The theme of this is so heart-rending, and the rondo like setting gives this Requiem such a nice structure. Interesting to note his avoidance of counter-point except at a few moments - really heightens the effect rather than just giving a perfunctury fugato. Where is this recording from?
Salieri is brilliant, a master piece in his time and YES t is great, maybe not too much as Mozart but is not only a fine piece, is one of the great compoer.
Salieri didn't killed Mozart. The Requiem "affair" was cleared now: a rich poland man used to buy operas from famous composer and pretend to be the composer in front of his friends. A copy of Mozart's Requiem was found in his library. Salieri was a good (embedded we can say) court composer. Mozart was a genius BUT living a bad life...
I agree, Salieri was an outstanding composer and deserves a much better reputation, but people bag on him because of the silly Mozart rumors. And even if he did kill Mozart, he was still an excellent composer.
I'm italian and, as i've always told, Salieri has been really a great composer, but he has been too much damaged by the silly legend with Mozart (that represents the personitfication of reaction of German music against the hegemony of italian opera in '700).
I hope this excellet composer can gain the place he deserves in history of music.
I'm very impressed by how Salieri handles the text here and in the previous movements. This is no doubt Requiem-writing at its best; a shame this piece isn't better-known! Thanks for uploading this.
Nice to hear an oppinion by someone who is not a Salieri fan or stranger to classicism. I obviously like (most) of this requiem, but I can't trust my own judgement because I'm a Salieri fan too, no fundamentalist like some, but still...
Well, nobody will know what happened with Salieri and Mozart. I think they are the best duo

I'm tearing again. To say this is a master piece is like saying the sun is hot.

It reminds me a bit of Haydn's Harmoniemesse (B-flat No. 14).

I don't know where it's from, there's no info included. Some sort of radio broadcast I presume.

It's a pity Salieri didn't kill Mozart - he'd probably be more appreciated today ; )

The ending may feel somewhat abrupt but I thought that Lacrimosa deserves it's own video.
