oh yeah and i noticed what you said about the pulling power it can actually pull 10,000 pounds with a class 3 hitch... from experiance mine pulled a semi truck out of 8 inchs of snow with no problem.
Pcmr57,I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty and seriously, I think your high! Your dicription of gas mileage must be for a first generation hummer.... cuz the jeep i, only has to be filled every TWO weeks... how that for gas mileage!
PCMR57 Are you drunk? Check out this on Wikipedia and confidently tell me the Honda CRV has "over 180 HP". Last I checked it started out with 120 HP in 97' to the current 166 HP in 10'. This is only Wikipedia, I can pull a dyno pull on the stock CRV vs. the Liberty both 4cy and 6cy if you want. Shit son:
@blinklvr5 PCMR57, look up CRV on Wikipedia and you will see how foolish you looked. So foolish that I will make you look it up instead of giving the site. :)
i think it do 14 mpg in city is it a gaz guggler ??? for a student... and also is great for snow.. and how can i have more power from the v6 ? swap or modS ? custom turbo ?? is it good ? also... what does have the renegade ? and... is it better auto or manual... thanks !!
Yeah but the Patriot only comes with a 2.0 or 2.4 4 cyl. and they only produce about160-175 HP whereas the Liberty has a V6 which produces about 210 HP. Yeah, the fuel economy is lower but I'll take a few less miles per gallon for an extra 35-50 HP. Hell, my Trooper gets about 8 MPG (and that's if I talk nice to it) and my Grand Cherokee only gets about 12 MPG, so 16 would be an improvement.
You can't really call the CRV's 4 cylinder wimpy. It has over 180 hp. That's a lot more than V6 engines from not very long ago would put out. The CRV is not meant for off-road like the Liberty is. The 0-60 for the 4 cyl Honda and V6 Jeep is almost the same. The Honda a bit quicker.
For 99% of most driver's actual needs the CRV is perfect. Most people don't actually drive off road.
I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7 engine and it's a complete gas guzzler. I'm lucky to get 22 mpg (metric) 18 mph (imperial) on the highway. City mileage is much worse. Nice truck and great grip but an unbelievable gas hog.
The guy who tried to say his Liberty gets the same gas mileage as a Toyota Camry must be on crack.
I've got an 02 Liberty Renegade with almost 113k miles on it, and have had no problems with it beyond having to turn the rotors. They are extremely easy to maneuver and I'm getting about 21 mpg average in mine, but it is a 5-speed manual. I love it, and it looks cool besides!
I got a liberty sport 03 and i checked with my das camry and the consumption of fuel for both is same. And Jeep is truly a fun car with lots of power and maneuverable.
I have a 2002 Liberty Sport. The 3.7 engine is very reliable. However, you might wanna get an extended cooling package( An engine driven cooling fan) rather than the electrical one ,which has failed once and caused the only overheating problem in Summer. Also, the radiater is plastic, and the drain plug grooves can be damaged during a radiator flush ,if a mechanic uses a power tools to unscrew or screw it,which they have a tendency of doing out of laziness.
Our '02 Sport Liberty was a great truck. After over 211,000 miles, it ran like it would never stop. We had to fix it a few times, relatively minor stuff, but a scary accident involving a semi killed our little Jeep. Withe the insurance money, my wife is now shopping for another Liberty! We love them.
Get the Jeep, I have an 03 Sport. It does eat the gas, but it is a great vehicle. Does wonderful in the snow, off road, on road. It does not matter, this rig will take you anywhere, and do anything you need. GET ONE

you think 22mpg is a gas guzzler? i dont think we own a vehicle that gets more then 20... my mustang did when it was stock...
cryptostorm 2 years ago
22 mpg Metric. Less than 20 US. That is a complete hog especially when CRV's and Ford Escapes get MUCH better mileage.
The Jeep's city mileage is atrocious.
pcmr57 2 years ago
But the CR-V and Rav4 aren't meant for anything but pavement. The Liberty is meant for both on and off-road and does well in both terrains.
GoinCreekin 2 years ago
True enough. But Jeep's own Patriot gets way better mileage.
Granted the Liberty will tow 5000lbs. That's a huge amount of weight compared to CR-V and RAV-4.

@pcmr57 yea but jeeps are way more fun to drive and plus they have 4x4

@pcmr57 escapes and crvs are about half the size of the liberty, thats like comparing and F-250s mileage to a Ranger
hobybobag3 2 years ago
CRV's are NOT half the size of a Liberty. You are very misinformed my friend.
Liberty Length - 176.90
CRV Length - 177.90
Liberty Width - 72.40
CRV width - 71.60
For all intents and purposes they are almost identical in size!
pcmr57 2 years ago
@pcmr57 eh, the jeep has a v6, and the CR-V has a rather wimpy I4 and you cant really go off roading in a CR-V

eh, my point was their not really in the same class, so you cant reall put them side by side, their the same size but intended for different purposes
