This song made me sure that Turks and Greeks are no less than brothers and sisters. We've shared centuries of happiness, sometimes agony and sorrow. But all sorrow, happiness, all of our smiles and tears was ours; not others. No matter the governments think, but we are united. In these tough times, with all my heart I support Greek people.
What a beautiful rendition of the most beautiful & seductive belly dance !! I have never heard RENA DALLIA before, judging from her hair style & clothes, this could be a very old recording, but it is JUST SUPERB!! I have always assumed that most of the non Greek words were Arabic, perhaps with a few turkish words thrown in. It is just so beautifull y sung, she FEELS the lyrics, I LOVE IT !!!!!
I never heard this BEAUTIFUL version before by Rena only a different one she did on Columbia records - both are VERY Beautiful!!! Thankyou I love it ! Υγεία και Χαρά Σας!
With suburb of Rethymnon (Turkey) are you reffering to Misiria a suburb of Rethymno in Crete?
The word Miseri that is used in the song more likely refers to Egypt (Masr in Arabic) called Misiri in Greek slang of the time. Just like Misirlou means woman from Egypt.
The word Misiri was used in Crete to denote fertile land (like that of Egypt) so that's where the name of the suburb derives from
Thank You so much. But I don"t know to read Greek and shoud like it to sing this song myself. Is it possible to write also the Grreek words in our alphabet? Or is there maybe a Turkish words version? I baught this song about 20 years ago in Turkey on a CD and there the words also fail on paper.
fuck politics turk and greeks all always brothers and sisters

A magical night I saw her in Misiri
She was an exoti beauty, Gioulmpahar the sweet
Giarampim to giahampi, giarampim to giahabah
Oh my flower,Gioulmpahar
Arabs' whim, slowly-slowly (it's not for you, turkish words--> hava, yavaş yavaş)
You had told me with kisses, as I was holding you in my arms
A slave to her sweet kiss, I am to her passion attached to (Turkish word-->sevda)
I cry, I long and I'm in pain, I don't forget Gioulmpahar
