You are very correct. Tidus wasn't really a dream, but died from the battle with Sin. I will have to use Auron, Auron died in the battle with Yunalesca. Auron was actually bought back from the fayths to help Tidus defeat Jecht(Sin). So the same thing happened with Auron to Tidus.

Jecht too, was also a dream of the faith. It was established when the faith told Tidus that he, his father, his mother, and all of the people of Zanarkand were simply dreams. Jecht, as you know, somehow mysteriously vanished 10 years before Tidus found his way to Spira--I believe the previous Sin [while being conscious], decided to travel to Zanarkand [the birthplace of Sin, probably thinking that by doing so he would find he answer to stop Yu Yevon].

Theres three things you have to do...

You have to talk with Maechen in Guadosalam in Chapter 3...

When Yuna falls into the field of flowers in chapter 3 because of Ixion.. you have to press X during that cutscene until you hear whistling 4 times..

and after you beat shuyin and your in the farplane press X and you should hear whistling.. and the fayth appears and asks if you want tidus back again.. select yes!

The game is called Final Fantasy, the title pretty much sums it up. He and Auron where chosen by Spira to free him from his never ending dream, witch was Sin destroying the world. His dreams where reality constantly repeating itself witch is why Titus is able to really be alive at the end of this one. If you remember the first game he was taken 1,000 years into the future and later told his home town was destroyed exactly that many years ago.

Well, it was a momentary death; he was gone for 2 whole years. It's unclear as to how Tidus came back; my guess was that the faith granted him an entire lifetime to spend with Yuna and didn't mind dreaming for awhile. Tidus ISN'T just a dream, I believe he was alive from the start, but died in the real battle with Sin, but was brought back by the faiths without having realized it and therefore, was a dream for the time being.
