this one need to be amputate, if you have diabetes, there is a poor blood cycle specially at lower part of the body (Legs) with poor blood circulation the wound will not heal and this might lead to infection..
This looks exactly like my Grandmother's decubitus wound. We healed it with a whrilpool bath (the little foot kind). Betadine in the water and a VERY good wound dressing, and some heal raisers to keep it from touching anything. Took a few months. I'm sure he's healed by now though!
Maybe I need to read up more on diabetes, but aren't these types of wounds preventable when you take care to eat right, check your blood sugar, and take the correct dose of insulin? Or is this just inevitable?
The maceration around his wound could've been helped by lining the outside of the wound with a hydrocoloid dressing (exuderm/duoderm) that would protect the skin.
it will take a long looooooong time for that to heal. cause of the poor circulation. a tiny scratch on my foot can take months to heal. did the doctor prescribe any medicine for you to put on the wound / ulcer? I'll keep him in my prayers.
Right now the only thing on the wound is the wound vac, but as far as meds, he's on three antibiotic IV's a day, 200 mg zinc, vit c, and increased protein in his diet. Thanks for your input.
im sorry, my uncle has the same problem, the doctors had to amputate one of his toes now hes going blind its just so heartbreaking...anyways hope your husband has better luck
that actually looks better than what I had imagined it would. Its not going to show alot of progress immediately so dont lose hope. I am sure most people havent seen really really bad wounds, I have treated some that you could stick your fist into.
Thanks! I was looking forward to your comment. I guess that no one can realistically predict the outcome, but it's hard to know what it should look like as it heals. We keep getting different wound vac people, so none of them has a personal baseline to work from.
It sure is not looking to good, but hopefully it will get some improvement soon. Sure hope he doesn't have to lose the foot, but its not looking to good.
Don't lose hope! I thought it was impossible, but as the skin on my foot grew back, I was really amazed! Maybe since I had no expectations... It does take time, and with some more than others! Hopefully, it will stay bacteria free, and his blood can circulate down there! Keep massaging his leg, maybe? It really helps... Especially with any neuropathy that sets in.
O my god the poor guy diabetes will do that I had a friend that lost his legs to diabetes he is not with us anymore but yea he lost his legs to diabetes that is why I watch my sugar intake I feel for you and him. My thoughts are with you both.

You should try medical maggot therapy. It will help it heal faster than anything else mondern medicine can supply. It works.

I've heard of that, but luckily it's now healed without having to have resorted to that - although it took months.

It looks real clean but it is going to take a long time to heal, that is a lot of meat missing.

wow that looks bad but not as bad as I was imagining. I'm sure it will start getting better as long as he stays off it and it stays clean. Good luck!
