The only Tarantion film I've seen that I really didn't like was Deathproof. He just goes SO overboard w/ the chicks doing the usual Tarantino pop culture talk thing that just goes on and on...and on...and on that it made me sick eventually. By the time the interesting stuff happens later I just didn't give a shit any more.
Gotta disagree on this one. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but as a piece of entertainment. Nowhere in its run time does it even begin to qualify as a masterpiece. The dialogue, while incredibly entertaining, has no depth, and mostly has nothing to do with the plot. The script is nothing more than a much sharper and infinitely better executed version of the kind of lazy writing present in Family Guy. *hides in bomb shelter*
despite thinking the requested reviews are pretty overpriced, that was a good review which i enjoyed, and now im definatly going to be buying Pulp Fiction so as i can watch it (cant belive ive been missing out on this awesome movie all these years)
No no, it IS a rip-off, any of us could do a movie review as long as we have a mic and WMM. He asks $25 to be donated to him as for whatever reason he dosen't see this as a "pay-for-service" thing even though thats what it is.
I tend to turn my brain off near the end of films as the falling action and denouement are usually bad. But this film kept me GLUED to the screen to the credits.
The last scene of this movie was deeply satisfying. Jackson's performance in the restaurant was powerful.
And who doesnt remember the final shot of Vincent & Julius sticking their guns in their shorts, leaving the restaurant in their rediculous clothes? It closed the movie perfectly.
my ONLY quibble with PF is the adrenaline shot. though the box said 'cardiac', this method is rarely if ever done. epinephrine is a local vascular constrictor. can't tell you how many times i've had a date ask me, "so if i had to use this on you, i should just stab it into you pulp fiction style?" NO. stab outside thigh 90 degree angle. might sound overly sensitive, but it bothered me that this movie misinformed some on a serious medical situation.
I actually stopped for a moment and thought "Do I really want to watch him tear apart one of my 2 favorite movies of all time?" I said screw it and watched the review and to my surprise we actually agree 100% on this film.
I've probably seen it 75+ times and I'm sure I'll watch it many more times in the coming years.
At a certain point in the review you say: 'I didn't like any of Tarantino's films except this one' When you say that you see a picture of reservoir dogs.
Did you liked reservoir dogs or were you still talking about Pulp Fiction?
@confusedmatthew one thing you either failed to mention or glossed over...the samurai sword.... Ok.. dude... what do samurai's hold above all else... would it be honor... bruce willis could have left but he just couldnt leave a guy to be raped like that... sure sure you wanna say he did it to save his own but But Id say it was the honorable thing to do... what weapon did he choose again? just sayin
This is by far my favorite of all your reviews. It seems like we agree on pretty much everything about the movie, including the gripe about "the case" and Julius being the character I dig the most. I love it whenever Tarantino throws in a shout-out to his (and my) hometown, Knoxville, TN, as he does here in one scene with Bruce Willis in a phone booth.
If I can one day get to a point where I can write character dialogue close to the way Tarantino does, I'll be very happy.
I never liked that scene when they stab the syringe into Uma Thurman. Not because of queasiness, but because hollywood seems to repeatedly put out the mistaken concept that a direct shot of adrenaline into the heart is good...or even healthy!
On the contrary, it can be highly fatal to POKE A HOLE INTO THE HEART.
"Is that a big bruise on your chest or did you fall down the stairs again?"
Well, excuse me, doctor. I wasn't talking to the med students. Believe it or not, there are fools out there who believe everything they see on the tellyvision
I always thought it was money in the case because when the bald black guy has Butch in front of him near the start he waves money in his face which has a gold glow!
the thing he said about vince always asking to be told please by someone I always do that too lol more as a joke but its funny to see people get annoyed at you for saying please (this comment is in no way targeted at this review which I thought was brilliant and I also love pulp fiction)
Ah.. but What's in the case simply isn't important to us. It's only important to the characters in the movie. What matters to us is that it matters -very much- to them.
If Tarantino named the contents of the case he would only risk having the audience question the character's attachment to it.
As it is, we get to imagine that it's something so stupendous to us that if we ourselves were confronted with it, we too would risk our lives to obtain it.
Tarantino was like Kevin Smith and M. Night. One trick pony.
And really, I hate the influence that he has had. Sigh. It's like bullet time, so over used.
And he proved how horrible a director he was with Death Proof. Possibly the most boring film ever made. Or maybe the most elaborate snuff foot fetish film. Hmm, if that is the case - I doth my cap to him as he has trumped me in elaborate mastubatory fantasy.
Great review. I remember being fourteen and watching this movie non-stop, and I didn't even have the first segment on my copy, and when I finally saw that missing part it was like seeing a sequel for me.
I have to disagree about the case thing. That's now one of my favourite elements of the film ever since I only recently "found out" what's in the case. It added a whole new dimension to a part that I thought was a bit plain at first.
I think everyone is going to react the the "whats in the case" thing differently; that's probably why he put it in there in the first place.
I know a lot of people liked it a great deal, it just wasn't my thing. But fortunately that's only my problem and not a problem with the film its self.
At least it was left vague enough to be left up to the viewer and you don't need to know anything more than it's something very precious that Marcellus Wallace wants.
I agree. I think it's because he's so famous and well-known now, he no longer has that drive he must have had when he was an unknown filmmaker making Pulp Fiction, hence his rediculously long hiatus after completing it.
He just keeps trying to recreate what he did in pulp fiction...that's the problem with everything else Tarantino has done. I think ResDogs had some good moments, but the movie over all was just an incoherent mess and don't favor it like most of the fans do.
I dont know how smart offering all these reviews to everyone is...might want to make them either private or only a viable to people who paid for a different movie review...pretty soon you are going to be out of movies
This was awesome. I was tempted to send you $25 to do a movie... now i KNOW i am going to! I have a few bills to pay and if i have the extra cash you can be expecting a request from me... now the question is.... review a good movie... a bad movie... or a movie i love that i am afraid you are gonna rip to shreds lol

In this review you say "Never judge a film until after you've seen it".
That's good.
But in your review of "saw" you say that you're not going to watch hostel because it's a sick movie etc.
Then you judge a film BEFORE watching it! -.-

I agree. It doesn't really even have a plot. it's just a sequence of events. 80% of the dialogue has no relevance to the plot at all.

Technically no one is "paying for reviews". All I'm asking for here is a kind donation; the requestes are done simply as a token of gratitude.
The truth is, I am already in danger of running out of movies to review; there are only so many that I ever intended to reveiw in the first place.
The requests might actually extend my reviewing years even further.
