You know, the wheel your using, it's from the early 70's,, i recognize the sound as you change up and down the speeds. I also recognize that chuddering which tells you that the clay really is in centre - There's a sort of beauty in those old wheels that give alot of help in the throwing process. To hell with 'Shimpo' and their super-quiet wheels
I love your videos, they're so helpful! Just a quick question... Is the metal tool that your use to bevel the base handmade, or did you buy it? It looks very helpful; far better than the wooden rib tools my class uses.
This is the perfect ex. for making piggy banks, which I want to do for this Christmas for nieces, nephews, & 1st g-niece. I'd have to make calls to get the # of boys/girls since we rarely visit w/busy lives & my not driving but the salt pig is just a short step from a piggy bank. I'd have to make about 18 to cover them all but it'd be great repetition work. I'd want the girls' in pink & boys' in blue. I need to run clay in pugger; it's too hard to wedge by hand w/my joints but it'd be gr8 gifts.
How long have you been doing this? Do you recommend, when starting out, to use a faster wheel speed like you do? I have a *knack* for it and want to learn the right way. Thanks!
The clay you use is so nice - are the specks from manganese? Also your ability to throw such an even, vertical cylinder is a pleasure to watch. Thanks!
I decided to give this pot a try after I watched this video so I made one last night. fun project. I need to find a better hole cutter tho.. Thanks for the inspiration
I have used to collar from the bottom alot. Works great, I have seen some other potters do it also. Leaving the ware on the bat and trimming the next day is a huge help. Regards Shawn

You make the clay look so cooperative! I tried making a pot on the wheel and its waaay harder than it looks.

How many pounds did you use anyway. Looks like only about 5-6 pounds of clay but I could be mistaken.

It's up to you, the larger the pot the slower the speed generally.
You've just got to find what suits you best.
