Lol I remember watching this in French class, and then the American version came out a few months later. Its quite a shame, this whole movie took place in the guy's living room, and I'm sure the did something ridiculous with the American version.

I just saw this movie after I watched the american remake and it was hilarious!! I'ts so much better than the american version that I can't even understand how they made such a poor remake compared to this one! Hail European Cinema!

Going from the trailer for the US version, the remake makes a huge mistake. In the original, the idiot is strange but good natured, and the guy who invites him is a complete scumbag. In the US, the guy who does the invite is a put upon nice guy and the other guests are used for comedy. I assume that it fundamentally ruins the morality of the original in which a pretty nasty prank blows-up in the guys face?

this movie is one of my favorite french movies. Le diner de cons literally means the dinner of idiots but the funny part isnt just the humor/jokes made but how everything goes wrong in one night. its hilarious-i could watch this movie over and over.

@emopunkrat actually its very funny, I'd encourage you to check it out. Dinner for Schmucks just demonstrates what's wrong with American movie remakes. There is no room for subtlety, everything is soo garishly overdone, it becomes unfunny. There is slapstick and then there is just plain desperation.
