I don't like Paul McKenna. I remember seeing a show of his where he tried to give the audience the impression that "psychic powers" really exist. Totally unlike Derren Brown for instance, Derren has let everybody know there is no "hocus pocus".

The lighting effect is a product of the background in a glare bleed through effect. A red background creates artifacts on subjects in the foreground from waves due to file compression. Much like a jpg picture has waves that interfere in different areas.

Everyone who is questioning whether this is a fake or not, you have to understand two things: Derrens team have confirmed that he was there, and it is real (its ludicrous to think that someone would fake this - its obviously him) and also, understand that production companies may splice bits to fit with the video, so the audience may be from another part of the day or whatever.

regarding the comments about the cut - I think its definitely two different days/events as there is just no possible way the lighting could have been the same, but its likely that the McKenna people did it themselves as they didn't have two cameras at the main event only cameras in the back, and most audience don't notice those sort of small mistakes. However, it IS Derren young and thats pretty cool. Most likely from the same event, just different room and lights.
