I wish my former cat did this. His nails were always caked with disgusting kitty litter. I would scrape it off for him, although he didn't like it and would always pull his paw away.

All cats bite their claws like that. They're removing something called "scale" from the claw. It's a scaly covering that grows next to and up against the claw. It irritates the tissue where the claw goes back into the end of the toe. After they remove the scale, there's no more irritation under the skin, the claw moves smoothly in and out of the toe.

yeah my cat does that... my vet told me when she does that that she doesnt like that her nails are that long so i need to either file them if you dont trust cutting them.. or cut them or get a professional to cut them every other week or something...
