awesome explanation. in ortho, we need demonstration to understand a test and this video makes my knee examination easier. While my friends still getting confused as they memories words instead of video. I ask them to watch in utube, too bad nobody wants to. They prefer books.
Putting the joint into Varus stress (bow leg) is specific to the medial meniscus. The physician, whom im guessing is an orthopedist, is absolutely correct. Varus and valgus refer to the direction of the joint, not the direction of the force applied. In Varus stress the tibia is directed towards the midline, the opposite is true of Valgus stress (knock knee).
@coreybrooks618 It is varus. anyway, this whole varus valgus thing is confusing. Just remember in knee, joint/force away from midline, is varus. anything towards midline is valgus. Same goes to ankle deformity.
you havent said how to differentiate between medial and lateral meniscus tears? I thought medial meniscus tears required internal rotatation and varus stress???
Thank you so much! I was looking for an explanation of this, and couldn't find anything very effective in my textbook. This completely cleared things up.
I've done a lot of You Tube searches for ortho exams and Dr. Hutchinson's series is the best for the knee. Thanks so much. Please do the shoulder! I won't criticize your model like these other jerkos. Thanks
how to if the test is positive ?
plz answer me tomorrow will be the exam

You apply VALGUS stress, not Varus. Otherwise, great video!

how long after a knee dislocation should you wait before performing this test? Pain and swelling after a dislocation can last 7-12 days or so
Thanks in advance

combine this with an appelys test and joint line tenderness and locking in flexion and then you MIGHT have meniscal damage, possibly, maybe.
