Ok. Nice one. Your theory has legs - real issue may be over 'to what degree' it has attracted those of non-hetero inclination - and at what point may positive feedback have 'suffocated' the church as more of a gay club than a source of teaching. ie At what point was the church more Gay than Religious.

Is this why they don't want women to be priests? Ha ha. I think your suspicions, are probably what I have been feeling, for a long time. I knew something was wrong with those people. I was raised in catholic schools. Those people were cruel, condescending, and cold, ice cold. I ran. A friend in high school, told me that most of the nuns, who taught us, were gay. I never believed it. I was naive. Do I really want to know the truth about everything? Ugh! Great video.
This is utterly amazing. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. So many of the points you brought up were pieces of history I learned in HS and college. I had my own suspicions but could never quite connect the dots. You so perfectly illustrated it. I only wish my Christian aunt would be open-minded enough to watch this and then maybe accept my gay uncle for who he is by finally taking the Church off it's hetero pedestal.
You know, dzseff, you and I probably are not on the same page concerning sexual ethics (I'm one of those Catholic Traditionalists, who in our angst have spotted you so many sources) but I have to applaud this.
Nicely done, and pretty much spot on, I think.
Fr. John Harris (webmaster, St. Sebastian's Angels) was my parish priest... I've been mulling the history, and came to many of your same conclusions..
The problem's not sodomy, at least not essentially. It's hypocrisy.
Its hilarious how people can always twist and manipulate the past to support their own viewpoint today.
The gay mafia and the protestant evangelicals are in opposite ends but both share the notoriety of reinterpreting the past that suits their immediate needs.
The usual over sexed 21st century mind trying to critique great art. News for you guy. Not everyone that does a naked female wants to have sex with her and the same goes for the male figure. Get a life.
Sexual pleasure and attraction are inducements to participation in the reproductive act. There is no logic or reason for a same sex attraction. Especially since they can't mate.
Speaking as someone with a history major, and a minor in sociology i have to say that their are to many wholes in your theory to promote any intellectual response. You make some interesting points but avoid relating them to the social context of the time period, or the society you are talking about. Humanity has not always taught as we do now in the 21st century.
Your theory needs to revolve around this idea. Mainly my problem is your lack of understanding in these categories: religious history, medieval history, the history of persecution, and the history of popular culture. You also lack knowledge of basic sociological understandings, such as social cultures and culture shock.
"Spelling" comment was a reply to Future Sister, not this video. It is a terrific video and hope the Vatican shows the video in Vatican square for all feast days!
Great work! I vividly remember my (very openly gay) art history teacher in college telling us tales of his life in the seminary before he resigned. i think his comment was along the lines of "what other career path for a gay man can compete with being paid to hang out with lots of other like-minded men?"
dude, most sculpture was based on previous Greek works, and the Greeks were into the beauty of the human body. They weren't obssessed with it, they saw it as a beautiful work. When later sculptures around the Renaissance period began sculpting, they used the Greek ideas (and the Roman ones which were copied from the Greeks). Having nude statues doesn't make them nor Michelangelo gay, it just means that they wanted to express the beauty of God's image which He gave us.
uhm... michaelangelo and many other historic figures were proven gays... actually.. what is wrong with gay guys? there nicer then most straight guys. im straight and i cansee that... but thats beside the point he was gay and there is ALOT of gay ppl in church and the church actually put down women BECAUSE it was run by gay men.
Clever video. However it, perhaps indirectly, promotes stereotypes of gay men and catholics that have been rampant for centuries in both europe and the US. Namely, that gay men are part of clandestine, urbanite elites and extravagant "superfluous" lives and that Catholics are part of a corrupt international organization.
Mind blowing stuff, Dzeff. If I get what you're saying, you're telling us the Catholic Church is ruled by a gay elite and that's been the case since practically the time of St Peter. Not only that, but the treasures of Western Civilization - including classic Greece and the Renaissance - were largely the creations of a gay elite. It's going to take me some time to wrap my head around this one!
What the heck did I just watch?
I don't know? The line about them opening brothels to cure homosexuals in the 1400s...hee hee hee :op
This guy just goes on and on and on...dropping bombs everywhere. OMGoodness...luther too

I dont think it matters; you'll always have sinners in the Church...we're only human. Who cares.

Gentalia has been present in art for centuries. This does not mean that every painter and sculptor in recorded history was gay.
