I've been listening to this for 30 years now. Everytime I show the lyrics to someone they can't believe that John Osbourne wrote this. Needless to say that it is Black Sabbath it is still the most powerful acknowledgement that there is a supreme & divine being of the universe & arguement is pointless. The message is there for all of us. Is God just a thought in your head or is he a part of you? I will not fall in with the pack. So please nobody respond to me I will not divulge an arguement!!!!!

Holy shit, i come here, and the two top comments are about religion...? i respect that but this is a black sabbath vidieo, i came here for the music!
I always thought the early Sabbath´s lyrics are excellent - thoughtful, esoterical, philosophical, occult. But never "evil". You can´t even call them satanistic (satanism is a completely different story). To claim that this band was worshipping evil just shows how narrow-minded people and critics were in the 60´s and early 70´s.
Are you people still arguing if Black Sabbath are christians or not?! Don't you see the crosses everywhere?! Don't you see there love to Jesus and God in there lyrics?! Haven't you heard A national acrobat which talks about Jesus or just frking read the description above! Satan dies at the presence/sight of the Mighty one. You just don't want to confess that God is the greatest thing on earth thus his bands are the greatest on earth for example Rainbow,Sabbath,Malmsteen,Deep Purple.
@georgeion58 nationnal acrobat is about conception possible transmigration of the soul..i dont recall jesus mentioned.and satan is an agent of the gods sent to test man.he never dies in the old testament..in the siight of god..book of job god and satan sat around conspiring to give a devout(already)job boils etc ihvh the jealous and eternal tyrant sort of the muscle end of the divine rackett, crosses are prechristian as is preety much everything
I love Sabbath. They went from pagan to Satanic to Christian. Why? Because they did unbelievable amounts of acid and that's what it does to your sense of reality.
Okay, seriously guys?? Both Christians and Atheists can be prejudiced. Both can be open to other people's beliefs as well. Saying that that ALL Christians or ALL Atheists are closed-minded is is bit closed-minded itself. And saying that you are tolerant, but that the other group isn't is hypocritical. Just my two cents...
Black Sabbath were satanists about as much as Jim Morrison was..... So yea Jim dabbled a bit in the occult shit, as well did Geezer.. But at the end of the day, when Black Sabbath finished a show. They didn't run for pentagrams and goats heads. They went for the Cocaine and Alcohol as well as the women and weed.. Lets not lie to ourselves, they did that satanism/fake devil worshiping shit to sell records, just like Ozzy plays up the "crazyman persona" for the same reason. \m/ suck on that!
Black Sabbaths members were all raised Catholic, and had crosses everywhere during their live shows. Tony still does today... even his fret markers have crosses. It just depends how you were raised and what your family background comes from.
@slash59729 Bullshit. I'm an atheist and I love Christian metal bands. Know why? Because I understand that variety is beautiful in life. Guess who don't think that way? The religious and dogmatic.
@TwilightCodex Why do atheists have there non belief like a badge?...WE don't care that YOU have no belief....stop crying about something you think is not there for God's sake..if you all only knew how stupid you sound
For a song about calling atheists closed-minded, this song is pretty closed-minded.
I do not see any problem with religion, but it is aggravating to me seeing atheists generalizing christians and christians generalizing atheists just on religion. Don't worry about what others believe.
This is one of my favorite metal albums ever, I listen to it all the time, and I always skip over this song.
@xcheesyxbaconx There's no such thing as your truth and religious truth. You will go according to the prior of your beliefs and thoughts. Which one you choose?
@BlackThouqhts: "There's no such thing as truth" is a weighty statement that can be easily challenged. You might say differently if someone does horrible things to you, your family, country, neighborhood, etc. The question can become more complex than this, but this basic form is much simpler to discuss. Then, you will have to wonder where truth came from, and there's one obvious answer and many possible assumptions.
@Stefanos10101 They've never been anti-Christian, if anything their the most Christian band ever for their lyrics talk about Heaven and Hell just like church and what not, and they portray The Devil as something to fear not something to adore, people are quick to judge stuff like this but they dont listen to the lyrics so there Ignorant
@PISSED8 Geezer is a societal critic. If the Church is wrong (and they are) - he criticizes it (which he did). Sabbath weren't anti-Jesus, just anti-Church.
If you listen to Ozzy he continually tells his audience " God bless you" or God loves you" . Also, this isn't the only reference to their beliefs, give Sabbath Bloody Sabbath a listen.

@rsohlich1 I'll pipe in here, Yes I believe it! I went away from Church and eventually that takes you away from God and I finally really and have come back to God and Christ. Nothing wrong with wondering what it's all about. rsohlich1. I loved this album when I was a teen and it was what made me realize that Sabbath were not Bad, they were musicians, And the way they were portrayed sold albums but Heck when you listen to them, they Hate War, fear Satan and Love God
I was talking to my ol lady, and asked her if she liked Black Sabbath. She said: "NO, I dont listen to Satan worship!!" now that Ive been playing alot of Black Sabbath on my stereo, she say's "Hey I like that song! who is that?" and I tell her Black Sabbath, she tells me, "I never knew THAT was them, thats really heavy rock music!!" ( I say ) uh-huh!!
@fernominal uh, there's a whole universe of heavy metal/rock/classic rock that's Christian. And God Bless Black Sabbath for this song..I'm not ashamed or afraid of what my friends might say.
Thanks for the reply! Back when the sabbath bloody sabbath album came out, I was interested in the music, (guitar riffs, and how the music was written cause I play guitar myself) everything blended together in a complicated way, but yet, very simple. I was not obsessed with the meaning of ozzys lyrics, but found it very interesting! Its just a gimmick in my book! (ozzys overall demeaner)
@clintpiercejr Because they know it's true. It's not about "being christian," they aren't christian's, but still no that its true. It's not relative, it's universal truth.
7 people are so goddamn wrong that it doesn't even matter. HA HA HA HA. I LuV Black Sabbath, and you don't even matter!!! - Tim eto drink your weak lemon drink!!!! T666.
I have been listening to Ozzy and Alice since 1970, I enjoy the sport of messing with people's minds when they called it devil music and anyone who listened to the music were satanic. I like those people bitch about music, makes it all the more fun to play it. It's a great hobby.
@dinizthemxking He Personaly say in his book He's an Atheist, and jsut belives in Natrue. He says god bless you probly becuse it's a fource of habbit and alot of people still belive in god, so it's just a sign of good will. Don't get me wroung, I have nothing aginst you if your chritsen, I'm just stating a fact. :)
The words to nearly all Black Sabbath songs, including this one, were written by the Bass player Geezer Butler who is a practising Christian. Ozzy wrote very few of the lyrics.
All Black Sabbath songs are Christian. This one is about how great God is. War Pigs exposes all the globalists who use war and propaganda to kill and brainwash us common folk. Sweet Leaf is about the greatest gift God has given man besides life. Children of the grave is about the people finally revolting against the globalist banking war pigs. Into the void is about how they are poisoning our planet. Black Sabbath is the Best.
@MustaffaProjeck Ozzy sings about the evil committed by the government and men that is innocently and indirectly caused and provoked by women, thus that makes nature and men the guilty parties.
i acn't believe this argument... this is ONLY music!

McSassin89 4 months ago
@McSassin89 It does sound a bit humorous, but it also sounds like a christian's struggle to express his faith. Geezer was Catholic.

I was talking to my ol lady, and asked her if she liked Black Sabbath. She said: "NO, I dont listen to Satan worship!!" now that Ive been playing alot of Black Sabbath on my stereo, she say's "Hey I like that song! who is that?" and I tell her Black Sabbath, she tells me, "I never knew THAT was them, thats really heavy rock music!!" ( I say ) uh-huh!!
fernominal 4 months ago
@fernominal uh, there's a whole universe of heavy metal/rock/classic rock that's Christian. And God Bless Black Sabbath for this song..I'm not ashamed or afraid of what my friends might say.

@smn3675
(ozzys overall demeaner)
fernominal 4 months ago
@smn3675 To me any religiousness is just a mistake, but when you question it, even stepping back later on, is a remarkable thing to do.

WHY did they have to write these lyrics?!? It's cool if you're christian but I hate when people preach it in songs, especially rock or heavy metal
clintpiercejr 4 months ago
@clintpiercejr Because they know it's true. It's not about "being christian," they aren't christian's, but still no that its true. It's not relative, it's universal truth.

@clintpiercejr Like I said, it's intended to be ironic. They arent satanists but they also arent really huge fans of christianity

I have been listening to Ozzy and Alice since 1970, I enjoy the sport of messing with people's minds when they called it devil music and anyone who listened to the music were satanic. I like those people bitch about music, makes it all the more fun to play it. It's a great hobby.

@toogawnjawn - As Simon Quinlank would say 'time to drink your weak lemon drink!'

@StonerMetalWarrior
The words to nearly all Black Sabbath songs, including this one, were written by the Bass player Geezer Butler who is a practising Christian. Ozzy wrote very few of the lyrics.

IF THEY KNEW you believed in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
that God is the only way to love

All Black Sabbath songs are Christian. This one is about how great God is. War Pigs exposes all the globalists who use war and propaganda to kill and brainwash us common folk. Sweet Leaf is about the greatest gift God has given man besides life. Children of the grave is about the people finally revolting against the globalist banking war pigs. Into the void is about how they are poisoning our planet. Black Sabbath is the Best.

@MustaffaProjeck Ozzy sings about the evil committed by the government and men that is innocently and indirectly caused and provoked by women, thus that makes nature and men the guilty parties.
domram12 5 months ago
@domram12 Sounds like someone has an issue with women.

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down now you can't retrieve.
7 people fit this description very well. :)

@ImNotCrazy213 Yea i didn't mean it in a bad way but i don't believe in God it's still a classic song though.

btw, Isn't funny that a band that is considered "satanist" by some people, singing a christian song, a song for God? =)

@dinizthemxking That's just because some people are just too stubborn and resistant to really look into things. Like my mom :/
