I think if your from up this neck of the woods (NE of Scotland) it all makes perfect sense.....wonderful music.....if only all music was this heartfelt
I agree BarbaricGoose. I have madly loved Ian Benzie since I first heard Old Blind Dogs. I have often wondered what he is doing now, probably teaching! But at least we can still enjoy his voice! Oh for the record I am a female royceroscoe!
He WAS difficult to understand, but it's because his Scottish burr is so Scottish! I still love their music, but they haven't been quite the same since Ian Benzie left. His lyrical style was what caught my attention in the first place.
It's too bad they didn't stay together. I think they complemented each others talents.
As for the lyrics, I was glad that the liner notes for their CD's included lyrics. Even so, I went to the library to find books to translate some of the old Scottish terms and words.
@09findhorn IKR! they was a really great and talented group. I love everyone of their singles! battle of waterloo, johnny O'braidislee, macpherson's Rant, young edward (therefore was first I got knew from them) Jean O'Bethelnie, Gaelic song (my special favo One) I still then their broke-up I still their music, so catchy and Imma not Scot, I'm English and I'm p´roud to be, But their Music is somin' out from this world.. More than Outstanding I'll say AMAZING!
He wisnae haird tae understaind a' a. Ye jist maun ken tae spake Scots.

Ian is my alltime fav voice. But this song seems/feels a bit on the fast side. I've heard it before, and not this fast.

True. I still like some of their newer material, but I'd like them a whole lot more if Ian was still with 'em.
As for the lyrics, I'm just glad I didn't have to write them down, as I normally have to for the most of the folk songs I upload.
