@tribalmasters: It does, but S-video is a good option for those who don't have a way of using RGB. RGB is a fairly pricey option here in the US whereas S-video is widespread and can be found on most TVs. I use RGB now along with an RGB monitor which makes S-video totally moot for me, but at the time I had a Commodore 1702 which only had either composite or S-video.
Pal Megadrives have RGB output as standard, no mod required. Is that not true for the genesis? I'm just wondering why you would want an s-video output when it already has RGB.
@KeyToTime The Genesis does output RGB, but most of us in the US have no way of using it, short of getting an expensive RGB monitor or SCART to component converter (which is what I use now). S-video is the next best thing here and at the time, I only had a Commodore 1702 monitor which only accepted composite or S-video.
@TheDajjal1 It's not VGA actually. VGA is similar to RGB but the refresh rate is twice that of RGB (31 KHz vs. 15 KHz), so you can't use a Genesis on a VGA monitor unless you had a scan converter or something.
@ApolloBoy Thanks for the info back then probably hookup with a tv card. I have my dreamcast with a vga hookup ran it through 2 tv's one had vga and the other rgb. Unfortunately it only works good on a small amount of games. Soul Caliber and a tennis game awsome, but not good for jagged RE and no Mortal Kombat. I bought a s-video from Sears fro the DC and it's B&W and grainy. I was so dissapointed.
@mistertitanic: All Genesis/Mega Drive consoles are set to a certain region, it's just the early ones don't have TMSS, which blocks out certain third-party games. Non-TMSS consoles are actually quite easy to find, it's not like I modded an extremely rare console or anything.
@mistertitanic: Look for a "High Definition Graphics" Genesis and then look at the bottom of the system. If the little FCC sticker doesn't have a silver strip with patent numbers on it, then it's a system that doesn't have TMSS. They're not quite as easy to find as most Genesis consoles, but they're still fairly common.
@ApolloBoy That will be difficult for me since Most ebay actuons don't show the bottom of the system, and in most stores, the Genesis is in a glass case...
wow thats awesome genesis. Im currently working on mine ...so far just led change next project will be the svideo and eventually get the sega cd add on . CANT WAIT
S-Video DOES look a lot better. I'd totally do that, but I don't have any spare S-Video cords or solder, and my iron is broken. :( I guess something to save for, eh? :D
@ianwilson1978: If I ever get a TV with component, I'll wind up getting a SCART cable in addition to one of those SCART to component converters that pop up on eBay.
Wow that is a great mod. I wouldn't mind a link to the s-video mod as well.
In the Netherlands/PAL area there are Scart (RBG video) cables available for Model I and Model II Megadrives which will do the same to a PAL model without the need to mod your console. I am not sure wether this sort of thing is available to NTSC systems too?

Where can i get a megadrive sticker?
rccarz5 2 months ago
@rccarz5 I actually made that from scratch. What I did was I found a high-res Mega Drive logo, did a bit of editing in Photoshop and printed it out.

Does American genesis not feature RGB scart? That's a super sharp option, no modding required!

Dude! You have one that doesn't have lockout? Don't mod it! leave it as original as it is! I would die to have one of those!

Is the Japanese Mega Drive logo on your console a sticker or did you paint it on?

@OkamiAuraHenshin: I printed out the MD logo, cut it to size and taped it on.
