back on... but i am going to dump it for a Gateway NV5387u or something else... but please dont get this PC!
@GraviFreak Mine does too. That and I've had to restore it to factory condition twice due to hardware or software problems. I love my laptopppy but sometimes the problems it gives me are maddening. One time my friend touched the bottom of it after we'd been searching the web for something-or-the other, and she could've sworn she burnt the tip of her finger.
Just get the upgrade one with 4gb ddr3 and a 500 gb harddrive with intel because amd chip suck it is slow as fuck when you can get intel that runs better and faster and has a name that u can trust(intel)
I just bought this computer and i must admit that it looks cool and is very fun to use... mine is a dv6000-2028ca(black) and it has been good to me so far. it cost $875.00 and it came with a free noton 360 ani viris, a free printer and just to rub it in...it came with windows 7.
That model has been discontinued for a long time. Don't forget the extended warranty with any HP notebook as the motherboard will be toast just after a year!
Don't listen to the guy below me, I've had no problems with this laptop and I bought it over a year ago now, the amount of things I've done to it accidentally and it still works as well s it did. 2 problems though if you are going to buy it:
1) It gets really hot quickly, especially if you rest it on your lap and don't let the fans get the heat out fully. Although when in does get really hot nothing seems to happen performance wise.
2) The battery life is baddddd, like an hour at the most!

IBook sucks. And add to your list of what it's good for as:
Videos, listening to music (awesome audio thanks to the speaker which spans the width of the laptop creating dynamic surround sound), searching for applications (I think the quick start search applies to all Vista products, but it's still quite convenient), and desktop windows (desktop windows manager makes it look stylish).
And I can't think of anything else different than my old Acer XP Laptop yet...
I have no complaints with mine...except it came with 2 slots..each has 512mb. I want to upgrade (to 4GB) but it says max capacity is 2GB. can i do a bios update? Has anyone done that?

I think that software should develop in a way that makes it more user effective without having to use more PC resources. That way we have a more useful Operating System, while keeping your laptop cool and happy, leaving more capacity for those PC melting programs. But can't expect more from those who cannot read the V on the side description.

First of all: like a half year after buying this, this computer just frozed up, and when I went to hp-service, they "didn't" find anything defective??? WTF? and then after 2 months of complain, angry emails and phone calls they finally gave me a new laptop. Yey! The laptop is sturdy for a consumer grade notebook, decent price for the performance, in that time 2GB of RAM were a big plus, today 2gigs is the standard and 4 gigs is the best. The downside of this laptop, the processor and graphic card, produces a lot of heat! and is a 90nm processor. These laptops under perform with vista coz they are loaded w/ massive junkware

A word of advice to anyone with a dv6000, back up your data frequently. When the wireless card craps out, it's only a matter of time before the video card dies, and then backing up your hard drive becomes a real hassle.
First, for some people, it's not that simple. Not everyone knows how to do that. I do, but I'm assuming there are a lot of people who don't.
Also, in dv6000s, the HDD tends to die at the same time as the video card, and then you're stuck paying a shitload of money for data retrival. I'm trying to help people, there's no reason for you to be an obnoxious little prick about it.
srr. already sold and i got and ibook g4 1.6ghz with 1gb ram, mac os 10.4. runs like a dream, i wish i gotten an ibook soner. I didnt know what i was missing. Im gonna be mac user from now on. Fuck windows, this baby boots 3 times faster than windows and runs programs and everything a lot more faster. THANK YOU APPLE!! And it only cost $450.00 on ebay.

32 bit. but the Intel Core 2 Duo series all have 64bit support. its not really usefull unless you have more than 2gb ram or a quadcore.

me too. the sound is not so good, i mean it's not loud enough and you have to use a speaker. i heard a lot of problems about dv6000...

I can change it, but good luck then gettin all the drivers because they come only for windows vista, no xp drivers. I already did it with a very similar hp. The vista wannabe monopoly...

I have a question. i just got this laptop today, and on the top right corner of the screen is says pavillion dv6000. then when i go into system maintenance in control panel, it says pavillion dv6700. which of those is right?

Hi, at the top of the right it means "HP Pavilion DV6000 SERIES" Also, you have the dv6700.

I have the same one with the new Intel Chip, fastest 15.5 HP laptop so far, one problem with HP-The keyboard is warped, I went back to the store and looked at other 15 HPs and they were all the same, Look at the Right/Left Click mouse buttons there not evenHey come with vista only and IE keeps crashing, I asked if I can swap for XP they said the drives are not compatible,

Yes my wireless just stop 2 days ago! I've had it for a year now. I Had to Reboot it a month after I got it! I Lost EVERYTHING! My ACadapter stop working on the same day the warranty was up! If you're a rich and simple this computer is okay, however if you're a college student who's money isn't a free,then I wouldn't recommend the DV6000 or a Dell! I'd say go Apple or just do your research or try this A MONTH BEFORE THE YEAR WARRANTY IS UP SMASH YOUR COMPUTER AND GET A NEW 1 FREE UNDER WARRANTY!

Well their sending for my computer now I'll be sending to the factory in a day or two. so they'll replacing the MOTHERBOARD!!!! If thats not the problem then I'll have to pay $139 for a new wireless chip!

My sister has that same laptop, dv6353us, she bought it a year ago from officemax, i suppose you bought from the same place either. The laptop is sturdy for a consumer grade notebook, decent price for the performance, in that time 2GB of RAM were a big plus, today 2gigs is the standard and 4 gigs is the best. The downside of this laptop, the processor and graphic card, produces a lot of heat! and is a 90nm processor. These laptops under perform with vista coz they are loaded w/ massive junkware

A word of advice to anyone with a dv6000, back up your data frequently. When the wireless card craps out, it's only a matter of time before the video card dies, and then backing up your hard drive becomes a real hassle.

First, for some people, it's not that simple. Not everyone knows how to do that. I do, but I'm assuming there are a lot of people who don't.
Also, in dv6000s, the HDD tends to die at the same time as the video card, and then you're stuck paying a shitload of money for data retrival. I'm trying to help people, there's no reason for you to be an obnoxious little prick about it.

srr. already sold and i got and ibook g4 1.6ghz with 1gb ram, mac os 10.4. runs like a dream, i wish i gotten an ibook soner. I didnt know what i was missing. Im gonna be mac user from now on. Fuck windows, this baby boots 3 times faster than windows and runs programs and everything a lot more faster. THANK YOU APPLE!! And it only cost $450.00 on ebay.
