  • Very nice! Is that from The Fiddler's Fakebook? It sounds like the sheet music version from that book.

  • @ivanrorick Yes, that was played right out of the Fiddler's Fakebook. I learned quite a few tunes from that book. Thanks!

  • You are a great fiddler, good tone, good use of double stops, drone, excellent bowing, all the right moves. Do you play any Monroe tunes? Jenny Lynn, Candy Gal, Road to Columbus, etc.?

  • Thanks! I do play a few Monroe tunes! I have Road to Columbus and Gold Rush videos posted...I haven't got to play Jenny Lynn or Candy Gal yet, but I'll eventually get to them...Thanks for stopping by!

  • I noticed you said you don't normally cross tune your fiddle. You can play Candy Gal and Jenny Lynn without it but you really get the old mountain sound by doing so. For Candy Gal, you tune the G String to A, the D string to E, leave the A as A, but tune the E string down to C#, which is the same combination for Black Mountain Rag.

Jenny Lynn is the same except the E string is tuned to E.

  • You are right about the old mountain sound. I just recently posted Black Mountain Rag cross tuned AEAC#. I just bought another fiddle, so I'll be able to keep one cross tuned and one with standard tuning. This way I won't have to retune all the time.. =D

  • That is what I do. I have my wife's grandfather's filddle and have it tuned to AEAC#. I can play Candy Gal anytime I want. Then I have both my great uncles's fiddles and keep one tuned to play Jenny Lynn. Keep up your good work. I like to tune you in to help my learning tunes.

  • Great number, well played. Good hornpipe tempo.

  • sounds great gary!

  • Thanks Alex! I haven't played Marmaduke's but just a couple times, but I'll give it a whirl on my next post. =D

  • Take your time, Bud! Don't let me or anyone else push you outside of your comfort level.

  • Great job as usual! Another one of my favorites from my days in SE Missouri. How 'bout pairing it with the Missouri National Anthem - Marmaduke's Hornpipe?

  • Your fingers were blazin' on this one! Medium-tempo, fast digits! ... Awesome as usual ...

  • I like this tune much better on a fiddle than on a mando. Great job! Now that I'm back in town, I gots some work to do!

  • Oh come on! Your Durang's Hornpipe is awesome on the mano! Thanks for the comment. =D

  • Oops, I meant mando! :)
