  • It's impossible to hear any difference form a video.

  • @guitar1050 there is slight difference..the CG111C sound is more prolong compared to the C40.

  • Bro, you can consider buying second classical guitar. It is cheaper, but may have some scratches. But I don't know if it is easy to buy second hand guitar in Malaysia.

  • Yes it easy to buy in Malaysia. In fact I sold a number of second hand guitars. thanks for the feedback Andi! :)

  • Hi,

the Yamaha cg 111c is now discontinued, what other Yamaha do you think replaces it? Yamaha cg 142c,or any other?

  • HI @sicopr2003 , yes it is discontinued or should I say renamed to CG142C. The features are still the same:

    Top: Solid American Cedar

    Back & Sides: Nato

    Neck: Nato

    Fingerboard: Rosewood

    Bridge: Rosewood

    Strings length: 650mm (25.6")

    Tuning Machine: Chrome (YTM 04)

    Finish: Gloss

  • I was wondering if I should spend over my (rather low) budget to get a more expensive Yamaha even though I'm only just starting out in classical guitar. But you have just proven to me that its really not the guitar but the person who plays it who can make the music sound good. I suppose I shall settle for the cheapest, the C40 then...

  • Too bad I'm broke... I'll get the c40 lol

  • hahaha..I can relate to that when I bought my c40, I was broke too.. in time u will get a better guitar, trust me!

  • @mazlanhalim lol yeah. Hope so. I just lost my job @_@

If we win the battle of the bands I will get a better guitar lol

  • I'm sorry to hear that, but I believe u will get a much better job soon. Good luck with the battle of the bands! Godspeed..

  • @mazlanhalim lol I'm still in high school :)

  • i really want to have yamaha c 40.

  • u must get it then..it's suitable for beginners.

  • @mazlanhalim can a belt or strap be attached to c40.. plz rply..

  • I would not recommend it since a classical guitar is not played with a strap... but yes u can. U need to get a strap pin to be fixed at the bottom end of the guitar.

  • Have you played the C-80 ?, i have one and i love it

  • No i havent..it should be better than C40. Keep playing! :)

  • im startin to play guitar soon and im gettin yamaha c40, i hope its a good for a beginner! :)

  • Yes, it is a good guitar for a beginner. Later on, once you have reached a certain level of playing..you will want to try other yamaha guitars..then you will know the sound difference!

I wish u all the best . Never give up!

  • @mazlanhalim thanks! :) i have it now and tried to play with it so hard ... its difficult but at least i've learned something xD

  • Reduce the height of the saddle so the strings would be lowered to the fretboard. Easier to press the strings.

  • @mazlanhalim oh okay, thanks for tip =)

  • I have two Yamaha classical guitars, one is CS40 and another one is C40. They're really great! Though they're old enough, but I still can play.

  • yes they great..It will sound better through the years..keep on playing!

  • i have a C45 but some times it buzz on the high E string

  • The buzz could be because the high E string hits the fret. I suggest u check the height of the saddle or the nut, it could be too low.

  • Oh really...i have never seen a black c40! :)

  • whats the best classical to get around $1,000

  • For that budget..I would recommend getting the Yamaha CG210S guitar (around USD$700). It has a Spruce top and suitable for flamenco playing as well. I have done a video review on this guitar.

There's another brand, Cuenca, spanish made..in my opinion is much better than Yamaha..but only sells in Canada nearest to you. There's a video review on this as well. Cuenca 40R. Thanks for asking!

  • @mazlanhalim Thanks man, really appreciate the help

  • No problem...let me know when u get your guitar! Good luck!

  • @dlggnation A little word of warning here.Do you want a lovely guitar or to spend a grand. The cost of instruments is very often misleading. You may pay an extra $500 just for a name on a headstock.

A grand will buy you a nice instrument.I'd suggest looking for an older guitar or paying a luthier to make one for you to your own specification.I've seen handmade guitars that cost only a few hundred pounds (approx $500) new blow far more expensive guitars away.Money doesn't always equal quality.

  • just started taking lessons, guess what, my first guitar is a C40 :)

  • Good that you are taking lessons..C40 is suitable for students to learn classical guitar. It will sound better through the years as it has a spruce top which will take time to mature. Keep practicing!

  • the c40 is my first guitar too. (:

  • @AmIrThEcOoL ME TO MAN TATS SOOOO COOL I GOT IT WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 AT A POND SHOP

  • c40 is good guitar..it will sound better through the years of playing..mine is already 10 years..

  • Name of the song is ''ROMANCE ANONIMO DEL SIGLO XVIII''.Its a spanish song.

  • Great spanish song..

  • romanza!

  • Romanza Bonanza!

  • Great demo. Thanks for posting this. I just picked up a second hand C-40 and now I know what to expect.

  • Thanks for the comment. Hope to see you play the guitar in Youtube!

    :)

  • How's the C40 now? Use a good string will improve the sound..D'addario EXP series..

  • You are all correct! This song has many names "Romance anonimo, Anonymous romance, Jeux Interdits from the film (Forbidden Games), Spanish romance, Romance de España, Romance of the Guitar, Romanza and Romance d'Amour and Estudio en Mi de Rubira (Study in E by Rubira). Since the original composer is uncertain, we could never be sure what is the real name for it. Anyhow, it's a timeless piece...you will never get bored of it.

  • The song is called "Jeux interdits" ...

  • The song is "Jeux interdit" noobs -_-

  • Yes..very true..that's how i started out..

  • Honestly, I can't tell the difference just by listening to this video. I bought the C80 though.

  • Cg111s is much richer.

  • I guess u meant Cg111c (cedar) and not spruce....

yes..it's has a much richer tone..

  • dear friend, what's the song played on the guitar?

  • it's called "Romance anónimo"

seach it like that here in youtube (without the accent)

  • @licjoelr its "Jeux interdit"

  • Thanks..

The difference between the two are:

The top wood and the sound difference.

CG111C has cedar top wood and CG111S has spruce top wood.

I think you get slightly crisper highs and a bit more power from spruce, and a little more mellow sound from a cedar top guitar.

But I havent seen a CG111S before, maybe u can search for CG171S which has ebony fretboard.

I personally love the sound of the cedar, more feeling to it. Try both u will hear the difference.

  • thanks so much

  • Very useful the informations, thx to u...;)

    I have an another question..

Can you or anyone tell me the different between Yamaha CG111c and Yamaha CG111s..

I want buy one of them

Which is better or which would you suggest ?

  • I think he played tres pinos...

  • What's tres pinos? a song?

  • i like the wall in the background

  • Thanks..I like the wall too..it was taken at my brother's apartment, he's an Interior Designer.. ;)

  • I have CGX 31C made in Japan well from you video I could not see much difference

  • There's a slight difference, I was using a very good string for the C40, it almost sound as good as the CG111C.

I bet your guitar sounds much2 better than these two.

  • well..CG111C is much2 better than C40 because different type of wood used. CG111C using Rosewood and C40 is using Nato. C40 will sound better if using a more expensive string set like the Addario EJ45LP.

  • hello i have a CG111C yamaha classical acoustic but im guessing the C40 is better rightÉ

  • what's the name of the song you played on the c40?

  • Romance Anonimo or Spanish Romance. I've been playing songs this since yr 2000 but I never get bored of it.

  • Your welcome mazlanhalim, I want to point out that anyone can hear the difference between the 2 guitars in this video through high quality headphones (i have sony's mdr-sa1000) but it is much less evident on speakers of lesser quality.

  • yes triwillie5...u said it right about the cg111c..

as for c40, it is perfect for beginners...

    thx for your comments!

  • I have to say that I think the c40 is a good guitar for the money and it is a good first guitar because it has all the elements of a decent guitar but the sound is just not in the same league as the cg111c.

  • The cg111c is more resonant louder and the tone is sweet and beautiful instead of thin and uninteresting like the c40s.

  • me too...LOL!

actually the sound for the second guitar is louder..

  • I don't hear the difference for some reason...

  • Comment removed

  • yes, burn everything more than 10 years old!

  • Thanks for your sincere comments! Yes, when I first strum the CG111C, I knew I had to buy the guitar. The resonance is beautiful and more powerful than the C40. I would strongly get the best string which is EJ45LP!

  • sorry about my shitty comment, my sister posted it.

    nice guitars

  • it's fine, your sister may prefer electric guitars than acoustic/classical.

What she says is true, some really good electric guitarists learn classical when they are older.

  • thanks, i do prefer electric guitar too. i mostly play electric, because it plays better to me

  • I have been playing electric-blues for 2 years, and I am going to learn classical guitar because I need to work on my theory, which is when classical guitar is at its best (plus the songs sound beautiful when played properly), so there is truth in that.

  • That's cool u played electric blues...yes classical guitar will improve your theory n sight reading, etc...All the best!

  • you too....keep playing btw, you seem preety good

  • awesome video, the CG111 has beatiful resonance compared with the c40 that I have.

An advise please, Now I have the original strings that comes with the c40.

I think those strings sucks, so I need to change it, to get the more of my guitar.

what brand of string do you recommend?

    Thanks

  • Yea I put low polish strings on it, most likely not a repeat. Love this video though. Because you played the same piece on both. So is only the instrument that accounts for any idfference. I see the Yamaha CG111C for $229. Might just swap those two out. Do you ever find yourself going back to the c40 after getting the other one. I know with the jasmine i go back and forth but they are very different.

  • Yes I do going back to the C40, I'm so used to it. Used it for 6 years already. Eventhough the sound is not as clear/beautiful as the CG111C, but it's like your first love. Can't forget...

  • Yea I find this vdeo very interesting...I have the C40. It was second guitar...first of the set I have now. I learned to play at 12 but gave it up because I was never going to be a star or even make a living from it. Well, I still like to play. I find the c40 hard to control. I put new strings on it which solved an itenuation problem. My old stings where 6 years old. I got a jasimine by takamine for steel sound. But the neck is so much smaller hard to get used to.

  • Thanks for your comments. You r very lucky to start at a young age. I started when I was 22 years old. Quite late.

yeah, I thought the same about becoming a star or making a living from it. haha..

  • Yea I was in Junior high 7th and 8th grade and they offered guitar classes in the music department as a option. So I took them for two years. I had always wanted to play since I had heard my father bang on a accuestic at family parties for hours without a glue what he was doing. But would he let me bang on it no. So I wanted to someday learn to play. Well, I did that. Now I am back into it after 30 years and I want to play and play well. My tastes are sharper now.

  • If u have the budget, get a classical guitar with cedar solid top and ebony fretboard (black). Really appreciate your feedback!

  • hey thanks for the video i really wanted to know the difference of sound between these two guitars! now i know for sure which one i'll buy
