@artidiot that tp-7 looks interesting and I'll bet it works well. for interviews you can set the mic on a stand [that it comes with] and turn on front and rear mics. the sound from all sides will likely be just fine.
@nickisgood4u alas no. flip is all self-contained. I use the flip video and replace the flip's audio with audio recorded to another device. This is fairly simple in many video editors. I'll make a video soon to show how i do in in sony vegas. Subscribe to keep informed. Many thanks for the visit and comment ;-)
Hey Randy - really enjoyed your review. I'm curious how the H2 does with handling noises - like if the operator's fingers shift while gripping it; how much interference does that pick up, would you say?
@happyicecream1234 the mic picks up lots of noise if youre handling it or clicking keys etc - my best results are using the external lav mic - if an ext mic is used then the builtins are off and it fits beautifully in a pocket. if you want to use the builtins then place it on the stand or a little tripod or mic stand. comes with accessories for this
How well will the H2 record at a distance? If I wanted to shoot an interview, and didn't want the mic in the shot, will it sound like the person is far from the mic? Maybe have the mic 5ft away from the person speaking.
V. useful - thanks for this Randy! I have to say, I'm definitely put off by the complexity issue. I'm something of a technophobe on the sly. And...I hate manuals; all too often the translations are poor, or else manufacturers simply haven't spent on good writing and editing. They often read like they're an afterthought. I need "intuitive" not complicated. So hmmm - I need to shop around, I think.
you must record the video with the camera and the audio on the Zoom. Then you put the two together in your video editor. Not too complicated to do. Wireless mic should work fine but I never have used one with this. I will make a more in-depth how-to video if you like so please subscribe. Thanks.
I'm curious. Can I record direct to video with this? Can it be wireless recording? or will it require a cord? For the video you did, was it direct? Or mounted to video after?
@tubeyouSachy Yes if you have an external mic - Ive used it at events where I put in my computer bag and snake a lav mic out and clip it to the outside of the bag. I crank up the gain and recording level to max and let it go. Batteries run 3-4 hours for me and the 1GB SD card will go about 12 hrs at mp3.128. Very cool stuff, but play nice ;-)
@theezvideoguy Did you try the Yamaha C24 ? Only two mics (Zoom H2 has 4) but much better autonomy (more than 20 hours with a single AAA battery in MP3 mode), and *very* compact.
@idiosyncrazy1980 That looks cool and should work basically the same. I havent really looked into other recorders. The H1 is interesting too as I like the Ez-ier price ;-)
How do you synch the audio from the H2 to the video. Does the H2 connect to the camera ?

Hi,
Can you record telephone interviews with the Zoom H2?
I have an Olympus tp-7 hands-free earpiece from a previous cheaper recorder.
Also, is the Zoom H2 suitable for interviewing several people sat around a table?
How about use for recording a podcast? Do you think the sound will be a sufficient quality?
Thanks for any feedback.

@artidiot Don't know about the telephone question, but, interviewing is great and great quality too. Buy it.

No. The two do not connect. I edit the two together in the editor in 'post-production'
I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio [love it!]

Does this actually connect to the flip?
